What are the objectives?

to stimulate learning, critical and non-

schematic thinking

to develop English language skills for

academic purposes

to increase education and job mobility

to empower students with tools enhancing

learning

to apply the acquired language skills in real

life situations

to develop social and civic competences

to build self-confidence and the belief that through

work anything could be achieved

Method Short-term CLIL model has been adopted, where Science, Geography, History and Social Science themes are selected to be studied for a specific period of time. Problem Based Learning (PBL) method has been chosen to enhance active and co-operative learning. Each class starts with a problem. Project Based Learning (PBL): the problem forms the basis for organized focus and stimulus for learning which occurs in small groups/teams where each student takes the responsibility for the whole group/team. 5E: Students learn through experimenting, hypothesising, forming questions, searching for answers.

Content is enhanced throughout each lesson, while fostering the development of communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, collaboration, and self-directed learning skills. Apart from focus on content, focus on language forms has been given due attention. Students will use discovery techniques to understand how language is formed and how it is used in real life contexts. The programme for high school students gives special prominence to developing academic skills such as planning, generating ideas, organising, ranking ideas according to importance, referencing, avoiding plagiarism, academic writing, note taking etc. The teacher's role is to monitor and facilitate learning. It is not expected of them to take a role of the knower. Their role is to trigger interest in the subjects selected for the programme, help formulate questions, stimulate critical thinking and help students achieve the command of language enabling them to study in English in the future. Special interest classes, workshops, university lectures, study visits and laboratories are carefully integrated into classroom work.
