FROM OUR PRESIDENT & CEOThis year has been a tremendous year of growth and accomplishment for YPR. YPR’s vision of a world where everyone can access the necessary tools to achieve recovery has reached new heights. In 2019, we served 44,294 people at 2,510 events nationwide! This past decade has brought YPR to the forefront of changing national policy; we have mobilized communities across the U.S. to become recovery-ready; and brought recovery support services and life skills to people of all ages and backgrounds.

YPR continues to expand our reach with invaluable services and events. We provide the space and support for young people to follow their own paths and passions. We continue to strive to allow access to recovery support services to all people, so they can reach their full potential, find health and wellness, and thrive in recovery. We have brought big change and this coming year will also be a year of big changes…

We would like to express our deep gratitude and sincere well wishes to Justin Luke Riley, our former CEO and President, as he transitions to become chairman of the board. Justin’s leadership and legacy will continue through his new position. I am delighted to return to the YPR family and excited for what this next decade will bring for organization. Ten years ago, I was a young person in recovery on the advisory committee that formed Young People in Recovery. I could have never foreseen being asked to step into this role, and “come home” to this amazing organization.

Thank you to our members, chapters, staff, and board for 10 years of groundbreaking work. It is an honor and privilege to start this next decade surrounded by incredible leaders dedicated to our mission.

Sincerely,

Danielle TarinoCEO & President

IMPACT: CHAPTERS

Chapters are the foundation of YPR’s mission. They serve as vehicles for community organizing, coalition-building and direct community service in the form of workshops, all-recovery meetings, social events, and advocacy initiatives.

YPR’s focus on grassroots leadership development was pivotal in almost doubling the number of people served by chapters in 2019. The Chapter Coordinator Squad was redeveloped in 2019, growing from one full-time employee, to two full-time employees and two part-time employees, which has allowed the number of chapters to grow from 36 to 49 with 10 more planned or in training to launch in early 2020.

Chapters served 44,294 individuals at 2,510 unique events across the country in 2019. Additionally, Chapters began collecting demographic data on participants and registered over 80 new chapter leadership team members, each committing to spend at least 5 hours per week focused on community organizing with the chapter.

2,510Unique events held by chapters including all-recovery meetings, workshops, town halls, community forums and more.

IMPACT: PROGRAMS

2019 was a year of exponential growth for YPR programs. Overall, 304 participants completed our EPIC and Phoenix programs, and participated in our data collection efforts across five states: Colorado, Kentucky, California, Ohio, and Texas. Across the domains that YPR programs assess (leadership, recovery dedication, employment, housing, financial literacy, legal rights, and education, healthy relationships, and holistic health), we witnessed an average growth of over 33% from program intake to program exit. YPR is excited to expand its programs into Indiana, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Tennessee in 2020 through new contracts that will launch at least 3 additional EPIC programs and 2 additional Phoenix programs.

2019 was the second year that YPR began to collect and report program follow-up data. YPR assesses participants at 3, 6, and 12 months after program completion. We are particularly proud that at the first follow-up, 70% of respondents were in the labor force or back in school, compared to just 26% upon program intake. YPR looks forward to collecting additional follow-up data in 2020 to further assess the effectiveness of our programs and to continue to improve our services
