The young originals exhibition celebrates the creative and innovative arts programs taught in Western Australian public schools and delivered by many talented, enthusiastic and inspirational teachers. The range of work entered into and selected for young originals 2014 is testament to the variety of visual arts and design experiences in which students are engaged. This year entries spanned Years 8-12 and more than 150 entries were submitted by students from over 50 schools. As always the standard was very high and the judges had their work set out for them choosing the 64 entries that are in this exhibition.

The Western Australian Secondary School Executives Association is proud to continue their association with the young originals exhibition. We have sponsored this prestigious event since 2010 and over that time public secondary school students from across Western Australia have had the opportunity to exhibit their work in a public gallery space and experience first-hand the excitement of being part of a professional exhibition. In 2011, a partnership with Edith Cowan School of Communications and Arts, gave the exhibition a home in the Spectrum Project Space and this has certainly enhanced both its prestige and accessibility. young originals is also supported by the Department of Education, Statewide Services.

Thank you to all students and teachers who entered artwork this year and continued the tradition of excellence that we have come to expect of the young originals exhibition. The quantity and quality of the entries submitted is a tribute to the talent and hard work of both students and teachers. My congratulations to the artists who have been chosen to exhibit this in 2014 and I am pleased to join your families, teachers and principals to celebrate your achievement.
