“Hidden under the ashes of apparent death, the fire of our national life is yet smouldering and ... the life of this nation is religion, its language- religion, and its idea- religion; and your politics, society, municipality, plague-prevention work, and famine-relief work - all these things will be done as they have been done all along here, viz. only through religion; otherwise your frantic yelling and bewailing will end in nothing, my friend! If you succeed in the attempt to throw off your religion and take up either politics, or society, or any other things as your centre, as the vitality of your national life, the result will be that you will become extinct.”

This quotation by one of the greatest nationalist, Swami Vivekananda beautifully accomplishes the humongous task of explaining Indian nationalism in the most concise manner possible. Its relevance, especially in the modern times, has drastically increased. In the digital age, on the one hand, the world has become a “global village” but, on the other hand, countries are trying their level best to secure their sanctity through the realisation of their national identities.

We are living in times of dichotomy and confusion wherein we want to let go of the boundaries, owing to our wanderlust souls, but want to protect our ethnicity. Where, we travel to other nations in search of better opportunities, but can never let go of our homeland, giving birth to diasporic and hyphenated identities. Where, we want to work on global peace, but realise that it requires peace and agreement between nations.

In such times, it becomes important to realise the debt that one owes to their motherland (nation). Some might question this debt and would make fun of any such concept, but then, they should go and talk to the refugees who have no home, no identity and no existence. No one, other than a refuge, can express the identity that one's motherland provides them with.

Swami Vivekananda says about this debt- “The debt which the world owes to our Motherland is immense. Taking country with country, there is not one race on this earth to which the world owes so much as to the patient Hindu... In ancient and in modern times, seeds of great truth and power have been cast abroad by the advancing tides of national life; but mark you... it has always been with the blast of war trumpets and with the march of embattled cohorts. Each idea had to be soaked in a deluge of blood... This, in the main, other nations have taught; but India for thousands of years peacefully existed... Even earlier, when history has no record, and tradition dares not peer into the gloom of that intense past, even from then until now, ideas after ideas have marched out from her, but every word has been spoken with a blessing behind it and peace before it.”

While some people have taken upon themselves to negate the values of nationalism by associating it with the negative connotation of “excessive love for the nation which makes one blind about the existing problems”, nationalism, on the contrary, is such love for the nation that one always try to make it better, always work on the problems and always enhance the good things.

The youth of the country should, especially, understand the intricacies of nationalism and 'Dharma' so as to contribute to the growth and development of the country in the current year, since India is going to become a youth nation with more than 69% youth population. It becomes absolutely imperative for the youth to study India, become enlightened

and work hard for the nation.

Concluding the argument with yet another quotation by Swami Vivekananda- “Let us all work hard, my brethren; this is no time for sleep. Do not figure out big plans at first, but begin slowly, feel the ground, and proceed. Up, up, the long night is passing, the day is approaching, the wave has risen, nothing will be able to resist its tidal fury.”

He was revolutionary by nature. He couldn't accept the fate of slavery as the only religion of the slaves is to serve their master and for him, the only masters were his Gurus and deities. And thus, he decided to lead the nation for 'Swaraj' and clearly expressed his belief that 'Democracy' was the best option for India.

H e a d v o c a t e d ' C o m p l e t e unconditional independence for India' although his paths were considered aggressive, later the I.N.C. (Indian National Congress) adopted 'Purna Swaraj' as their motto. While resigning from his post he said to his elder brother that – “Only on the soil of sacrifice and suffering can we raise our national edifice.” He discovered his own path and laid the foundation stone of I.N.A (Indian National Army) also known as 'Azad Hind Fauj ' . Discipline and vigorously working were his ideal tools and he believed in universalism. He believed in the concept of the Bhagavad Gita and noted the fact that "one must strive for one's freedom.”

He was a man of word, a man of ideas and ideology. He had shown the world that "winners don't do different things, they do things differently." Gaining complete freedom for his nation was his only motto and he lived and eventually sacrificed his life for the freedom of the nation, of the mind and of humanity.

Even after 72 years of independence his voice echoes in the heart of every Indian who calls him/herself as a true patriotic Indian. He is an inspiration for all and he is the heartthrob of youth and the defence of our nation. You would have understood that we are talking about the one and only Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose!

I will end my article with the two-words that led the nation to freedom and is being used by the government of India and the Indian Armed Forces as the slogan – JAI HIND!

The Mindless Mob &

Media Representation; a communal touch to

Mob Lynching

That is how a mob is. Mindless. Headless. Directionless.

It is a mob. Just full of people, but no actual faces that are visible. Just a swarm of heads and the sounds of cries. They come as one, they act as one and they go as one. Herds following headlessly.

A mob, in India, has been specifically attributed to mob lynching under saffron terrorism. “Mob Lynching”- The moment you hear these two words, the image that appears in your mind is that of innocent Muslims and Dalits being killed by violent Hindus for their religion/caste. The same words have been repeated over and over again, every other day since 2014 and the picture appeared as good as real due to the distortion of facts by the media. This attribution to a communal politics has led to the degradation of Indian respect and image, all over the world. While mob lynching episodes cannot be denied in India, but it is also important to note that this case is not only limited to India. It is prevalent in every other country in the world.

Thus, we try to analyse these cases of tarnishing the Indian image through communal cases of mob lynching that have been going on in the previous years. For this, it is extremely important to analyse these mob lynching cases from an unbiased perspective to understand the real politics behind them.

The lies fed to us...

Let's take a look at some of the events of the so-called “mob lynching” which have been invented on the basis of lies so as to defame Hindus and India.

Accord ing to an ar t ic le published in 'The Hindu' on 21st July 2019, Hindus were accused of killing a person named Hiralal Banchanda for being a Dalit.

In reality, it turned out to be a case of him stealing a peacock; a national emblem. Nonetheless, some media persons twisted this case of theft and painted it as a case of Dalit oppression, to accuse Hindus.

“Punished for being a Muslim; a tattoo of Om made after assaulting a prisoner in Tihar Jail,” was another headline in the 'Times Now' portal. They gave this news a communal colour. Nevertheless, the police refuted this claim and revealed the truth that Mohmmad Nabir, an inmate of Tihar prison of Delhi got himself tattooed Om, with the help of his friend so that he could compel the police to work for him by playing the Muslim victim card. Nobody had forcefully painted a tattoo on him.

“They went on; the dust swallowed them; the glare and the sound died away. The dust of them hung for a while, but soon the eternal dust absorbed it again.”

The BBC website posted an article “Jai Shri Ram: The Hindu chant that became a murder cry” on 10th July 2019 stating that “In many parts of India, Hindus often invoke the popular god Ram's name as a greeting. But in recent years, Hindu lynch mobs have turned Ram's name into a murder cry.”

Let's probe into these cases and then, we shall ask BBC if they could write in a similar manner for Islamic terror in the name of “Allah hu Akbar”:

In May 2019, Gurugram's Barkat Ali accused some Hindus, claiming that they threw his skullcap and forced him to chant “Jai Shri Ram.” However, on searching the footage of CCTV, it turned out to be entirely a false claim; neither was his skullcap flung nor was he forced to chant “ Jai Shri Ram.”

Again in May 2019, a Muslim y o u t h f r o m K a r i m n a g a r , Telangana accused Hindus of beating him up for not chanting “Jai Shri Ram.” Later, police investigation revealed that it was all cooked up and Karimnagar police station uploaded his video on Twitter where he accepted personal enmity as the cause and not a communal issue.

In July 2019, an auto-rickshaw driver Mohmmad Aatib claimed to be beaten up by some Hindus. But, SSP Anant Dev of Kanpur City revoked this because the man was drunk and was assaulted in lieu of personal

dispute; not for non-utterance of “Jai Shri Ram.”

Yet in another case in July 2019, some students of a Madrasa in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh accused some Hindu children of assaulting them for not chanting “Jai Shri Ram.” However, the police investigation claimed that the entire case was fabricated, the cause of conflict being cricket and not “Jai Shri Ram.” Inspector General of law and order refuted this saying there was no religious chant or any sort of religious angle to it.

These are just a few cases. India has been stripped by such fabricated cases. We strongly condemn any kind of violence or taking laws in our hands.

Even if there are a few genuine cases of mob lynching, is it justified to accuse 80% of Hindus as “Saffron terrorists” and naming the slogan “ Jai Shri Ram” as a war cry? The maximum number of terrorist attacks, all over the world, have been done by Muslims, but the Indian intellectuals and the world media aren't audacious enough to name them as Islamic terrorists. At that time, it is brushed off with a simple sentence “Terrorism has no religion.”

On July 24, 2019, 49 so-called intellectuals of India, in a letter to Prime Minister Modi asked him to prevent the escalated cases of mob lynching with Muslims and the Dalits, in the country. They even went to the extent of calling the slogan of “Jai Shri

These cases should be kept in mind when we talk about mob lynching in the context of Hindu extremism. Now, here is a list of cases of mob lynching which we have forgotten:

Case name: 'Bijon Setu' mob lynching Date: 30th April 1982Casualties: 17 Anand Margis were killedCommunist parties all over the world are well known for the brutality they exercise in order to attain power. Whether it was Stalin, Lenin, Mao Zedong or any other. Mao Zedong once even said that “The power flows through the barrel of the gun.” All of them led to several m a s s a c r e s a n d k i l l i n g thousands of people. Following this legacy, Jyoti Basu, the then Chief Minister of West Bengal from the Communist Party of India Marxism (CPIM), was alleged of misusing power to secure his government through forced violence which led to massacres, polarisation and fear in the mind of people of

West Bengal.Prabhat Ranjan Sarkar also known as 'Shri AnandaMurti'- founded an ashram 'Anand Marg' which was in direct conflict with communist and Marxist ideology. On 30th April, 17 Anand Margis (monks) including 16 men and 1 woman were going to attend an educational conference. A mob of around 20 people stopped their taxis and dragged them out. The mob started shouting that they were child-lifters and started beating them. Seeing this, the locals joined them. They were so brutal that they killed 17 of them and not only lynched but also burnt their bodies. All of this was done in a public place and that too in broad daylight. The media was not allowed to cover this incident and didn't even try to, since it was the Hindus being lynched. Anand Margis alleged that CPIM party workers did it while CPIM alleged that Anand Margis did all this themselves in order to polarise the upcoming elections-

Ram” as an incitement. When the person being killed is a Hindu like Dhruv Tyagi, Ankit Saxena, Dr Narang, Ramalingam, Chandan Gupta, Pujari Satyanarayan Sharma and the killers are Muslims, these so-called intellectuals think it best to remain silent by consuming adhesive in their mouths.

The killing of Hindu activists in Kerala, Assam, Hyderabad, and West Bengal is a common sight. These intellectual brigades are silent, even when the Kashmiri Muslims are pelting stones at the Indian security forces, but as soon as a Hindu touches a Muslim, efforts are made to paint India in communal colours.

The lynching of Hindus…

no judicial commission was set up before 2012. In 2012, a s i n g l e - m e m b e r j u d i c i a l commission was set up to investigate the killings. No arrest was ever made.

Case name: Nowhatta mob lynchingDate: 22nd June 2017 Casualties: DSP Mohd. Ayub pandit was lynched.49 celebrities including Anurag Kashyap, Aparna Sen, Konkana Sen Sharma wrote to PM that “Jai Shri Ram” has become a provocative war cry. This action was inspired by the recent mob lynching in Jharkhand on 17th of June 2019 where a boy named Tabrez Ansari was forced to shout Jai Shri Ram and then lynched. Tabrez was caught stealing a motorcycle by the villagers and they tied him to a pole and asked him to shout “Jai Shri Ram” and they, after beating him handed him to police. Four days later, Tabrez succumbed to injuries. Seeing this, the celebrities started criticizing one particular section of society and started the minority-majority politics. But, they forgot the Nowhatta case in which DSP Mohd. Ayub Pandit who worked in the security wing of Jammu & Kashmir was deployed in civilian clothing as a part of the securities for devotees for Jamia masjid. The mob outside the masjid was shouting pro-Pakistani and pro-Al-Qaida slogans. Pandit recorded the

sloganeering and because of that, he was confronted by 4-5 people from the mob. Later, he was lynched by the mob with the slogans of “Allah-hu-Akbar.” So, while alleging that “Jai Shri Ram” has become a provocative war cry one should also remember the slogans of Allah-hu-Akbar by a Muslim mob in the Nowhatta mob lynching. Why is there selective outrage? W h y a r e t h e r e d o u b l e standards?

Case name: Chandan GuptaDate: 26th January 2018 Place: KasganjWhat worse can happen to the nation when its own citizens start killing each other and that too, on the day of celebration of Republic day of nation.Chandan Gupta, a 22-year-old boy who was pretty famous in Kasganj for his social work, was a part of 'Tiranga Yatra' in which young bikers rallied across the city with the flag of India. At the same time, people of Abdul Hamid Chowk, a Muslim dominated area, were also hoisting the flag. The bikers wanted to cross first while the people of Abdul Hamid chowk wanted to hoist the flag first. Some alleged that pro-Pakistani slogans were also heard while they were arguing. Arguments slowly turned into physical violence and the bikers fled away leaving their bikes. At 300 metres from Abdul Hamid chowk, they were again attacked by the Muslim mob

which led to the death of Chandan Gupta.

Case name: Mob lynching of Bharat YadavDate: 18th May 2019 Place: Mathura'Nattho Yadav lassi bhandar', a well-known lassi shop in chowk bazaar of Mathura was run by 2 Hindu brothers (Bharat Yadav and Pankaj Yadav). On 18th May, 4 Muslim youth came to their shop to drink lassi and got into an argument when they were asked to pay. After the argument, they went away but returned an hour later along with a dozen accomplices. That Muslim mob was armed up with iron rods, lathis and country pistols. They instantly attacked the 2 brothers and seeing this, the locals interfered and challenged the mob causing them to flee away. Both the brothers were admitted to the hospital and on the 25th May, Bharat Yadav succumbed to injuries. But, according to the celebrities and pseudo-intellectuals, this incident was not qualified to be an issue and the media did not cover it. Again, this shows that the outrage is selective.

Case name: Marad massacre Date: 2nd May 2003Marad beach is a slum area of Kozhikode district of Kerala where the main occupation of its people is fishing. Two main communities Arayas (Hindu fishing community) and their Muslim counterparts were

involved in that occupation of coastal fishing. On 3rd and 4th January 2002, there was an incident which appeared to be communal. It started with a small conflict over drinking water from a public tap. Slowly, things turned bad and led to the killing of 5 people out of which 3 were Muslims and 2 were Hindus. Police failed to capture the criminals.Exactly 14 months after that incident, the Marad massacre took place. On 2nd May 2003, it was near dusk and with the sky growing dark, a group of Araya fisherman were having a normal daily life discussion, nearby a temple on the sand dunes o f Marad beach. Everything was looking normal but suddenly a mob of around 50 armed Muslims came with sharp weapons like swords, long curved knives and the worst of all, Pepsi can bombs. They rushed with the lethal weapons towards the defenceless Araya group, a devotee and a neighbouring shopkeeper. The Muslim mob brutally killed around 8 Hindus and injured many others. They also threw a bomb which fortunately didn't explode, otherwise, the number of casualties would have i n c r e a s e d d r a s t i c a l l y. Accidently, one Muslim who attacked got killed in the melee. The attackers rapidly escaped into local Juma Masjid in a planned way after the attack and police were unable to catch

17WhatsApp: +91 7428522756

them. It was pretty evident that the Muslim community was taking revenge for the riots of January 2002, but what was more shocking was the way they planned and the amount of preparation they did. A large number of swords and knives were stored in the neighbouring masjid. Police recovered around 17 bombs and other lethal weapons from that area. Justice Thomas P Joseph Commission observed that the allegations made that the collector (district magistrate) was communal, could not be dismissed as untrue. The collector had taken custody of the mosque from where the pol ice had seized lethal weapons. The Commission also revealed that the collector allowed Muslim league leader's

member of parliament Mr E Ahmed to enter the Juma masjid and offer prayer even when the conditions were not good. Allegations on various mosques regarding the creation of communal tensions have always been seen but, why is it that we don't have the guts to say the truth and keep a check on mosques? On 12th April 2012, Kerela High court stated - “there was a deep conspiracy behind this incident and police failed in investigating it effectively.” The Special court convicted 63 accused for killing 8 people at Marad beach. Interestingly, all those who were convicted were Muslims and all those who died where Hindus. But, where are those people who allege the Hindu religion? Why don't they target Islam now?

Is India becoming “Lynchistan” or is it a conspiracy to tarnish the image of India? Let's see the most discussed form of Mob Lynching: Cow Vigilantism.

In India, cattle slaughter is banned in many states, but still, India is the largest exporter of beef. One of the reasons for such high export of beef is the presence of many illegal slaughterhouses which operate across the country. A report published in 'The Hindu' mentions that around 3100 illegal slaughterhouses operate

in Karnataka alone. It is very difficult to estimate the total numbers of slaughterhouses in India. Also, thousands of cattle are smuggled in Muslim majority Bangladesh where there is a huge shortage of cattle. For this, even states like Rajasthan which are far away from Bangladesh supply cattle to them.

A report in The Hindustan Times (Dated: Apr 14, 2017) stated that, over the period of seven years (from January 2009 and February 2016), the Rajasthan police registered over

Cow Vigilantism; the politics behind “Gau-Mata”

3,000 cases of cow smuggling, arrested nearly 6,000 people for the crime, and seized over 2,700 vehicles used for cattle smuggling. The cattle smuggling business is worth millions of dollars each year.

Most meat mafias recruit Muslims to steal cattle and bring them to slaughterhouses because the cow is holy for Hindus and many families financially depend on cattle for their livelihood. Thus, Hindus will refrain from stealing or smuggling cattle because for the, stealing cattle from a farmer is as equivalent to robbing somebody's lifetime earnings.

In most cases, the police don't entertain the complaint of cattle theft by poor farmers because it is not difficult for the meat mafia to bribe the police in a lucrative business like cattle smuggling. The only option left with these farmers is to take matters in their own hands which led to the formation of many “gau rakshak” (cow vigilante) groups. These people gather as a mob and attack illegal cattle smugglers and sometimes legal cattle traders.

The objective of this article is not to

justify mob lynching, but to bring out the fact that mob lynching issue is not a communal issue but an issue arising due to law and order failure. Also, many cow vigilantes were killed by meat mafias but these deaths went unnoticed in media.

Overall, these mob lynching deaths are overhyped by a certain section of national and international media to tarnish the image of India. For example, the BBC website posted an article “Jai Shri Ram: The Hindu chant that became a murder cry” on 10th July 2019. But BBC will never dare to have an equivalent headline when a terrorist kills people shouting “Allah Hu Akbar”.

It takes fine reading to understand the economics behind the violence. The unemployment rate is at an all-time high and the situation of the agriculture sector is in crisis. No wonder thieves are desperate to steal the cows and farmers are helpless to protect their cattle on their own. Anti-Mob Lynching laws may not be the solution unless the root issues of economics and law & order are addressed.

Now, the question must be arising in your mind as to what is the need of presenting these false claims under the garb of truth, to the entire world?

Ind ia has rece ived s t rong leadership since 2014, which got us back our lost honours, worldwide. The world has started seeing us as an emerging world power. India is set on a track with the rapid pace of development as the next superpower.

India is emerging as one of the world's largest consumer markets, the world's largest countries are eager to invest here. Our army is getting stronger, day by day; our scientists are becoming famous all over the world for their space missions.

This growing popularity of India has become an eyesore for some enemy countries. Hence, deliberate efforts are being made to malign the

growing popularity of India by these two allegations of human rights' abuses and communal intolerance of minorities. The anti-India forces are killing two birds with one stone by co-relating mob lynching and “Jai Shri Ram.”

India's greatest strength is its Dharm (culture). On the one hand, our Dharm is being targeted and on the other, communal riots are being fuelled to disturb the peace and harmony, by connecting the name of 'Ram' with mob lynching.

The disturbed country can never tread the path of development. Anti-India forces are trying to fabricate stories of mob lynching and malign the name of Ram to compel India towards civil war so that India's credibility across the globe takes a nosedive.

Otherwise what could be the reasons behind the following questions:

Why are atrocities on Hindus in India not reported in the world media?

Why are China's atrocities on minority Uighur Muslims not seen by the world media?

Why is the media not concerned

about the violation of human rights of minority Hindus in Pakistan?

Why are the false cases of mob lynching with Muslims in India being portrayed as genuine?

Why does nobody raise a voice against the greatest mob lynching in the history of India which happened with Kashmiri Pandits?

W h y d o e s t h e c a b a l o f intellectuals not like talking about the soldiers of the Indian Army being killed by terrorists and militants?

We definitely need to think about all these questions.

Next year, in 2020, we will be a c o u n t r y w i t h t h e y o u n g e s t population. A nation with strong youth will always move towards progress. But, anti-India forces are trying to move the Indian youth away from development and towards violence. The rumours are being fuelled so that the Indian youth suffer the maximum under this fire. Instead of blindly believing any piece of news, we should try to know the truth about those reports and understand both sides of the coin with an open mind.

Youth Awakening Mission member Ashish had a conversation over coffee in Australia. The members present in this conversation were Vishva Patel, Shailendra Sajwan and me (Ashish). Vishva Patel is a Student of La Trobe University presently on a student visa studying Bachelors in Information Technology. Shailendra Sajwan is a permanent residency a holder of Australia and works as a Software Developer in an IT company in Australia.

Ashish: So Shailendra and Vishva how long have you been in Australia? Shailendra: I have been in Australia since last 4 years Vishva: I have been here since the last one and half year.Ashish: Vishva what's your opinion about India? Vishva: I see India as a developing country, wherein I presently live in

Australia which is a developed nation. The first thing that comes to my mind while comparing India and Australia is rules and regulations how its implemented in Australia. For example, in Australia, people wait at the traffic signal to cross the road, whereas in India, we have traffic signals but we don't see it being followed. It is as if people take pleasure in breaking laws in India.

Ashish: Do you have any solution to this problem as a 22-year-old youngster and India is one of the youngest growing nations?

Vishva: We have to start from somewhere. The youth of India should take initiatives. We should do campaigns, awareness programs, and should start at our own level.

Ashish: - Shailendra what's your take on this issue?Shailendra:- I would say the main difference is between the mentality of

people in India and Australia; Australians have respect for law and order, they fear law while Indians try to make their own law.

Ashish: - You have identified some problems and solutions, what other suggestions would you like to give?

Shailendra: - I would suggest we should fast-pace the digitalisation process. We need to work more on our education system. We should focus more on the scientific approach of educating people, and we should focus more on research-based education system than of theoretical base. We

Indians should bring change in the caste system, we shouldn't be prejudiced and should mingle with more and m o r e p e o p l e f r o m d i f f e r e n t c a s t e , community, creed, states and different nations.

Ash i sh : You have completed your master degree from Australia, you must be having friends in India who have studied in India, so what's the difference between

education in India and education in Australia and the reason why you went abroad to do your master education?

Shailendra: First thing, I wanted an International exposure. Had I done my masters in India, it would have been theory-based instead of practical understanding. Thus, Indian education should focus more on a practical approach than what it is now.

Ashish: What do you miss most about India? Vishva: For me, I miss most about India is the food. Food in Australia

tastes different from that in India. I also miss my family. Ashish: What do you think of the family culture in Australia? Vishva: There's a huge difference between family culture in Australia

and India. For instance, when I arrived in Australia, I used to stay with one of my uncles but we could only meet once a week, as our routines were totally different from what we had in India. In India, we have this practice of having breakfast and dinner together, celebrating festivals together. We live together, we love together.

Ashish: Shailendra, what do people in your office think about India? Shailendra:- What I have seen, is that they have mixed views about

India, like some still think about India as for Caste, curry and pollution and some want to explore India and want to know culture in India, and few think India is chaotic they don't like to follow rules and regulations and they all see India as growing. Sadly, they know nothing about the glory of India wherein, India was the Vishwa guru, it contributed 40% to the world GDP before British colonialism. Indian media doesn't show the heritage and culture of India, but they focus only on the problems.

Ashish: Ah! We should make more efforts to spread positive information about India. Thank you for such a lovely conversation!

Is the Indian culture a culture of Brahmins?

Indian culture is also called the civilization of Brahmins, but this is the very same reason for its criticism, these days. Here, Brahmins do not mean any priest. Brahmin was a special class, whose work was to teach spirituality, disseminate knowledge and to compose scriptures and protect the above three. Making money through priesthood was never the goal of the life of a Brahmin as, there was no priesthood in the culture originally, it was introduced much later.

Indian culture has always been a spiritual, religious and philosophical culture. The Indian sage, whom we also call a Brahmin for his special work, is also a visionary of the spiritual truth of this culture, along with religious, ethical and the path of practical knowledge. Even today, such a person who has spiritual knowledge,

knowledge of policy and even politics and who inspires to follow the right path is equivalent to a sage. The Indian sage is a visionary who has written exactly what he has seen because in Indian philosophy estimation and imagination are perceived with extreme hatred.

Does Indian culture encourage casteism?

Indian culture's greatness should be perceived with reference to its original spirit of thousands of years and not by the ignorance and infirmity of subjugation of a few years. Indian culture moulded the external form of human life in such a way that it could give functional form to the basic spirit of the culture and its ideas about life. For this, Indian culture formed a system by moulding society into four varnas and human life into four ashrams. The four varnas were the four sections of the society and the four ashrams were the

When I decided to write on this topic, there were many things in my mind as to what I should write about; which heritage of India should I include. I thought of writing about the Ganges, which despite being a life-giving legacy, is in danger today and needs to be conserved the most. At times, I thought that India is basically an agricultural country and shouldn't have been exploited, rather there should have been reconciliation to produce the crops as India grew organic food (which is talked about all over the world) about 4000 years ago and this needs to be revived. Other times, I even thought of writing about Indian monuments.

While pondering about all this, it struck me that why not write about the Indian culture, which is inherent with all the above legacies. The greatness of culture lies in its perception of life, which is reflected in its philosophy. Indian culture exemplifies external life in such a way as to achieve a goal, aiming at the highest state of the soul in the life of a human being.

four stages in the development of human life. The ancient quaternary system should not be compared with today's degenerated caste system.

According to ancient Indian reflection, there are four types of human beings based on their nature; the first ones, Brahmans, are those who are capable of intellectual work and are endowed with knowledge, contemplation and wisdom. The second category, Kshatriya, is that of a powerful man who is a ruler, warrior, leader and administrator. The third, Vaishya, is that of the businessman who is a producer, a money-making merchant, a craftsman, and an agriculturist. The last category, Shudra, was that of a man who was less developed, was incapable of any of the above tasks but was capable of manual labour and menial services.

This system was not originally based on birth but was based on the ability of man and his inner nature. However, during the course of time, this system got distorted and birth itself became the basis of varna and society immersed into the morass of caste. We are facing its dire consequences to date and are having great diff icult ies overcoming it.

Indian culture has always perceived man as a soul, who is only a fragment of the divine and who has taken birth on the earth for special work. His life's ultimate goal is to merge with the supreme power again. In order to achieve this goal, his life was divided into four stages-

Brahmchari or student's life; grahast or householder; vanaprastha or forest-dwelling

(transition period) sanyas or ascetic. Each stage used to guide how to live in

order to achieve that ultimate goal: In the period of student life, a man

was made the basis and was taught

all that he had to know, do and become. He was imparted a thorough education in various arts, different branches of knowledge, spirituality etc. with special emphasis on ethics and discipline. In ancient times, this education was given in ashrams away from cities.

The person in the Grahastha stage used to reflect the education he had received to fulfill the honorable goals.

Going into the third stage, he used to live alone and try to understand the nature of the soul; he was free from social bonds.

In the last state, if he wanted to discard the remaining bonds and would try to survive with the bare minimum, he would l ive as disinterested in the world, fulfilling the obligatory requirements and benefit in uniting with the supreme.

The need to preserve Indian culture

With the above discussions, we have learnt that Indian culture has the capacity to raise a human to the zenith from his original nadir state and at the same time also provides guidance for this work.

The path that Indian culture provides for the human's upward oriented journey by moving him away from his sense-based engrossment, is absolutely practical. It not only provides guidance for another world but it even guides as to how people can make physical and economic growth in this world too.

The regime of Indian culture not only makes humans capable of performing their social duties but also increases their abilities to attain the goal, through spirituality.

In modern times, it's imperative that we preserve and restore the original form.
