We moved the clocks ahead and we daven Mincha and Maariv earlier! The reason is because of Plag Hamincha, but a little background. The Gemara Brachot Ch. 4, debates the proper time for davening Mincha either until sunset or until Plag Hamincha. Plag is one and a quarter "halachic" hours before sunset. A halachic hour is 1/12th of the day, from sunrise to sunset. Additionally, the deadline for Mincha is also the earliest time for Maariv. In other words, the day ends and night begins at sunset or at Plag (although the sun is still shining). We have scheduled Mincha to be davened just before Plag and Maariv just after Plag. What is important to remember regarding Erev Shabbos, is that one may not "take in Shabbat" before Plag. One may not light Shabbat candles, recite Kabbalas Shabbas, Maariv, or Kiddush before Plag. Furthermore, when the Shul davens Maariv - it is Shabbos for our community. (Some say this occurs officially at the recitation of Borchu, Boie Kalla or at Mizmor Shir LYom HaShabbos.) *Therefore candles are to be lit shortly after Plag, but not too much after, when it is already Shabbos. The bonus is that we have more time to celebrate Shabbos. May we always enjoy Hashems special moments. No Seudah Shlishis until after Pesach. MORTY SKLARIN ע'ה DAF YOMI PROGRAM

Message from the YIDB Finance Committee and the Board of Directors:

Several members who were severely in arrears have been notified this week that their membership benefits have been suspended. Your Finance Committee in conjunction with the Board of Directors have determined that due to the large deficit and the length of time these members have ignored their responsibilities - it was time to take this step. Because 98% of our members take their responsibilities seriously, it is not fair and equitable that these few members do not. We hope that our YIDB membership appreciate the following benefits: Listing in the 2018 Membership Directory (expected to be published by the middle of March 2018) ; Chain calls from the YIDB; Emails, including Yahrzeit reminders, the Newsletter, Organization page & Judy’s World; Access to the ShulCloud YIDB website and Smartphone app; Aliyahs and other Kibbudim; The Amud on Yahrzeits and other times; Members’ pricing on functions such as the Pesach Program, the Succos Program, Purim Seudah and others; Young Israel National Council Benevolent Association benefits only available to members of a Young Israel Branch.

We welcome all to daven and learn here. But, we are all here because of the YIDB and it is our duty to support our shul by becoming members and fulfilling our financial responsibilities once we become members.
