Beauty has always been a massive part of women’s lives from flawless hair and nails to perfect tans.Although a lot has changed appearance wise through history, aspects of beauty have gone full circle and are making a comeback. There has never been

a bigger rise in makeup artists and Instagram beauty in-fluencers leading to ever-growing new trends. However some traditions have not changed and similar 1950s looks are making an appearance this year but with modern twists. The glamour dec-ade is hitting 2017 and I’m going to tell you how. One of the biggest 2017 trends making an appear-ance this spring is the “soft femininity” look. This consists of light makeup using very feminine pastel colours to create a pink and girly appearance. This was also a massive look in the 50s! Women only really wore pastel col-ours on their eyes. Popular ones were pastel greens, yellows and blues but of course there was one defin-ing colour of this decade which was of course PINK. Women wore pink everything - from eye shadow to blush and lipstick. The 1950’s icon Audrey Hep-burn actually once claimed that she “believed in pink”.

Another look that’s forever increasing in popularity and, especially was this winter, is bold lipsticks. This look was surprisingly one of the biggest trends throughout the 1950s which is reflected by the famous red lip decade. It’s said that in 1951 over two thirds of women were reg-ularly wearing lipstick. Women also began lining their lips which is a MASSIVE craze now. Lip liners are sold everywhere but a few years ago were very unheard of. The most commonly used 50’s trend has to be eye-liner. The 1950s were when winged eyeliner became

popular. Even though the trend has evolved to be-come sleeker, thicker looking and have a wider variety of colours. The winged look was first taken from the 50s. Popular colours then were black and brown – the same as today - but eyeliner has become a lot easier to apply with the creation of liquid pens and gel pots. Eyebrows have also stayed quite similar. This year has become very popular for bushy eyebrows after influences like model Cara Delevingne. Eyebrows

went through a fake-filled phase but now they are becoming neat-er and more natural by filling them in less, like they did in the 50s.

A big return from the 1950s is the low slick-back bun. Although the look has modernised a bit, the initial look is still there. The 50s had more of a curl to the bun and had sleek retro curls at the front giving more volume,

where as the 2017 bun is more pulled back and flat to the face. Curly hair was all you would see on women in the 50s. Curly hair has become really popular in 2016/2017. However, the biggest change has been the appearance of the style. In the 50’s curls were very sleek and perfect - they looked glamorous and shiny. In 2017 the popular look is beachy waves. It gives of a very” bed head” vibe.

Nails have always been popular no matter the year, women love having nice nails. The most com-mon nails for women are gels and acrylics, these weren’t around in the 50’s but this doesn’t mean some of their trends haven’t made a comeback. Women wore red nails a lot but they also used natu-ral colours and French manicures. French manicures and natural nail colours are so popular at the mo-ment - it gives a really clean look to nails. The tradi-tional curved medium length nails are still used now but its becoming more popular to have long nails.

Nails are becoming the most popular in nude colours that’s all are customers are asking for at the moment closely followed by french manicures.

Tanning is of course very popular but I think it always will be.Have you noticed any 1950’s trends coming back?

I have noticed people have been wanting more natural and bushy eyebrows which I think was a big trend back then.

How to style bomber jackets

Often styled with tailored trousers or skirts, a bomber is then worn over the top to create a more casual look. To smarten it up again the outfit can be styled with small heels or neutral colour-ed pumps. This makes the look more business appropriate.

Celebrities such as Hailey Baldwin and Gigi Hadid have been spotted wearing the sporty vibe bomber. This consists of a really relaxed outfit of leggings and, either a cropped hoodie, or over-sized sports t-shirt. Styled with trainers and a high ponytail it gives a twist to the usual sportswear look. Another really popular way of styling bomb-er jackets is glam. This is popular on Instagram as social media influencers have discovered the style. The look usually consists of body con dresses paired with heels or boots. A bomber jacket is then thrown over the top to make it more casual.

Tip 1)The colour of the jacket.

If you want something that will be classic and stay in style for a

long time then green, blue or black are the way to go. However, if you want a statement bomber then a pat-tern or satin bomber would be more

up your street.

Tip 2)The fit of the jacket. A bomber jacket should fit like a

leather jacket or slightly looser.

Tip 3) Look for bargains. Look in

vintage shops or for deals online ñ and donít forget your student

discount.

Bomber jackets have been the biggest fashion talk of 2016/2017 and they’re definitely going to be sticking around for a while longer. The trend first hit the high

street with minimal colours and traditional styles, but has since evolved with new levels of creativity. With many shops creating the classic loved trend, businesses had to put a twist on their styles to make them more unique. On the high street alone I have seen denim, velvet, satin and a range of colours, including blues and pinks and florals. The best way to wear a bomber is casual. The casual style is

commonly styled with plain tops, such as cami or crop tops and then a pair of jeans or leggings. This gives a very casual appearance but still looks good without too much effort. Although this style can be worn with any colour or style of bomber, it is commonly worn using black, green or blue. This is simply because these are the easiest to get your hands on and are therefore the cheapest.Trainers are most commonly styled with this outfit but pumps or boots also look good. A recent bomber trend to hit the high street has been the smart-casual style. This creates a very smart and put-together appearance.
