PROMPT: Cross-cultural student teams are tasked with developing a new business model that will solve a defined problem of their choosing.

OBJECTIVES: Teams will discover and overcome cultural differences to de-fine an economic opportunity that other have ignored.

OUTCOME: Over the course of the program, teams will have to work together to create a business model canvas, PowerPoint presentation, and write-up of their project.

PROMPT: At the conclusion of men-tor-driven workshops, student will analyze and present a case study.

OBJECTIVES: Students will have to explore cases for missed opportuni-ties and means of improvement.

OUTCOME: Students will move from summarizing readings to actively analyzing them.

PROMPT: After visiting different busi-nesses, mentors will lead discussions that will analyze corporate culture and business execution.

OBJECTIVES: Students will learn to ask probing questions meant to ex-plore innovative ways for improve-ment.

OUTCOME: Students will begin look-ing for new ways to perform business tasks.

• Exercising sound reasoning in understanding

• Making complex choices and decisions

• Understanding the interconnections among systems

• Identifying and asking significant questions that clarify various points of view and lead to better solutions

• Framing, analyzing and synthesizing information in order to solve problems and answer questions

PROMPT: Student teams will build a 9-part business model canvas and present each section as it is devel-oped to mentors. Each part of the canvas will challenge students to think critically about choices their business would have to make.

OBJECTIVES: As teams construct their business model, they will have to un-derstand the interconnected nature of business decisions

OUTCOME: Students will present the completed canvas to their class and a panel of experts.

PROMPT: Each workshop will corre-spond to a section of the business model canvas. Students will have to connect the learning points in cases and lectures to their project.

OBJECTIVES: Students should explore related areas between cases and their project. By asking poignant questions, their analytical aptitude will develop.

OUTCOME: Utilizing the lessons of workshops will make completing the final project less complex.

Communication and Collaboration LEARNING & INNOVATION SKILLS

• Articulate thoughts and ideas clearly and effectively through speaking and writing

• Demonstrating ability to work effectively with diverse teams

• Exercising flexibility and willingness to be helpful in making necessary compromises to accomplish a common goal

• Assuming shared responsibility for collaborative work

PROMPT: Teams will be made up of students from different nationalities. They will both have to learn to work with each other and then present their ideas succinctly and coherently.

OBJECTIVES: Teams will use the Team Learning Assistant software to encourage positive team norms. Mentors will assist in presentation styles and practice.

OUTCOME: Students will complete a verbal presentation and written ex-planation for their final project.

PROMPT: During workshops, student participation will be strongly encour-aged. After analyzing parts of cases, students will work independently and in small teams.

OBJECTIVES: Students should be-come accustomed to speaking in front of their peers and mentors.

OUTCOME: Practice during smaller team assignments and presentations to make for stronger final projects.

PROMPT: Before and after visiting local businesses, students will work with mentors to discover and explore the foundations of business commu-nication and collaboration.

OBJECTIVES: Students will experience first hand the application of business communication and collaboration.

OUTCOME: Students will gain a new appreciation for successful communi-cation using the transposing lessons from the Team Learning Assistant Software to real life.

Information Literacy INFORMATION, MEDIA, & TECHNOLOGY SKILLS

• Accessing information efficiently and effectively, evaluating information critically and competently, and using information accurately and creatively for the issue or problem at hand

• Possessing a fundamental understanding of the ethical/legal issues surrounding the access and use of information

PROMPT: Prior to arriving at the Young Entrepreneur Challenge Busi-ness Model Competition, students must conduct research into various industries to develop new business ideas

OBJECTIVES: Using the resources available to them, students will ac-cess information to evaluate differ-ent business opportunities.

OUTCOME: Working remotely, stu-dent teams will decide on their top seven business ideas about research-ing industry opportunities.

PROMPT: Students will be charged with reading Business Model Genera-tion prior to arriving at Young Entre-preneur Challenge.

OBJECTIVES: Students will come equipped with a basic understanding of the Business Model Canvas.

OUTCOME: Students will be eager to participate in interactive workshops discussing the building blocks of the Business Model Canvas.

PROMPT: Mentors will work with stu-dents to discuss and explore various ethical and legal issues local busi-nesses face.

OBJECTIVES: Students will gain a bet-ter understanding of the legal and ethical business environment.

OUTCOME: By analyzing real-life ex-amples, students will be better equipped to make decision for their team project.

• Understand how media messages are constructed, for what purposes and using which tools, characteristics and conventions

• Examine how individuals interpret messages differently, how values and points of view are included or excluded, and how media can influence beliefs and behaviors

• Possess a fundamental understanding of the ethical/legal issues surrounding the access and use of information

PROMPT: Developing a marketing and branding strategy will be a major component for the team project.

OBJECTIVES: Students will under-stand how to use the media to pro-mote their businesses in an ethical manner.

PROMPT: Student teams will have to work cross-functionally and assign roles based on student strengths, though those roles will evolve with the progression of the program.

OBJECTIVES: Students should learn to adapt to changing roles on a team environment.

OUTCOME: By the final presentation round, teams will have overcome various changes to their team dy-namics.

PROMPT: Workshops and case stud-ies will challenge students to assume different vantage points.

OBJECTIVES: Students will be able to analyze scenarios from stakeholder, executive, and customer perspec-tives.

OUTCOME: Using the insight gained in workshops, students can apply the same flexibility into their business projects.

PROMPT: Each day, students will have to develop a new block of their business model canvas.

OBJECTIVES: Each team will present their business model canvas at the end of each day to their mentors.

OUTCOME: The team will complete each assignment without the direct oversight of an instructor.

PROMPT: Cases will be used to dem-onstrate real world examples of con-cepts learned.

OBJECTIVES: Active participation is expected from students while work-shops use the case-study methodol-ogy.

OBJECTIVES: By controlling their team, students must be productive during their time together and be accountable for their outcomes.

OUTCOME: Each team will complete the necessary assignments and be held accountable to their teammates and mentors.

PROMPT: Workshop assignments will be given individually but will count towards their team’s progress.

OBJECTIVES: Students will be ac-countable to their teams for their individual workshop assignments..
