What is the vision you have for your renovation? List the specific features you would like to include in
your renovation and determine the priorities - Are they a need, or nice to have if your budget can
accommodate it. You’ll want to consider any future changes you anticipate in your life that would affect
what function you need the space to perform. Remember to involve your entire household in this
process, and highlight any areas of differing priorities or opinion.
During this stage, you may want to:
• Talk to family and friends that have recently renovated. What are they happy with and what would
they do differently?
• Collect pictures of spaces and products that appeal to you online (Pinterest, Houzz, etc.), and from
magazines
• Look through my online design gallery – scottmcgillivray.com/design-gallery
• Visit builder model suites and furniture, kitchen, and bath showrooms
• Go to a local home trade show
Share your wish list with your renovation team to give them a good idea of your priorities, what you like, and what you want to accomplish.
