In fact, the lost-time claim (LTC) rate is now at an all-time recorded low. The DIR combines information on workers who couldn’t work because of their injury or had their duties modified due to workplace injury or disease. Despite safety improvements, there were 188 workplace fatalities in 2013. More than half of the fatalities resulted from occupational disease. In some cases, the worker may have been exposed to the disease decades ago. While the rate of injury went down, the number of disabling injury claims rose slightly as Alberta’s workforce grew by 2.9 per cent to 2.1 million. Workplace injury rates hit an all-time recorded low The latest statistics show a 20-year trend of improved workplace safety.

The rate of Alberta workers being hurt on the job dropped in 2013, according to information provided by the Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB). In fact, the lost-time claim (LTC) rate is now at an all-time recorded low. In addition, the disabling injury rate (DIR) dropped in some of Alberta’s key sectors last year: construction; manufacturing; and oil and gas development. Dear LCA Members The Canadian Construction Association has been asked to explore the possibility of creating a National Benefits Plan to provide benefits to integrated members of the Canadian Construction Association (Full Members of the LCA) who are not currently covered by any plan, or to improve coverage and reduce costs where possible. Prior to moving forward with any such plan, CCA is assessing the interest of its integrated members and Partner Associations. To that end, we have issued a data collection sheet, which will provide us with basic information regarding member firms plans, and the costs associated with those plans. The purpose of this data collection sheet is two-fold. 1) To determine the feasibility of moving forward with an Association Plan, by determining the number of interested firms, how many employees they have and basic information on their current benefits plan (if applicable) to determine potential long-term savings associated to insurer retention costs and various funding methods available. 2) Should there be ample interest, to begin the process of discussing benefit strategies, design, accessibility/eligibility, potential savings under a different scenarios based on volume and census information received, etc. This information being gathered has been configured to be as general as possible, while still providing enough detail to move forward with step 2 should there be enough interest, which will mean CCA will be able to limit the number of times it must contact integrated member firms. We have asked all Members to submit responses to LCA no later than August 19th, 2014, and would appreciate your co-operation in keeping to this deadline. No steps will be taken without CCA’s approval, nor without informing the Lloydminster Construction Association. All data is treated as confidential and will only be used to assess or develop a plan for the members. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the Lloydminster Construction Office at 780-875-8875 or [email protected] Thank you Dorothy Carson CCA Data Collection Form Link
