Penny Sweets Weekly Treats Reading - Fiction books, novels, short stories - magazines, comics, newspapers - websites, kindles - Non-fiction, information, recipe books On-going Term Challenge Aim to keep a diary log throughout this term, in which you record your daily activities, thoughts and feelings. You include a reflection about how you feel you are working towards achieving your targets! PHSE topic: Going for Goals! Mathematics Measure the perimeter of each room in your house. Calculate the area of each room in your house – Tip: Draw a map of your house 1 st ! (See Miss H) Create your own weekly timetable recording your daily activities. Calculate and then draw a bar graph to show how much time you spend doing each activity. Practise your times tables - Write, cover, check - Forwards, backwards, mixed up - Ask someone to test you - Roll a dice and multiply the numbers Learn a Poem/Song Find a favourite poem/song and learn it. You can recite your poem to any of the adults at school, or even perform it to the whole class. Learn to play a song on an instrument. Geographical Thinking Draw a map of South America showing countries and geographical features such as mountains, rivers, volcanoes and lakes. Draw a map of North America showing countries and geographical features such as mountains, rivers, volcanoes and lakes. Draw a map of the USA and label all states of America. Create a fact files about a continent of the world – listing information about continent’s population, climate, industry, geographical formation etc. Learn spellings (TEST - Wednesdays) - Look, say, cover, write, check - Ask someone to test you - Is there a spelling rule that helps? - Identify the tricky part & a way to remember it Make sure you know what all the words mean! Wonderful Writing Create a poem about: Winter, Spring, Valentine’s day, Imagine you have visited a place we are studying (e.g. USA) and create an information leaflet. Write a newspaper article about something interesting that’s happened (remember features!) Write a biography about one of your favourite authors or a famous person who inspires you. These penny sweets are healthy enough that you should be eating some every day! Each activity on each day costs another penny, so (for example) if you read every night you’ve already spent 7p! Got a great idea that is not on the menu? You can always design your own ‘special dish’. The cost of specials will be decided by Miss Homer and the best ideas will be added to the specials board for others to try. Remember: Homework will be marked for: effort, presentation & creativity. How it Works: Each week simply pick one weekly treat and as many penny sweets as you can manage. Aim for 30p+ Homework books to be handed in every Wednesday, with evidence of the treats you have chosen over the past week.
