As a non-profit 501(c)3 foundation, the Marquis Foundation, Inc.

has two goals central to its mission. The primary goal of the

Marquis Foundation is to create funding for school based

scholarships, as well as community

based philanthropic activities. With

an ever-increasing cost to achieve

higher education, The Marquis

Foundation seeks to reduce those

costs by providing opportunities

through scholarships. A secondary

goal of the foundation is to sponsor

several events each year that

provide opportunities to increase

alumni relations and community

spirit, as well as occasions for

corporate networking and support.

You don’t have to golf to donate to the Marquis Foundation.

2006 Marquis Golf Outing

So, what did you miss if you did not make it to the 3rd annual Marquis Golf Outing presented by Timberlake Homes? A beautiful day filled with plenty of great golf, cold beverages, celebrities and

an awesome Outback Steak house dinner provided by our friends in Ellicott City!

The Marquis Foundation also announced their support of $13,000 in scholarships. These awards were given to nine graduates of the class of 2006 at Meade Senior High. Over the past three years, the Marquis Foundation has supported $25,000 in scholar-ships and community support. We graciously thank all those who have contributed and continue to support our mis-sion of “Providing Opportu-nities Through Scholarships.”

Col. McCreedy, Miss Teen MD, Jamie O’Brien, and local radio personality Mark Ondayko join Marquis executive director Jon Putt at the start.

The Scholarships we support... The Steve Singleton Memorial Scholarship

The Hayse Henderson Memorial Scholarship

Coach Henderson was a math teacher, coach, and mentor who spent 29 years as an educator, making a difference in young peoples lives. Confident in his character, he had spirit and heart that came out in the classroom and on the athletic field. He had earned a Masters Degree in Mathematics with a strong interest in computer science. Hayse continues to influence and affect the lives of people through those he touched. The 2006 Hayse Henderson Memorial Scholarship award winner received $2,000 and is attending Loyola College.

Stevie suffered from cystic fibrosis. When he died, he stood four feet ten inches and weighed ninety pounds. He had so much heart that his size and illness never kept him from competing in varsity sports. He was proof positive of the old adage: winning is not as important as how you play the game.

The Singleton Family and J. Putt present $4,000 to the 2006 Singleton Memorial Scholarship award winner. Megan is attending the University of MD, College Park.

The Bonnie Showalter Memorial Scholarship

Ms. Showalter was a social studies teacher for 30 years, many of them spent at Meade Senior High School. Shortly after retiring, she was diagnosed with brain cancer and one of her doctors was a former student of hers. The Showalter Scholarship honors her life and her motto: "Just give the student a chance." It was one of her final acts that established this scholarship.

The 2006 Showalter Memorial Scholarship awarded four $1,000 scholarships. These scholarships are being used for books at such schools as Anne Arundel Community College, Penn State, U.M.B.C, and the University of Colorado.

Meade High School General Scholarship Fund

The Marquis Foundation, Inc. supports Meade High School directly by supporting a general scholarship fund. A scholarship committee from the school then awards scholarships based on criteria set forth for that graduating class. $1,000 scholarships were awarded to three deserving Meade graduates. Two students are attending Anne Arundel Community College and another, the Maryland Institute College of Art.

Charitable Community Support

Over 20 “Baskets of Cheer” were distributed during the Thanksgiving holiday with direct support from the Marquis Foundation. Each basket consisted of many much needed items for the holiday season, such as milk, bread, eggs and a twenty pound turkey, as well as other Thanksgiving staples.

The Pete Morano Memorial Scholarship

Pete Morano played lacrosse throughout his high school career. A love of the arts took him to Philadelphia, where he attend the Art Institute. He was a young man who was well rounded in his abilities, which included not only athletics and academics, but the arts as well. Passionate for life, Pete stood up for the right thing to do, even when it was not the easy thing to do. The Marquis Foundation honors his life with the Morano Memorial Scholarship.
