Wilda Alessi Vice President, Chamber OperationsIt’s hard to believe that the first quarter of 2016 is already behind us.
The staff of the York County Economic Alliance have been hard at work on several new initiatives and programs.
Introducing the Professional Women’s AllianceAt the 2016 Annual Dinner on April 1, we were excited to announce the launch of the Professional Women’s Alliance, an online resource center that celebrates, supports, promotes and advances the success of women in business. Whether you’re a future career woman, a woman just entering the workforce or seasoned professional, we are the place to start.
We are proud to have partners like the YWCA, ATHENA honorees, and York College’s Women’s Business Center Organization, whose mission is to help women succeed. Look in the online resource center for opportunities:• Roundtables• Educational luncheons• Networking events• Mentoring and Coaching• Federal and regional services
If you’re a woman in business or know someone who is, start here at www.ycea-pa.org/women. While you’re there, check out the Small Business Info Center too: www.ycea-pa.org/SBIC.
We are the York County Chamber of CommerceIn addition to adding “Chamber of Commerce” to our logo, my title has changed to more accurately reflect my focus in the organization. As the Vice President, Chamber Operations, my team and I are working hard every day to bring you valuable programming, events and benefits that will help your company thrive.
Last fall, the Economic Alliance rolled out its new messaging strategy with five key messages focused on Connections, Affinity Programs, Data Experts, Funding Programs and Workforce. We changed our logo to incorporate the Chamber and EDC names and we changed how we explain who we are and what we do. In January, we hired Cindi Greco for the newly created marketing manager position to lead the marketing efforts for the organization, its events and programs.
The York County Economic Alliance IS the chamber of commerce and economic development organization for York County.
We are your resource center for business. Start Here.

I got chills. During a keynote address at MANTEC’s fourth annual Business Growth Conference, John McElligott of
York Exponential shared the story of The York Plan. The plan was developed in 1940 by a collaboration of local manufacturers to meet the country’s needs in advance of involvement in World War II. That plan allowed for Pennsylvania manufacturers to play a huge effect on the nation’s war effort. While I cannot quote John verbatim, it was York that led the way. As we enter the next industrial revolution, he challenged, why can’t York lead the way again? We absolutely should! Let’s get started! Nearly 200 manufacturing and industry leaders attended the conference and many found the day thought provocative and insightful. Business growth was broadened this year to include a theme of Smart Manufacturing: The Technology Revolution.
It is here, TODAY. We do not have to wait for “future” technology. Technology is changing the manufacturing landscape and the workforce will need to keep up. Millennials are early technology adopters while the youngest generation are technology natives.

Throughout the day a portable 3-D printer made tiny parts designed by Penn State York students. Weldon Solutions showed off automated systems and robotic arms while
collaborative robot, Sawyer, from Rethink Robotics and ONExia, placed a high tolerance part onto a metal rod. Participants were able to teach Sawyer new tricks. It was as simple as pushing two buttons and moving the arm to the final position.
The message was clear that technology is needed for future business growth. MANTEC is a local resource for manufacturers to embrace technology.

Meet the Ambassadors:Mike Stein
As an Edward Jones Financial Advisor, Mike runs his business with the goal of helping serious long-term investors achieve
their financial goals. He spends his time working face-to-face with clients -- both individuals and small business owners -- to develop, plan and execute a carefully derived financial plan. Mike also works very diligently to earn the trust and loyalty of his clients by making sure he listens to their concerns, understands their needs and cares for their success. Through an initial meeting and ongoing conversation, Edward Jones Investments continually refines their clients’ financial goals and objectives through various life stages. Developing this comprehensive, long-term strategy encompasses assessing each client’s tolerance for risk at each life stage, documenting goals, tracking investment performance and progress towards the plan, implementing tailored advice and conducting regular reviews.
Before working for Edward Jones Investments in 2009, Mike worked for Wells Fargo Financial in Harrisburg.
As an Ambassador, Mike strives to help members make the connections they need while promoting the York business community. He very much enjoys helping small business owners get acquainted with services and people who can help them reach their maximum potential. Mike believe that if the York County Economic Alliance works to develop a strong business community that supports the growth of business at all levels, we will all have a more prosperous future. This is why he is a volunteer.
Mike Stein attended Shippensburg University and studied Human Communication, Technical Communication and Business. Mike enjoys spending time with his wife and two year old son, Hudson along with watching his son grow up and develop his own personality. In addition, Mike is an avid home brewer and greatly enjoys the methodical process of crafting high quality and interesting beer (which he loves to share!).
