By David Jones - President, Young Okinawans of Hawaii
2013 Study Tour Scholarship Offered
It is the belief of the Young Okinawans of Hawaii (YOH) that members are
inspired to learn about their identity and passion ignited when travelling to
Okinawa. Such was the premise in which YOH was created. Therefore,
the YOH Okinawa Study Tour Scholarship program has been established to
encourage the club mission to perpetuate the Okinawan culture here in Ha-
waii and encourage members to visit Okinawa. The scholarship award will
go towards the Ukwanshin Kabudan 2013 Okinawa Study Tour fee. The
scholarship award amount is $1,500 and will be awarded to one individual
interested in attending the Okinawa Study Tour. This is the first of the
YOH scholarship and plans are to make this a recurring program as funds
are available.
Deadline: Applications must be received by May 24, 2013.

YOH Fun-time Happenings
Once in a while, we just need to hang loose, and enjoy
each other’s company. Thanks to Marisa, YOH has
arranged two gatherings so far: Dinner at Uncle Bo’s
and karaoke at Krazy Karaoke.

Andagi Anyone?
Before you know it, summer will be here
and cultural festivals happen every week-
end! I always look forward to buying a
bag of andagi. But, did you ever wonder
how it’s made, or how fun it can be to
drop andagi dough into the fryer? Here is
your chance: YOH will be making
andagi at the KCC Eisa festival on May
11, 2013, and also at the Autumn Festival
at the Hawaii Okinawan Center, held in
September. Sign up to help in the booth
my emailing us. Mahalo!
