YODELER Volume 2 Issue 3 Falll 2012
Green Mountain Chapter BMW Car Club of America
WWW.VTBMWCCA.ORG
I was just thinking….
Summer is winding down
and the Fall Yodeler is
now in your hands. Three
quarters of 2012 have
passed and we now look
forward to the Fall week-
end drives ahead until it’s
time to put away our clas-
sic toys and shod our ix’s,
xi’s, and x drives with
winter tires to keep the
momentum of our
“Ultimate Driving Ma-
chine” ongoing.
This is also the Fall of my
second year as President
of Green Mountain Chap-
ter. At the risk of boring
you, I joined GMC five
years ago after purchasing
a 1998 540i and met John
Holzcheiter. John and his
Board members at the
time were the reason that
GMC existed and I was
taken aback by his enthu-
siasm for it. Unfortunate-
ly, as with all volunteer
positions, John became
burned out. John had led
with such a positive atti-
tude that Larry Gold, Pe-
ter Ohlweiler, Ron Craw-
ford, Roger Batchelder,
Thompson Smith and I
volunteered to keep GMC
going. Most of you proba-
bly don’t realize but at
that time GMC was on
probation from National
and needed to revise its
Bylaws, print a newsletter
and in general prove to
National that we were
still a viable Chapter, and
we did it. Many, many
hours of hard work from a
few people enabled GMC
to continue and keep
growing.
As we approach the Fall
of 2012, and at 63 I ap-
proach the Fall of my
years, I have never been
more fulfilled with GMC as
I was this summer. Val
Swinchoski came forward
to become our Member-
ship Chair and has done a
formidable job. The Mem-
bership card program go-
ing out to all new, renew-
ing and possibly lapsing
Members are great. Zancy
VonHooks has donated her
time to take over as our
Communications Director,
a position she also holds
with Green Mountain Re-
gion, PCA. Zancy’s talents
will be seen in the very
near future. Finally, Nick
Parente is our new Web-
master. My mother always
told me not to pick favor-
ites, but at this time Nick
is my favorite new Mem-
ber. Nick came to GMC
after buying a 1991 325ix
which is still in restora-
tion mode and hopefully
ready for OktoberFAST.
Nick and I spent some
time discussing GMC and
the tasks before us. Nick
volunteered for the task
of Webmaster and has
shown his talents in just a
few months. Our website
is again the envy of other
Chapters and other car
clubs. I want to thank Val,
Zancy and Nick for all of
the help and hope that all
of you will thank them
also when you see them
at OktoberFAST.
Speaking of OktoberFAST,
October 5th and 6th are
this year’s dates in case
you missed the web ad-
vertising, BMW CCA adver-
tising or the two ads in
Roundel. How could you?
Once again we are at the
Grafton Pond and Grafton
Inn. We need a great
turnout this year to help
offset the rising costs of
running GMC. This is our
largest money raising
event of the year and I
hope that ALL of our
Members will show their
support. More on Oktober-
FAST can be found on the
website. Please join us.
Until later,
George Ohlweiler
