2017 ANNUAL REPORT

YMCA OF THE TWIN TIERS • 2017 ANNUAL REPORT 1

“THE POWER OF US”

DEAR YMCA FRIENDS:

Recently, a YMCA member shared a story about “a wonderful thing that I experienced at the Y tonight.

I was working out with some friends and a YMCA staff person when a young man came in...interested in

working out. We were at the end of our workout and sensing he wanted some guidance with weights, we

asked how we could help. He replied that he was hungry. Y staff immediately went to the desk and

arranged for a wholesome snack while he was standing there. The staff then took the time to teach the

young man how to use the weight machines. YMCA staff didn’t miss a beat to help this young man. That

is why the Y is so special!”

For well over a hundred years, the YMCA has been serving this community. The Y’s cause is to

strengthen community by focusing on healthy living, youth development and social responsibility. Our

YMCA serves people of all ages, ethnicities, religions and backgrounds. We are open to - and serving all.

Yesterday, today and everyday together Y staff, volunteers and community partners bring the Y’s

mission to life; “...promoting Judeo-Christian principles through programs that develop healthy spirit,

mind and body for all.”

In 2017, one thousand children took part in after school programs that teach kids how to make healthy

choices, think critically and develop social skills. More than $1 Million was used to subsidize families

who could not otherwise participate in YMCA programs.

As a 501c3 not-for profit, your YMCA is experiencing increasing regulation and costs of doing business.

On behalf of the children, families and adults we serve, thank you for your financial support and prayers.

God Bless…

Jeff Alevy CEO

SHARING YOUR STORY Bradford YMCA

YMCA OF THE TWIN TIERS • 2017 ANNUAL REPORT 3

“The YMCA has been my home away from home.

After moving from Syracuse, New York three years

ago, the first place I came was the YMCA. I was

able to meet new friends, get involved in the

community and start working at the place I loved.

I had quadruplets in March of 2017, and I love

that my children have the opportunity to be a part

of the YMCA. They attend the Early Learning

Center, and I know they are in a safe, caring

environment where they are learning and hitting

new milestones each day.”

— Stacie Titus, Bradford, PA

CREATE AN UNBREAKABLE BOND Flames Gymnastics, YMCA of the Twin Tiers The Flames Gymnastics Program strives to provide quality instruction, individual attention,

a safe environment and program growth. This is achieved by providing innovative coaching

techniques, supportive parent

involvement, and the integration

of the YMCA’s core values:

Caring, Honesty, Respect and

Responsibility. Each child is

given the opportunity to develop

physically, emotionally, mentally

and socially through fun, safe

and productive activities.

Gymnastics helps children

become stronger and more

flexible, and it also helps build

endurance, agility, coordination,

balance and speed.

STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY ONE LIFE AT A TIME Swizzy’s Cause, Olean YMCA

SHARING YOUR STORY Olean YMCA

“I’ve been a Y member for years, and I love group

exercise classes. My favorites are Zumba, Barre and

Strength Train Together. The Y helps me stay strong

and healthy. The friendships I’ve made have been

invaluable. When I think of community assets, the Y is

always first. There you can find folks from age 1 to

100 learning, growing and thriving.”

YMYMCA OF THE TWIN TIERS • 2017 ANNUAL REPORT 4

— DB Busan, Allegany, NY

Swizzy’s Cause is a program designed to improve the lives of people with mental illness

by providing caring support, education and access to the resources that can help them

lead a normal life. The program was inspired by the parents of Jessica Sweitzer whose

friends called her Swizzy. Jessica suffered from multiple mental illness disorders and

struggled to find balance. She taught her parents

that several factors contribute to finding balance:

having the right medicines, feeling a sense of

purpose and being engaged in exercise and

making healthy choices. The YMCA and the

ReHabilitation Center are partners in bringing

Swizzy’s Cause to the community. The YMCA

provides a welcoming and caring environment

with access to wellness opportunities and the

ReHab Center provides a Care Coordinator with

expertise in working with people with mental

illness and access to necessary medical resources

to help individuals find purpose in their day. YMCA

membership is not required to meet with the care

coordinator.

“There aren’t enough wonderful words to describe

how I feel about the Wellsville YMCA Y-Care

Program. I enrolled my daughters at the beginning

of 2017, and my experience has been beyond

amazing. As a restaurant general manager and

single mother, I can say this program has been the

best fit for us. My daughters adore the staff. They

are always eager to greet the staff when I take

them to the program, and they ask me every school

morning if they are going to Y-Care as they never

want to miss a day. My girls are always eager to

tell me about what they did each day in the

program. I am beyond grateful for Y-Care. I go to

work with a sense of ease knowing that the staff

is taking excellent care of my daughters.”

THE Y. FOR A BETTER US.

— Krystal Dibble, Wellsville, NY

The YMCA of the Twin Tiers understands what our

community needs to be its best. Working with friends

and partners like you, the Y provides everyone the

opportunity to be healthy and thrive, to connect with

others, and contribute to a better community.

Everything the Y does makes us—as individuals and a

community—better. The YMCA of the Twin Tiers stays

true to its mission to put Judeo-Christian principles into

practice through programs that build healthy spirit,

mind and body for all. Our cause is to strengthen

communities. We do this by supporting families, serving

all ages, and infusing our core values of honesty,

respect, responsibility and caring at all levels.

™ ™

The entire family has fun at the Olean YMCA’s 2017 Halloween event.

When you join the Y, you are not only joining a health facility – you are joining a health movement. People turn to the Y for the wellbeing of their spirit, mind and body. When people come together, the world becomes better.

The YMCA Planned Giving Societies are organizations of special individuals who have felt or seen, in their time, the impact of the Y on the lives of people. The purpose of the Societies is to build long-range financial stability by strengthening the YMCA of the Twin Tiers Foundation. Individuals who make a cash gift ($1,000 minimum) to one of the Y’s endowment funds or provide for the Y through their estate planning are recognized as members of a Planned Giving Society.

Our grateful appreciation is extended to the following individuals whose legacies and designated gifts to one of the Y’s endowment funds enable us to further the work of the Y in the communities we serve.
