Fitness Advent Calendar

End of Year Disco

Our Learn to Play and Gymnastics members finished off the year with a fun comic book character disco and BBQ on Saturday 16th December. There was dancing, super heroes and even snow - a good time was had by all!

We hope everyone has had a great year and we look forward to seeing you all in 2018!

It has been a big year for Learn to Play at YMCA Epping. Over the year we ran 360 Learn to Play sessions where over 250 kids had the opportunity to learn new skills in Soccer, Basketball, Netball, Badminton or Multi ball sports.

We have finished off the year with a week of presentations to recognise the achievements of our fabulous young sports people. Congratulations to all our winners. Below is what one of our winners had to say!

Name: Edward Award: Most Consistent Sport: LTP Multi Ball Sports

What do you like most about LTP Multi Ball Sports? I love the different sports, especially soccer, and having a great time with my friends.

What do you like about our coaches? I liked Luke and Jack, they are both really good soccer players and very friendly.

Do you think you’d like to come back next year? YES, definitely!

Success at the National All Styles Martial Arts National Championships

Following on from their success at the SKIF National Championships, YMCA Epping Shotokan Karate Club had a number of members hand-picked to represent NSW at the National All Styles (NAS) National Championships. It is it no easy task to be selected to compete in the NAS National Championships. It requires a first, second or third medal placing at one of the 4 local NAS Championships, and an invitation to compete, as well as a placing, at the NAS NSW State Championships. Incredibly three of YMCA Epping’s Shotokan Karate Club members earned the honour of representing NSW at the Nationals on 2-3 December 2017. Instructor, Josie Ngan, secured an Individual second place in her division for sparring (Kumite), and was then selected to join the NSW team in the State vs State sparring event. NSW took the Gold, decisively placing first. Additionally, one of Josie's students, Hiyori, swept up first place in the Individual forms (Kata) with an inspiring performance of "Kanku Dai" to bring home the gold! Competing in his first NAS National Championships, Luke put on a stellar performance, and although he did not secure a place, this young man will certainly be one to watch out for next year! Congratulations Team Epping!
