    LATIN NAME Cananga odorata var. genuine (Unona odorantissimum)

    FAMILY NAME Annonaceae (also spelled Anonaceae)

    SYNONYMS Flower of flowers

    COLOUR Pale yellow

    VISCOSITY Medium to watery

    AROMA Sweet, balsamic, exotic, intense / floral with a hint of spiciness /

    Considered similar to jasmine oil

    COUNTRIES OF PRODUCTION

    Indigenous to Indonesia, Philippines, Java and Madagascar. Most commercial

    production is from Madagascar (Comoro islands), Reunion, Haiti & Zanzibar

    PARTS USED Fresh, fully developed flowers best picked at dawn

    EXTRACTION METHOD Steam distillation

    A total of four distillations is used:

    - The first distillation is known as Ylang Ylang Extra, and is the

    most expensive & highest quality

    - The 3 subsequent distillates are termed as grades I, II and III,and have progressively diminished quality & complexity

    - Good quality ylang ylang will have a smooth aroma which isnot overly strong. A thick dominant sweetness will be noticed

    in some of the subsequent distillationsYIELD 1.5 2%

    BLENDS WELL WITH

    Bergamot, cedarwood, clary sage, jasmine, lavender, lemon, mimosa, patchouli, rose,

    grapefruit, sandalwood, vetiver

    Benzoic, geraniol, linalool, eugenol, safrole, benzyl acetate, Farnesol, pinene
