Such a busy month with our grade 5/6’s on camp, attending discovery day, and awareness

day.

Other students enjoyed netball, the Life Ed van and other fun activities. Expo night on the

26th June will be a fun night with all parents/carers invited to view some of their students

work and also to see some mini performances. We hope you can come and support your

child.

We are currently updating our behaviour guidance policies. This process is a great chance to

review what we value as a school. I have attached a copy of the Play is the Way language

that we use with your child. You may like to use this language at home to support this

program. I have also included an interesting article that discusses the importance of

contributing in order to feel belonging.

This semester has been a learning experience for staff at Yinnar South Primary. Rapid

increases in enrolments meant that we have realised that our usual methods of

communication have not been as successful. We have had to work on better techniques. We

appreciate your support as we change our structures to meet this need. One of the most

important changes is that I am no longer the students pastoral care teacher. This means that

School Vision Statement –

At Yinnar South Primary Learning Community we strive

to create a flexible, vibrant and dynamic learning

environment that customises individual wholistic

development and maximises personal achievement.

the home group teacher. Our staff are always willing to give feedback about students and

discuss their learning with you if you have any concerns. Please ring to make an appointment

or ask the teacher to make a time. (Please be aware that staff cannot have this conversation

while teaching). If you feel the matter is not resolved please make a time to see me. We are

passionate about meeting every child’s needs.

Update Ed – This free phone ap will keep you up to date with school information – absences

can be logged very easily on this site.

School Website – includes a school calendar and school information and photos of student

activities – absences can be logged through the form available on this site.

Please remember we appreciate notification on the day your child is away. If this is done by

phone then a written notification needs to be provided the following day. Thank you.

Round Tables - Early in term three students will be presenting their work formally to you as

part of our Round Table Process. This process replaces parent teacher interviews.

Reporting - We have also begun uploading information into a continuous reporting process.

Mid- year reports may look a little odd as this process rolls into action. Students information

will be uploaded across three/ four week cycles so parents will know what students are

currently working on. This will require parents to log into compass. Compass logins will be

resent home over the next few weeks.

Please remember if you have any ideas to improve our school we are always interested in

hearing them. We strongly encourage parent involvement as it takes a community to build a

school.

Banksia

On Friday the grade 5/6 students attended

Discovery Day at Federation University. The day

was designed to give students insight into

university life in the hope of inspiring them towards

a tertiary education. Students experienced

chemistry, computer science, nursing, visual arts,

amongst other academic experiences. The highlight

of the day was at the end of the day, when students

experienced graduation. The graduation included an

official speech, gowns and mortar boards, and

individual graduation

certificates to

remember the

experience.

Callistemon

In Callistemon we have been utilising the Maker Centre with students creating monuments

that would stand in their town in 100 years time. Students have been getting creative and

thinking about what would represent them. They have been creating a plaque to go with their

monument. Hopefully we will be able to share these with parents at Expo.
