Hello Awesome, Wonderful, Terrific People,

We hope you will enjoy all of the letters, the poems, and, most of all,

the beautiful ads. A lot of time went into putting all of this together;

as you can see we have over 70 pages. Whew!

God has been good to us and I want to thank Him for being so

amazing. He does more than I could ever ask of Him to do and

today I honor Him. He is altogether marvelous and wonderful.

Thanks to all of you who support our efforts continuously and are

always willing to lend a helping hand, some advice or whatever you

have that can assist us with our project(s). Thank you for all of the pennies, the dimes, the quarters, and

the dollars you have donated; as I often say, it all adds up. As of today, we have granted wishes using

approximately $7,500 we raised with our WUAHCAFE and YESIWUAH IDs on www.wishuponahero.com.

I must applaud the Café members and the YESI members because that money was mostly raised

through their efforts. Thanks to Shelley G., Kiley, and Amy who constantly keep our Café store stocked

and give us discounts so we can grant more wishes with items from our store. We appreciate you, ladies.

Thank you Dave Girgenti, Founder of Wish Upon A Hero, for changing my world. You created a place for

my gift to be birthed. I often say that this ministry that I belong to is one God wanted me to do. It was not

by chance or by accident; it was according to His will. This is why no matter what anyone says, I know it

is important to continue to be strong and to keep doing this wonderful thing – Touching Lives, Healing

Hearts, One Wish, One Person, One Day … . (Congrats Team 2/4 your slogan won the “Create a slogan

contest.”)

Thanks to my mom, Mrs. Elaine Robinson, who supports what we do, not only financially but through

prayer and words of encouragement. Mom, you are the sunshine of my life. I love you! Happy 70th

I must thank my Pastor and friend who is my teacher and mentor in leadership. For years, Rev, I have

watched you lead and you do so with patience, with love, with kindness; you go all out to be fair. In

leading this most awesome group of people (247 Wish Upon A Hero members), I have found myself

using the lessons I learned from watching you. You have supported this ministry from its inception, not

just with words but with your financial support. Happy 15th Pastoral Anniversary to you, Reverend Randall

Hello Everyone!! I just want to say how very proud I am to be a member of such a fun, loving group of people! WUAHCAFE rocks and so does everyone in it! The month of June came and went so quickly, all I saw was a flash of Friday!! LOL..........So many helped in whichever way possible to raise our funding for the wish granting we all do using our WUAH ID (YESIWUAH and WUAHCAFE) and for that I am so overwhelmed by the kindness ya'll have given. Each one of us (and many other supporters) played a part in making this anniversary celebration what it is!!! My life has been a struggle. I thought I had it bad.

The bills I had to juggle Always making me feel sad.

Wish Upon A Hero was Brought to my attention.

Kids Defense Team (501c3) was started in 2003 by

Pamela Tomlinson as a way to help comfort children and

teens. Her idea was to supply these children/teens with

toys for a special holiday or to children with long term

illnesses. The idea was to help comfort these kids with a

special stuffed animal to help them feel better on trips

back and forth to doctor visits and hospital stays.

“How can I help Kids Defense

Team?”

go to buy bears and help pay

From Kate's Desk: I have been a writer since my "wee lass" days. When I wanted to find a different fundraiser

for the Cafe, turning to something involving creative writing was just a natural for me.

That's how the poetry fundraiser came into existence.

The details and rules were these:

I hope that everyone has as much fun with this as I think we will. My newest fundraiser

idea emerges.

It involves poetry. :-) Even if you think you can't make rhymes, it's okay 'cause this is for

the Cafe and we'll love it regardless. The deal is this: For each original poem submitted, I

will give a dollar to the fundraising efforts.

1. We need to keep it clean (stop that groaning!) :-)

2. Needs to be between 4 and 20 lines in length

3. Subject matter must be about the Cafe in some way...the people, a person, our

mission, the store, and so on... anything Cafe related.

4. One poem per member

5. Entries can be sent between immediately and 09June, so we have three

weeks.

One of the fun parts... there is a "secret mission" connected to this. And there's cash from

Fee involved for the winners. Perform the secret action and you will receive either $5 store

credit or $10 cash depending on how you carried out the mission. That's all I can say

because I know she's waiting in the shadows to pinch me if I give any

clues. :-)

So that's it... write us a poem and the Cafe gets $1 for your efforts. Those dollars, of course,

end up helping other WUAHans so it's a win-win. Plus there's the extra incentive of not

knowing what it is that will get some members prizes.

Dear WUAH Café Family,

I joined this Group about 10 months ago, and the first few months I was overwhelmed and quiet, nervous and „confuzzled‟.

Couldn't figure out if I belonged or would be welcome, so I waited and watched and carefully "dipped my toes in," a post at a time and then, before I knew it, I was addicted.

I became part of the family; found new friends, a place I could come together with others to laugh, cry, root on, console, and, most importantly, help others.

I have had ups & downs with you guys, and watched others come & go. I have watched fighting, arguing, hurt feelings, miscommunications. HOWEVER, I have also watched loving, caring, making up, communicating, supporting, and coming together for good reasons and causes.

This to me defines a TRUE FAMILY. Whether it‟s in "real life" or by written word, the Café is honestly a family - a very large multitude of so many different personalities, lifestyles, ideas, and emotions. Amazingly powerful – truly a beautiful thing as we each bring something different that, when combined, makes us powerful.

Dear WUAH Café,

The day I stumbled across www.wishuponahero.com, I knew something special was going on within their organization. It is a wish sharing website where you can help grant wishes for others and make your own wish and hope someone helps grant yours. I joined in November 2009; I made a wish for Christmas Cards and then granted other wishes when I could. It felt wonderful to be a part of this community.

One day, a year later, I got a PM (private message) from MrsTurtle:

I requested to become a member of WUAH Café and was approved. I really was apprehensive but in the first month I really started to understand how this Group worked. They join together to bring wishes to the Group and see how they can help grant such wishes. I also found many online friends with whom I can share information, lend an ear to listen, be heard when I need to unwind, and just basically joke around with and put a smile on my face! I have been here about 8 months and I LOVE IT!! The camaraderie is great; the “BOSS” and her crew are awesome; and the fun stuff we do and help with makes me feel useful and gives me purpose. I want to send out a huge THANK YOU to MRSTURTLE for inviting me, LADYFEE for approving me, and all of the WONDERFUL MEMBERS for accepting me. Last year, on January 21st, my husband Rich got a knot in his neck. By the time evening rolled around, he could barely breathe, so we rushed to the ER. Two days later, we found out it was cancer. YES, CANCER. The worst thing we could ever imagine. In March, he had his first surgery – to have his thyroid removed. In June, he had his first radiation treatment (via pill); he could not be around anyone for three weeks. July 9th was the last day of that treatment. August 2nd, another knot was found. The cancer had spread to his lymph nodes and was much worse because his body resisted the first radiation. He had another surgery on August 31st; this one lasted 11 hours. During this surgery, they found the cancer wrapped around his aorta and they could not get that out so he needed more radiation to kill that. He got through the surgery fine but had these horrible blisters on the back of his neck and we could not figure out why. Went to the doctor after he got out of the hospital and found out a chemical was spilled during his surgery giving him 3rd degree chemical burns on the back of his neck. He has lost almost all use of his right arm because of this. Second round of radiation started in September; this time it was external beam radiation and took a lot out of him. That radiation was done the Monday after Thanksgiving. The radiation has worked, and he is cancer free now! I had to tell you all this in order to tell you this next part. When Rich first got sick, that first time he was in the hospital, I called Fee. I was crying and upset, didn't know what was going to happen, and didn't know how we were going to go on, as you all state. She talked to Rich for a few minutes, then talked to me, and told me something I will never ever forget:

"Shel, you can do one of two things - Worry and don't pray, or pray and don't worry." I chose then and there to live by those words. If I let myself get overcome with worry, then I am not letting God do His work on us. Now, I am not saying that I never get scared or wonder where we will go from here but I always choose to turn it over to God. And look what happened? GOD MADE THIS LAST KNOT, NOT CANCEROUS! He got us through this, and will continue to get us through this. God gives us trials to teach us and to make us stronger, not to break us. He never ever gives us more than we can handle (and, yes, even I said, “What does He expect me to be, superwoman?”). Rich and I are stronger now in our faith than we ever were before and you know why? It is because of Fee's words and because of God. It’s because we needed to know to lean on God and not ourselves. So, today when you worry, think about this. God has YOUR BACK. God is there for you. God will get you through this. God will never ever let you down. And just when you think you can't take anymore, He is there to pick you up and carry you through it (remember the Footprints poem?). I pray for every single one of you guys, every single day. I pray for God to get you through whatever it is you are going through. I pray for God to give you the strength you need and carry you through it. Just when you think you can't take it anymore, remember my testimony. Remember me saying I didn't think I could get through it either. BUT I DID. AND YOU WILL, TOO. Fee, you told me one day I would give my testimony. Here it is. Thank you for being my rock and showing me that things will be okay. You have never ever failed me nor let me down and for that I appreciate you. I love you and, even though we fight sometimes, you are my SISTER IN CHRIST and I cherish you in my heart every single day. I love you. A recipe or two

from the chefs in our

CAFÉ!!

"Irena Meal" 3 sticks butter 4 lbs thick cut or cubed ham salt and pepper, to taste

8 cans sliced or diced new potatoes (drained)

8 cans cut green beans (drained) (This makes a big batch so you can cut in half.) Melt butter in large soup pot with ham. Cook a few minutes then add potatoes and green beans. Add salt and pepper to taste (I use a lot of both)! Bring to low boil and simmer two hours or so. I always serve this with sweet cornbread.

Steak Goulash Stew

¼ C all-purpose flour 2 Tbsp sweet Hungarian paprika,

divided 1 tsp salt 1 tsp black pepper 1 ½ lbs sirloin steak, trimmed,

sliced into 2-inch strips

4 strips bacon, diced 2 Tbsp olive oil 1 C sliced onion 1 Tbsp minced garlic 1 Tbsp tomato paste 2 C beef broth 1 to 2 Tbsp red wine vinegar

Combine flour, 1 Tbsp paprika, salt, and black pepper in a paper bag. Add steak and toss to coat with flour mixture; set aside.

Cook bacon in a sauté pan until crisp. Remove bacon to a paper towel lined plate; set aside.

Add olive oil to pan with bacon drippings; heat over medium until shimmering. Sear steak strips in two batches, 1 minute per side. Remove steak strips to a plate; set aside.

Sauté onion and garlic in same pan over medium-high heat, 2-3 minutes. Stir in tomato paste, 1 Tbsp paprika, and remaining flour mixture from bag; cook 1 -2 minutes.

Deglaze the pan with beef broth, scraping up bits on bottom of pan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium and simmer stew until thickened, about 5 minutes.

Add steak with residual juices and vinegar; simmer 3 minutes. Season stew with salt and pepper.

Serve stew with Sour Cream and Horseradish noodles. Garnish each serving with sour cream, dill, horseradish, and bacon.

Dear Fee,

On behalf of the many people you have helped with your generosity, we

would like to send out a huge thank you. Sincere thanks for clothing,

feeding, befriending, and warming hundreds of people in need.

The Cafe has been a place we can all come to when we are sad, hurting,

happy, broken, lost, and found. We ALL look forward to it and would not

have it any other way. The day and night crew, along with everyone in

between, look forward to having you online to talk to us. We look forward to

every moment we can share with you, especially when you are home!

You have brought countless birthday smiles and many Christmas memories.

You have cheered us up when we are sad, listened to us when we need to

talk, and been our sister in Christ. Now if we can only get you to love our

dear little fur babies as much as we do, all will be right with the world. :-)

So today, on behalf of the Cafe, we ALL would like to say THANK YOU.

Thank you for being who you are, for being such a Godly sister to us, for

putting us back together, for putting up with staff behind the scenes, for the

time you give us, for everything you do. Our world has changed so much

because of you, and it's all for the better.

You are not only the Superhero of the year, you are the Superhero of our

hearts, souls, and lives, and always will be. We all love you so much. Here's

to many, many, many more years

Dear WUAHCAFE,

Today I greet you in the name of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I hope you are all doing well and you

enjoyed all of the anniversary celebrations and giveaways. I enjoyed every minute of it – the laughs, the

tears, the clip art, the pictures, the poems, the letters, the gifts, the creativity, the energy, the coming

together toward a common goal – everything; I enjoyed it all. I could not have asked for a better 2nd

anniversary/birthday celebration.

I am totally and utterly humbled by the work you all did. Yes, as always, we had the same set of people

participating but it has imprinted a lasting impression on my heart. I saw Kiley pull Team 1/11 from a low

place to a high place with a lot of help from the team and many hours working on projects (even if the

project ultimately fell through). Two stars to you and the team, Ki. I saw Steffi and Tabbie struggle to get

their team over the goal line. I appreciate you ladies. On many days, I saw Mary talking to herself in

Team 3/5 and thought, “Wow, she never gives up!” I’m impressed by your leadership skills, chica. I saw

you selling things from your house just to get your team to the desired goal; I give two stars to you as

well. I saw Kerri scoot over from Team 9/10 to take the helm at Team 6/8 and, boy, was it a struggle. But,

even on the worst of days, she was pushing the team and never once did she whine or complain. I give

three stars to you, Kerri. The team that made me laugh the most was team 9/10; hahaha, they were

hilarious. We had Mindy, with her quiet and weird wit, and Kristina, who was not only pregnant with our

God child but also had major OCD issues. If the total was any amount with some cents, Kristina’s OCD

always caused her to round the number up to the next dollar amount; it was the basis for many jokes over

the month of fundraising. Then there was Ellen, who wanted to do more but life kept butting in – but she

never gave up. This awesome team, with its fabulous Team members, was the first to meet its goal and

they did it happily; so proud to know all of you. There was Shelley and Mel in Team Fee, who could not

have done it without the wonderfully supportive team and the challenging words of Shellfry and Debs who

constantly kept them in winning mode. Thanks to all of you lovely ladies for a job well done. To all of the

originally appointed team leaders who stepped down, fell down, or were taken down, thanks for all you

did.

I must give a standing ovation to Mrs. Michele McGuire (mrsturtle) who spearheaded FIVE teams and did

it with such grace and style. Your support and love and consistency, even when you had your plate full,

is to be admired. We thank you always.

As a group, you all have changed my life. You are my personal learning experience. You constantly

show me how much work is involved in being a leader. There are so many skills I have had to learn

along the way. You've fine-tuned my listening skills; helped me to work on being patient; made me

realize that I can love you even when … even when I don’t want to, I can love you. Thanks for all you do;

thanks for all you bring to the table. Thank YOU. Yes, you.

WUAH Café, you have changed my life in more ways than I can ever express. You fill my life daily.

There are days when my inbox is empty except emails from you guys; yes, you have kept me company.

You have made my stay in Iraq easier than I anticipated because you are always here online.

To past and present staff, I want to personally thank you for all you have given to the Café because each

of you, even if you were here briefly, did so much. I hope one day we will be able to move you from

volunteer status to paid employees. Thank you.
