This link has been sent to us by Mrs Waterhouse from

Chesterton Community Sports College. I know that many

of you are heading there in September, but even if

you’re not some of the things in here might be useful.

The first two pages are the topics each subject are

starting with in September, so that you can get a head

start and do some research or reading in advance.

The next two pages are websites you might find useful

with lots of activities for you to do. Then there is the

BBC Bitesize timetable for the first two weeks so you can

see which lessons you like the look of. There is a sample

timetable which might be useful to follow and lots of

ideas of how to fill your spare time.

Finally there are some activities to do to help you in

your transition to CCSC in September if you are going

there - but remember there isn’t any harm in people

who aren’t going to CCSC doing the activities too!

Bumblebee comprehension (Answers)

1) The organisation is the Bumblebee Conservation Trust.

2) The bumblebees’ cousins are the honeybees.

3) The section written to inform the reader they are un-

likely to be stung by bumblebees is ‘Don’t ‘bee’ confused’.

4) A word which shows flowers are essential to bumblebees

is “lifeline”.

5) Humour is used in the text in different ways, you could

have any of these answers: the play on the word ‘bee’ in

“bee kind” or “Don’t bee confused”/the author calls bees

“fat and furry”/they tell us about the bumblebees having

smelly feet - did you find any other ways?

6) Bumblebees are important to the human race for any of

these reasons: they support farmers/gardeners, they

are much loved (“an essential part of summer”), they also

pollinate plants including flowers and food sources such

as tomatoes and they keep plants alive.

7) List three things you discovered about bumblebees,

there were lots of interesting facts!

Commas punctuation (Answers)

After snooker, pool is my favourite game.

Carmen said, “I play the banjo and flute.”

I locked my bicycle, which is blue and green, by the school gates.

Sean, Andy, Mike and Paula chased the dogs.

Although they are deadly, sharks are ace.

Remember commas can be used for many reasons: in a list, after a

fronted adverbial, to introduce or split direct speech, to show

parenthesis and to avoid ambiguity.

Maths (Answers)

1) The total area needed for all the year groups for cart wheels

is 86m².

2) Y3 sides will be 3m in length, Y4 sides will be 4m in length, Y5

sides will be 5m in length and Y6 sides will be 6m in length.

3) In total the perimeter of Y3 will be 12m, Y4 will be 16m, Y5

will be 20m and Y6 will be 24m. In total they will need 72m of

fencing.

4) In total there will be 15 groups of Y5 children as 15 x 6 = 90

which is the closest to 86 divided by 6. There would be 14

groups of 6 and one group of 2.
