YEAR 8 ASSEMBLY - Advice from our current Year 9 students
through it Speak to your friends about your decisions, but don’t let them influence you too much.
Use the Choices Fair to make an informed decision on the choices you want to pick.
Don’t be afraid to ask your teachers about the different courses.
Don’t leave it until the last minute. Choose subjects you enjoy …..so don’t listen to your parents.

YEAR 8 INFORMATION EVENING
Finalising their subjects
There are some pupils where we have suggested they choose three other subjects and they will have access to extra support
lessons to help them excel in their chosen subjects.
YEAR 8 INFORMATION EVENING
Everyone has to do English, Maths & Science. Plus Core PE & PDL (compulsory- no examined)
They then choose four other subjects.
Choices Form to be completed by Monday 25th April
YEAR 8 INFORMATION EVENING
You can choose any combination of subjects, but need to choose sensibly and there are some guidelines:
Do you want to take the Ebacc group of subjects (English Baccalaureate)?
• If so, you need to pick Geography or History and a language as a choice. Your third and fourth choices are “free choice”. This gives you a strong set of qualifications to build on for the future.
• We recommend that most students do this.
YEAR 8 INFORMATION EVENING
Choices form
Will your choices, together, give you a broad and balanced curriculum?
• It’s usually not a good idea to pick too many subjects from the same area. We won’t let you take two subjects that are very similar, such as Btec Sport and PE.
Is this a GCSE qualification?
• We won’t let you do more than one non-GCSE qualification (Btec Sport, Btec Media or CiDA).

Preparation for life after Perins
• Colleges are more open to Vocational however, we wouldn’t recommend taking two.
• We cannot predict what colleges will request in the future.
• We want to keep the doors open for when pupils are selecting there choices for KS5.
• Pupils will be competing at the selection stage when applying for colleges. I.e. Peter Symonds.
