Qura’n 51:55: And remind, for indeed, the reminder benefits the believers.

The importance of revision is twofold; firstly, it helps you to remember facts, figures, topics and

methodologies that you have covered some time ago. Secondly, if done correctly it will help increase

your confidence and reduce anxiety – you will be well prepared for your examination.

Effective revision is not something that can be rushed. The earlier you start and the more organised

you are, the greater your chance of success. You'll be less likely to encounter stress or have to do last-

minute cramming.

One of the worst methods of revision is to read through the notes and content and leave it at that. Only

a few rare people remember all that information after just reading notes! Follow up your reading with

various activities such as:

• Note taking – writing down summaries and bullet points.

• Drawing mind maps and spider diagrams – write down the topic in the middle of the page and

then branch out for key themes with related words and pictures.

• Mnemonics.

• Story – if you have a group of facts to remember and it is hard to see how they are related …

• Try to link them to something else.

• Use past paper questions.

• Revision websites.

There are two components to our success:

➢ Our efforts - making the right effort (tying the camel)

➢ Our trust in the Almighty (Tawakkul) followed by supplication

We are here to help you and we pray for the best for you.

Finally, remember that ‘you will reap what you sow’. The efforts that you put into your studies now will

help you in your GCSEs and in the future, your efforts will never go in vain.

“And endure patiently, for Allah does not waste the reward of those who do good”.

What do I need to revise?

You’ve covered a lot in English so far! To help you prepare best for year 8, you’ll need to revise

language techniques (like similes, metaphors, etc) and how to do a good PEEZAL paragraph. You’ll also need to revise how to write a good description by using senses, good vocabulary, detail, and language devices. You can do this in lots of fun ways, like reading and sensory

activities, by revisiting the work you have done, and by relaxing with some good short stories or books. Take time to look around you and describe what you see.

How can I revise for English?

• Re-read the novel ‘Matilda’, and draw a comic strip of what happens in the novel.

• Practise as much as you can- if you like, choose a character and write a PEEZAL

paragraph about what they are like and how the writer made you feel.

• Use a thesaurus or online thesaurus to find new and interesting words, and try using

them in conversation. Impress your family with your new words!

• If you want to, describe events that happen to you over the holidays, or a meal you have

eaten- use senses and vocabulary and try to carefully explore each of the 5 senses you experienced.

• Read back over the work you completed in the summer term of year 7, including any

PEEZAL paragraphs/descriptions and any feedback you were given.

• Read other Roald Dahl books

How can I revise for Science?

Review the powerpoint slides that you have been provided with. This means read through them again. After you have read a powerpoint, go to the booklet it is linked to and complete the tasks

again- cover up the answers you have already written in. Then check your new answer against the first answer.

Use BBC bitesize to read about each topic you have learnt and practise the questions which follow. Practise means you should write down the answers and then check them. Don’t just answer the questions verbally. Just reading from the website will not help you.

You have been given knowledge maps. These are excellent, colourful summaries of what you have learnt in each topic. Read each knowledge map then complete the mind maps using

information from the knowledge map. Your teacher has shown you how to do this.
