RELIGION

The MJR Program

• MJR - 'Making Jesus Real'.

• Integrated into Religion units.

• Students using a MJR workbook.

• Miss McCosker working with students about MJR themes.

• Themes include kindness, resilience, leadership and teamwork.

Students will participate in a daily Religion lesson using the Rockhampton Catholic Education Curriculum.

ENGLISH

English aims to ensure students: learn to listen to, read, view, speak, write, create and reflect on

increasingly complex and sophisticated spoken, written and multimodal texts across a growing range of

contexts with accuracy, fluency and purpose.

LITERACY BLOCK - READING

• Modelled Reading – Teacher models (THINK ALOUD); students observe.

READING STAMINA

• The ability to read uninterrupted for 20 minutes.

• Trains muscle memory and supports increased attention.

• Focus on reading behaviours and strategies.

LITERACY BLOCK - WRITING

• Modelled writing – Teacher models (THINK ALOUD); students observe.

• Shared writing/joint construction – Teacher models; students join in.

• Independent writing - Students write independently with a purpose.

• Guided writing – Students focus on writing traits; Teacher supports.

WRITING STAMINA

• The ability to write uninterrupted for 20 minutes.

• First edition: ‘Heart’ writing. No focus on spelling or handwriting.

• Second edition: ‘Head’ writing. Editing of work.

• Focus on ‘Writing Traits’ to identify quality writing.

LITERACY BLOCK - SPELLING

• ‘Word conscious’ classroom.

• Taught within the context of writing.

Spell-It Program

• Research based spelling program.

• Assessments used to identify the gaps in students' spelling knowledge.

• Teaching topics are differentiated to meet the students' needs.

• Teaches sound-letter relationships, syllable structures, morphemes and word origins.

• Teaches proofreading strategies.

SPELLING PATTERN OR RULE

• Introduced during whole class lesson.

• Complete activities to apply this knowledge of the rule eg word sorts.

• Tested on Friday: dictation or cloze.

Students will continue to have personalised spelling words.

MATHEMATICS

Mathematics aims to ensure that students: are confident, creative users and communicators of

mathematics, able to investigate, represent and interpret situations in their personal and work lives and

as active citizens.

• Design and Create a board game for classmates to play around the First Fleet.

• Design and Create an indigenous artefact.

• Design, create and test a marble run.

• Create a useful piece of clothing with appropriate materials. Linked to Science Unit.

Digital Technologies

Students have a 1 hour lesson every fortnight with a specialist teacher.

• Students discuss E Safety, create blogs and collect data. They represent this data on infographics.

• Robotics: Students use EV3s/Chromebooks/Makey Makey.

HEALTH AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION

HPE consists of:
