Unders tand ing t he exam

The NAPLAN examination provides teachers and parents with some informationabout how a student is progressing in their literacy and numeracy.

Persuasive Wr i t i n gIn 2011 the form of writing chosen to be assessed changed to Persuasive.Persuasive writing involves trying to convince a reader with an argument. Thestudent will be asked their point of view about a particular topic. For instance, they might be asked whether summer is better than writer. The aim is to try andpersuade the reader to agree with their opinion.

Prac t i s ing t he exam

It is important to use your time wisely. Plan and review carefully. Most teachers

agree it is better to write less correctly than submit pages of writing full of errors.

It is a writing test! Think before you begin, continue carefully without rushing andstick to the time limit.

Assessing t he Wr i t in g Task

Assessors will use ten writing criteria to assess a student’s writing:

Year 3 Sam p le Answ er Tes t 1

h o m e w o r k .

Play is not as important as homework. Itnever has been and never will be. You

can’t get a good job if you just play all the

time. It is important to do work at home and make

sure you understand all your school work. Homework is time well

spent and not wasted like play time.

Homework is important if you want to succeed and get a good job in

the future. Homework helps build good skills for when you are old.

Imagine a doctor who didn’t do his homework and didn’t know all thenew cures. If you don’t do homework you could end up a unemployed

because nobody will give you a job.

Homework is a great revision of what you have learnt at school. It is

practice for what you have learnt at school. Everyone knows that

repetition is how you learning and get success. With the practice of

homework you can develop your skills to a high level. This will lead to

success at school. You will do well in your tests and win awards. The

success will come because you did your homework completely insteadof running around for nothing.

The final thing that makes homework more important than play is

that it is a good use of time. Playtime is what you have at pre-school.

Once you get to school you need to make sure you do well and not

lose time playing all afternoon. Time spent sitting around doing

nothing or just wandering about with friends is completely wasted.

Play should be avoided until all your homework is complete.

In conclusion, we can see clearly that homework is more importantthan play. It helps us learn and leads to a successful life. We are too

old to play once school gets serious.
