DIVISION

This week we will look at division in maths. Division is another word for sharing. Division goes hand in hand with times tables. Handy hint: If you see ÷ 2 think of it as counting in 2’s. So, 6 ÷ 2 would be count in 2’s until you get to 6, which is 3. If you see ÷ 10 think of it as counting in 10’s. So, 50 ÷ 10 would be count in 10’s until you get to 50, which is 5.

If you see ÷ 5 think of it as counting in 5’s. So, 25 ÷ 5 would be count in 5’s until you get to 25, which is 5. This page gives you lots of information about dividing by 5: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/z7syhcw This page will give you information about sharing: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zfxtnrd

St David’s Day Acrostic Poem MONDAY TUESDAY This is an acrostic poem about St David. An acrostic poem is a poem in which the first letters of each line spell out a word.

D is for David

D is for David, our own Saint is he; E is for eyes, he could make the blind see.

W's for water our Saint loved to drink; I's for his influence on all that we think.

S is for Saint David's - a city of fame;

A is for always, we'll honour his name. N is for Non, David's mother was she; T is for thoughtful, so caring was he.

And now altogether

Our voices we'll raise, Let's honour Saint David,

His great name we'll praise.

Dydd Gwyl Dewi Sant!

Choose two of these activities:

• Learn the poem off by heart and share it on Flipgrid. Use expression in your voice.

• Write your own Welsh acrostic poem. Use lots of adjectives. Ideas: WALES, LEEK, DAFFODIL, RUGBY, NEATH.

• Write out the ‘D is for David’ poem in your best handwriting and illustrate it beautifully.

St David’s Day - Art TUESDAY

Here is a selection of pictures of artwork linked to Wales.

• The plate is a Gaudy Welsh china plate.

• The love spoons were carved in Wales and have symbols on them for different meanings.

• The painting is of a traditional Welsh village by David Barnes.

• The daffodil sculpture is made from metal.

I’d like you to create a piece of Welsh artwork for St David’s Day.

Here are some ideas:

• Draw a love spoon using watercolour paints. Look closely at shadows and the darker and lighter areas.

• Make a daffodil sculpture out of wire, papier mache or recycled objects.

• Paint a landscape painting of the Welsh mountains.

• Paint a Gaudy Welsh pattern on a paper plate.

• Create a detailed drawing of a Welsh object – welsh lady/dragon/harp.

Bring your finished artwork into school when school resumes. It might be chosen to go on a shared Welsh display wall in the

junior corridor.

You can also share it on Flipgrid.

Welsh – Dewi Sant on Flipgrid MONDAY

Mrs Broad has prepared a lovely Flipgrid presentation for the junior classes on the story of St David.

You will need to type in a different Flipgrid Join Code to view it. Here is the Join Code: broad2479
