Revision Strategies A lot of students will waste time on ineffective activities such as:
• Highlighting
• Reading
• Summarising
Why are these ineffective?
Low challenge
Little thinking required
Make students feel like they are doing something (false sense of accomplishment)
The student looks busy
Revision Strategies that work
• Mind maps / Look Cover Write Check
• Command Words
• Practice papers and questions
• Revision Timetable
Mind Maps/ Look, Cover, Write, Check
This is essentially retrieval practice ( a measure of how quickly something can be recalled).
Students need to take a blank piece of paper and write down everything they can remember.
It works best if they can link all of their ideas from one main topic.

Great Websites
Websites like primrose kitten have great resources for
Science and Maths including videos and practice
papers.
BBC Bitesize has great basic revision, videos and
Tests available.
Students have access to Seneca learning.
Exam Stress It is really important to remember that some stress is useful.
It can motivate you to do better or help you focus on overcoming something.
There are ways to help if you are feeling stressed:
• Fresh air and exercise
• Relaxation time
• Eating and sleeping well
• Talking to friends and family
Study Space
Is there a place in your home that could be a dedicated study space?
It will help if this areas is clear of clutter, well lit and is in a quiet space.
It will also help if you keep your notes and revision materials organised.
Setting up a revision timetable early so the whole family knows what you are doing and when can really help everyone support revision.
