Learning the regular preterite tense

The preterite tense is used for describing simple, completed actions in the past, like ‘she bought’, ‘he said’, ‘they found’.

In Spanish, remove the infinitive ending (-ar, -er, -ir) and add the following endings:

The imperfect tense

The imperfect tense is used for actions or events in the past that are incomplete, recurring or descriptive. It is also used to talk about what ‘used’ to happen.

Using future time phrases

It’s not just the tense of the verbs that tell you when something is happening. There is often a time phrase or word that also indicates when the event is taking place.
