GPS: Parenthesis

Parenthesis is used to add extra information to a sentence. If you removed the parenthesis, the sentence would still need to make sense. The most common way to add parenthesis is using brackets. However, parenthesis can also be added using a pair of commas and even a pair of dashes.

English/WritingThis week we would like you to think about a debate focussing on the morals presented in the legend that is Robin Hood.https://learnenglishkids.britishcouncil.org/short-stories/robin-hoodThis link will take you to a short story if you are not already familiar with the tale.We would like you do debate the following question:Do you think stealing from the rich and giving to the poor was right?Use the panning template below to help you. Some of the persuasive language that you learnt last week will come in handy.

1. Begin by reading the story2. Write down the reasons Robin Hood’s actions were both right and

wrong. You need to have a balanced view of both sides to debate well.3. Now find a side you agree with more4. Plan out your arguments. For every argument you have, you need

evidence from the story or an example from real life.5. Have a strong closing statement.

How you choose to present your debate is up to you. Maybe you can go head to head with someone else in your house hold and you can both prepare an argument for the two different sides.Don’t forget, you can email anything you do to your teacher on the 2email section of purple mash.

Some persuasive language that you may use:

Page 13: Year 1- Weekly Homework€¦  · Web viewYear 5 - Weekly Home Learning . Week 3 – 04/05/20. All of these activities do not need to be printed and can be completed by writing on

What is the definition of a mammal? Look it up and write your definition below.____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

A life cycle shows how any living thing changes from birth through to death. Generic life cycles almost always include reproduction which causes a branching effect. Watch this clip before beginning the activity.https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zt96sg8

Your task is to choose three mammals to create a lifecycle for. There is an example of a mammal lifecycle below and a two blank lifecycles if you wish to print them and fill them in with varying amounts of stages, or you can create your own. Ensure you include written information that describes what is happening to the mammal in that particular stage of life and a drawing of the animal in that stage is vital.
