2007 ‘Do It Yourself’ Cruise

• The cruise has involved the participants at every stage, from the very start:

– Early in the year participants decided where and when to go

– Pre-cruise preparation: choosing the charter agency and the boat, ordering nautical charts

– For the ‘beginners’ some extra preparation (investment? ) was organized by Rob, our skipper: basic navigation skills, outings on the lake with the surprise

• Open to all club members

• Particularly interesting for

– Skippers who want to gain experience before ‘chartering on their own’.

– Club members who have started sailing on the lake and want to put heir skills at test on the sea

• 2007 cruise: 1 experienced skipper, 3 SU key holders, 1 CK student, 2 ‘dinghy people‘.

Conclusions

• 250 nautical miles, almost all the time upwind!

• 2 night sailing, 2 nights in a harbour, 3 nights anchored in gorgeous little bays

• Visited Calvi and Centuri + admired the wild coast of NW Corsica and Capraia

• Mild weather and good winds most of the time

• We avoided the crowds of the high season

• Cost: ~750 euros per person


YCC Sea Sailing 2008

• Planning another edition of the ‘do it yourself’ cruise

• So far I have collected a list of possible destinations, periods and people interested to join:

– Croatia, Greece, Galicia, Brittany to Isles of Scilly

– June, September

– At least 2 skippers have shown interest
