We received a letter from Fortune Lake concerning summer camps. It reads in part…

Many of you have memorized this verse around the campfire at Fortune Lake, accompanied by a chorus of guitars. The song uses the old language of the King James trans-lation—“everyone who loveth is born of God and knoweth God…”--but the message is the same. Love is at the heart of the gospel message. It is essential to the work we do at Fortune Lake and the mission we share. It is out of this deep abiding love for one another that we come to you with this message... The FLLC Board of Directors came together on April 18 and unanimously voted to cancel all Summer 2020 on site and Day Camp programs and postpone the 90th celebration which was planned for August. This difficult decision was made with heavy hearts. Like many of you, our summer doesn’t feel com-plete without camp! We never envisioned this scenario. Still, we know that God is love. We trust that when we take action out of love for others, Christ’s love flows through us. All registered campers will be eligible for full refunds, which we started processing on April 28, on all of the payments submitted. This includes campership funds from congregations to be refunded. You will be contacted via email with more de-tails about refunds, including an expected timeline, within the coming days. Please be patient with us, as we are living into this change while working remotely. Email, mail, and phone messag-es are being checked daily. Further questions or concerns can be directed to Amanda at [email protected] As soon as we can safely do so, Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp will reopen.

Synod News If you haven’t taken the time, now might be the right time to check out the Northern Great Lakes Synod website.

There are tabs for covid-19 resources, daily devotions, prayer calendar, prayer requests, and resources and programs with drop downs that have much more information.

Bishop Finegan’s Easter sermon can be watched on it too. Check out the website, it has a wealth of information.

The Synod Council has determined that Synod Assembly will be postponed until May 13-15, 2021 at Finlandia University in Hancock, MI.

August 2 is the day the pavilion is reserved at Ludington Park for our church picnic. Hopefully the state will be open and

we can still have this fun, joyous, event.

The Zoo Crew Children’s Ministry

Hi Everyone, Hope this finds everyone hanging in there okay. It’s been awhile since we have seen each other, and I miss all those smiling little faces!! I know that right now things are tricky. We are trying to homeschool our children, and in some cases, using technology that we are not familiar with. I realize that this has placed a burden on parents, and I do not want to add to that burden. If you would like some religious education opportunities, and are able to do them, I will give you a couple of suggestions. When we have children’s ministry, we typically will follow what-ever the gospel lesson of the day is. It is posted in the newsletter. What I would do is find a story that goes along with that, and you can find many, many Bible stories on YouTube. I highly recommend that you watch it first, before you show it to your child. I would also try to find a craft that would go along with that, and a good resource for craft ideas is the Pin-terest website. The amount of information that you can find out there can be very overwhelming. How-ever, if you are looking for things to do and you’re able to navigate it, you will get a wealth of infor-mation. As always, you can contact me with any questions or concerns. If you’re looking for specific things to do, I can help you out, or at least point you in the right direction. Looking forward to being together again. Traci 241-6793 [email protected]

Outreach has been meeting by e-mails, phone calls, etc. during these past few weeks. They decided to send help Escanaba Public School (COID 19 Box Lunch Program.) $400 Salvation Army. $200 Jill Spencer (earmarked Masks in Delta County). $100 I’ve talked with Jill Spencer about getting masks once they have employees of businesses covered. However I am wondering if anyone who sews might consider helping out by making masks for those members that don’t sew. I can get the directions to them. I also have one of the nose pieces that they are using. Looks like just aluminum to me. Maybe some of the guys could figure out how to cut those. That way people can contributing something and give them something to do. Barb, [email protected]

Bible Verses of Encouragement and Hope

3 Praise God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! The Father is

a merciful God, who always gives us comfort. 4 He comforts us when we are in trouble, so that we can share that same

comfort with others in trouble. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

3 But that’s not all! We gladly

suffer, because we know that suffering helps us to endure.

4 And endurance builds character, which gives us a hope that will

never disappoint us. Romans 5:3-5

The Journey @ Immanuel… “Everything on earth has its own time and its own season.” Ecclesiastes 3:1 CEV “Everything must change. Nothing stays the same…” These are the lyrics to a song by George Benson an R & B singer. Change is inevitable as noted in the book of Ecclesiastes. Everything must change. Yet we yearn for things to remain as constant and balanced as possible. Living with ambiguity is unsettling. Still things change despite our desire for consistency and certainty.

The song that comes to mind for me is the song “Turn, Turn, Turn” by the Bryds… click on the link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKP4cfU28vM The song is based on the biblical text of Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 as the seasons of life change and change and change. Life it seems changes all the time as Benson says, “Nothing stays the same.” We are always living through change and this season in our lives today has captivated us amid huge change. I know some of you do not like… not only the change we are experiencing right now, but change in general. I too… am con-cerned with this change… and I live for change… I thrive on change… However, I do yearn for times of calm and peace. As the Ecclesiastes points out… There is a Time for Everything…

“Everything on earth has its own time and its own season. There is a time for birth and death, planting and reaping, for killing and healing, destroying and building, for crying and laughing, weeping and dancing, for throwing stones and gathering stones, embracing and parting. There is a time for finding and losing, keeping and giving, for tearing and sewing, listening and speaking. There is also a time for love and hate, for war and peace.”

As I try to wrap my head around what we are experiencing during the Covid 19 crisis and what God may be trying to say to us I am reminded of what Jesus’ friends might have been experiencing during the three days of suffering, cross, and resurrection. How they were handling the change they were experiencing. How Mary Magdalen felt going to the empty tomb. Jesus actually speaking to her. The friends Jesus comes upon on the road to Emmaus. Thomas… needing proof. Furthermore, how to understand Jesus’ resurrection. As I look over the landscape of what this virus is doing to us as a society, I must take pause… not only what it is doing politically, but also spiritually. Both emotions hit me hard. Both have consequences for our lives. What has been happen-ing politically has been impacting society now for decades. It is a cross we all bare on both sides as we try to discover unity. We continue to bare this cross. Spiritually… will this virus crisis create a rethinking of our morals and lives? Will the risen Jesus and the empty tomb bring a new hope and vibrant life? Crisis tends to help us reorient and rethink how we are living our lives. You have to go back to WWI… the Spanish Flu… and WWII to experience the type of spiritual disruption we are facing today. We are certainly facing a new season of life that is likely to be with us for some time. This crisis season will impact us for the foreseeable future. Life will be different. The Rev. Beverly R. Wallace, Ph.D. Associate Professor of Congregational and Community Care, Luther Seminary, was scheduled to be the speaker for the 2020 Trout Lectures, now canceled, at my alma mater, Trinity Lutheran Seminary said this…

“In this current season, a new plague is upon us. Caught off guard, even those who believe in death and resur-rection as evidenced in the story of Jesus the Christ still yearn for things to get back to normal.”

In this pandemic, everything we knew is not the same – and perhaps that’s a good thing. Spiritual, Theological, and Polit-ical understanding is changing. We’ve been talking about change, doing things differently, being innovative, but if all we really want is to redecorate, then nothing will really impact our lives to any extent. Benson serenades…“Everything must change. Nothing stays the same. Mysteries do unfold, ‘cause that’s the way of life.” And perhaps that “mystery” is the good news. Perhaps then… we will have a season for love and peace. Blessings to you and your family in this season and time of change.

“I am creating something new, there it is! Do You See It?” Isa. 43:19
