MISSION STATEMENT

The Mission Statement of the Yankton School District is to optimize student potential for

success in a global society.

BELIEF STATEMENTS

1. Education is a partnership among the community, parents, students and school personnel;

high standards are essential for this partnership to be successful.

2. The school system provides a safe educational environment, which encourages physical,

emotional, and academic growth in a culturally diverse society.

3. Learning is enhanced by a positive and supportive atmosphere, which encourages

Spanish I

Course Description: In Spanish I the student will become familiar with the basics of the

Spanish language and culture. Students will learn to speak, read, write and understand basic

spoken Spanish.

Student Evaluation Plan:

Quarter Grade: Tests 50%

Quizzes 30%

Daily Work 20%

Semester Grade Based on 50% of each quarter in that semester

QUARTER ONE

Goal One: Students will demonstrate knowledge of greetings and leave takings.

Course Description: In Spanish II the student will review concepts taught in Spanish I and

further build on knowledge of verbs, verb tenses and grammatical structures. Students will be

able to read, write and speak in the target language with correct pronunciation, intonation,

inflection and syntax.

Course Description: In Spanish III the student will review the grammar, vocabulary, and

syntactical structures of the Spanish language as well as reinforce the conversational and cultural

themes studied in Spanish I and II. The course will also analyze and discuss the concepts

presented in Spanish literature selections.

AP Spanish

Course Description: AP Spanish will offer to the fourth year foreign language student a

progressive, thorough and challenging learning situation in the use of Spanish grammar,

vocabulary, conversation and cultural themes as related to the Spanish-speaking world. The

course will encompass oral skills, reading comprehension, grammar, and composition. The

course will emphasize the use of Spanish in the AP curriculum with the following objectives:

1. The ability to comprehend formal and informal spoken Spanish;

2. The acquisition of vocabulary and a grasp of structure to allow the reading of

Spanish articles and short stories;

3. The ability to compose expository passages; and

4. The ability to express ideas with accuracy and fluency.
