Term 3
Week 9
Principal’s News
Two weeks left of Term 3. Can you believe how fast the year is flying by?
School fete: What a great afternoon, last Friday. Unfortunately
I went home sick, and I am still fighting off the dreaded lurgy.
However, everyone reports that it was a fabulous event. From
the rides to the stalls to the yummy food on offer, as well as the
awesome raffle prizes; a great time was had by all! Well done to
the fete team.
Tell them form Me Parent Surveys: On Monday, a separate note went home
with families regarding the parent survey. Please log in using the URL given on
the flyer and answer as many questions as you can about Yamba Public
School. Your responses will assist us in our 2018-2020 planning cycle. The
URL is: https://nswtellthemfromme.com/nmg47
Spelling Success: Congratulations to River for winning the Premiers Spelling
Bee. He will be off to Sydney next term for the state finals. Awesome work
River!
Life Education: Is coming soon to YPS: Healthy Harold will
be visiting Yamba Public School in the first week of next
term. Detailed information will go home in next week’s
newsletter and will be repeated next term. Classes from
Kindergarten to Year 5 will be attending at a cost of $10 per
student.
Touch Football: Well done to both teams who played great
games last Thursday. While the girls played well, they were
defeated by a stronger team. The boys, however, will be
progressing to the next round. We have not yet been notified
as to when that may be. Congratulations to the team and
their coaches.
Sport Award: Earlier this year, I nominated Mr Clifford for the 2017
Excellent Service to School Sport Award. The state-wide award recognises the
dedicated and valued service to local school sport that teachers provide. On
Monday, I presented Mr Clifford with a “Certificate of Recognition” for the
many years of service to sport at Yamba Public School. Thank you Mr. Clifford
for all that you do for our school.
Diana Foley,
Principal.
Fete 2017
WOW! How lucky were we with the amazing weather last Friday for our wonderful and very successful Annual FETE! Thanks to everyone’s efforts we raised in excess of $10 000. Which will go towards rigid shade shelters for the playground area. We have so many Thank you’s – without so many helpful people the FETE simply would not have been so successful!
We would like to thank our wonderful teachers and their students for their amazing effort with their stalls. We know that a lot of outside of school hours goes into making the stalls extra exciting and we are very grateful for all their efforts.
We would like to give a very warm thank you to our P&C committee members artists extraordinaires – Michelle and Sasha for their creative signs to the entrance of the Fete. Definitely setting a fun tone to the Fete as soon as the students entered the school on the day.
An extra special thank you to Rod for all of his help leading up to the Fete during and after the Fete and to our MC’s - Mrs Woods and Mr Bucks. Your lovely voices were greatly appreciated. We would like to thank all of those
fantastic parents that volunteered to help run rides on the Fete Day. Without all of those marvelous parents (giving up their work time) the Fete would simply not have been so successful. In fact, we simply would not have been able to run the Fete. We really appreciate it.
We would like to thank those students and parents with supporting our new ‘Buy a unlimited wristband’ idea. It was the purchase of the bands in advance of the Fete that allowed us to bring so many wonderful rides to our Fete for 2017.
Thank you to those parents whom brought a fabulous fundraiser to the FETE. Eg Monica and Jenny – your enthusiasm and special stalls were very much appreciated.
We appreciate you donating 100% of your work and effort from the day to our great school.
Our Canteen Managers, Trish and Crystie created an amazing amount of wonderful healthy food choices on the day from healthy kebabs to hamburgers – it was an amazing effort and we sincerely appreciate it. We would like to thank the students and their wonderful behavior and manners during the day of the Fete. It was a pleasure putting on a Fete for such a lovely school of students. YPS should be very proud.
Our Annual Fete Raffle was absolutely huge with some of the best prizes we have ever seen! We received amazing support from our local businesses this year. And we would like to express our appreciation to each and everyone of them. A ‘ Certificate of Appreciation’ will be going out over the coming weeks to all of those businesses that donated to our Raffle. Please see the list of our valued supporters in this newsletter.
The next P&C Meeting will not be held until the 3rd week of October, (Tuesday the 17th of October). All are welcome. Our next ‘Yamba Golf Club Raffle’ will be held on Sunday the 24th of September from 4pm. We look forward to as many families from Yamba Public School getting there as possible.

P&C NEWS
OUT AND ABOUT!
North Coast NSW
Premier's Spelling Bee
Congratulations to our 3
representatives who completed
in the North Coast Final of the Premier’s Spelling
Bee at Maclean Public School last week. River
Robinson and Emily from Stage 2 and Lucas Becker
for Stage 3 were our worthy participants. All
contestants represented our school proudly with
River taking out the Stage 2 section. He will now
compete in the state final to be held in Sydney
during November.
New South Wales Junior Chess League Semi-Final
Yesterday, four students represented our school in one of the North Coast Chess semi-
finals. Sean Sowell, Harry Close, Jack Austin and Lucas Becker played two games each
against St Joseph’s Primary School, Alstonville. At the end of the competition, each school
had won four games each, resulting in a draw. Points were then awarded according to the
weighting of the players’ positions in the team. As a result of this St Joseph’s was declared
the winner on the day and progress through to the next round. Congratulations boys for
reaching this level and the manner in which you represented your school. Thank you to
Rob Becker and Tracey Sowell for transporting the team to Alstonville. Mary Hogan
Crumbling Heart
Sadness overwhelms my entire being. Brightly coloured leaves are they only heart-
warming entity in my life. As an arrow of misery strikes my heart, I grieve with mourn-
ful and sorrowful thoughts. This sobering world is ripping me apart. How can I hold
on? My heart like a withering old man, may never beat again.

My Darkest Hour
The hour has come. Cruel thoughts overwhelm my mind. My soul crumbles to my
feet, as tears cascade down my face. How dreadful it is to think, I will never see my
loved ones again. The only true colour left in my world is my flower, as colourful as
the brightest rainbow.
