It is a fall festival of Yamanakasuwa-jinja Shrine held on Sep 4 and 5. This festival is said to have divine favor in fertility and easy delivery. It is believed that women who have touched or carried the portable shrine are promised to have easy delivery.

This festival is held at Omuro Sengen-jinja Shrine in Shimoyoshida in fall. The horseback archery in this festival differs from its traditional form, a martial art practiced by samurai. Instead, the tracks left behind by the horses are used for divinations and fortune telling.

Narusawa Harvesting Festival

There is a fireworks display every day at one of Fuji five lakes respectively between Aug 1st and 5th every year.

The parade of people in colorful Kuge costumes is held on May 17 at Motosu Yama-jinja Shrine. It has been handed down in the Motosu district for approximately 300 years. It is said to have started in order to inspire young men in the area with martial spirit during the Takeda period.

A summer festival held on August 8 which is associated with Hakkai (8 ponds). The festival has a Shinto ritual worshipping Hachidai Ryuo, and Japanese drum performance, Bon dance, Hachimonji-yaki, and laser light fireworks.

At sunrise on Jul 1, the portable shrine leaves Komitake-jinja Shrine at the 5th station of Mt. Fuji for the summit to pray for the safety of climbers. Kai-no-Katsuyama Yabusame (Horseback Archery) Festival

A two-day festival (Chinkasai on Aug 26 and Susuki Festival on Aug 27) held at the end of the Mt. Fuji climbing season to thank the gods for watching over climbers. Rows of massive torches standing 3m in height and 80cm in diameter are lit along the main street. A one ton portable shrine in the shape of Mt. Fuji is paraded through the streets. Truly spectacular!

In Edo Period when Mt. Fuji climbing by worshippers flourished, Yoshidagu-chi entrance (north entrance) was considered as the “main road” of Mt. Fuji climbing. Though typically climbers begin climbing from the 5th Station, which can be accessed by personal vehicle, many people are now challenging norms and beginning their ascent from Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen-jinja Shrine and getting a taste of Mt. Fuji's rich history along the way.

Yoshidaguchi Climbing Trail

It is the highest forest limit of Mt. Fuji at the elevation of 2,200~2,400 meters. Japanese hemlock and larch, which have endured wind and rain for a long time are trailing. The landscape is like a garden created by nature.

Climb in a slow pace and arrive at a mountain hut around the 7th~8th station by 17:00 and stay for overnight. Pray to the rising sun at a mountain hut next morning. The rising sun is just as beautiful as the summit. If you are not particularly concerned about the rising sun at the summit, this plan is recommended because it will easy for your body with enough sleep.

A lot of riding clubs offer lessons for beginners and children in Fujigoko area. There are various riding menus from lessons in the riding ground to riding outside in nature.

Speaking of black bass fishing, Lake Kawaguchiko is the place. It is one of the best fishing spot where nationwide competition is held. There is a dedicated area for fly-fishing. Lake Saiko and Lake Motosuko are famous for very rare fish “Himemasu.” Late fall to the early spring is the season for Wakasagi smelt. In Lake Yamanakako, on-ice fishing can be enjoyed in the year when temperature is cold enough. Also, Lake Shojiko is the best spot for Herabuna carp fishing in the Kanto region.

Located at the foot of Japan’s symbol, “Mt. Fuji,” at approximately 900 meter elevation. Fujiyoshida’s local specialty “Yoshida Udon” is served at the restaurant. At the local product shop, textile products, the primary industry in the region, local produce and vegetation are sold. It is recommended to stop by as a base for Fuji Five Lakes sightseeing.

A trail leading to the summit of Mt. Fuji, which starts from Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen-jinja Shrine. Temple lodgings had started to be built by the latter part of the fourteenth century, and the trail was made to accommodate large numbers of climbers.

At the summit, religion related facilities such as shrines are dotted along the crater wall. With the start of worship climbing to Mt. Fuji, religious acts at the summit was systemized along with the construction of temples and the contribution of Buddhist statues. Praying to the “rising sun” at the summit and “Ohachimeguri” which one goes around the summit eight times, are still performed today by many mountain climbers.

Originating from the worship of Sengen Omikami, enshrined in Yohaisho, Torii gate for “Mt. Fuji” was built in 1480 and main building of Sengen-jinja Shrine was completed by middle of the sixteen century.

History says that it is the first Asama-jinja which was constructed on the northern side of Mt. Fuji after the eruption in the latter part of the ninth century. Sacred trees, Nanahonsugi (large seven cedar trees), are also well-known.

11There are eight spring water lakes of Mt. Fuji spring water. Hachidai Ryuo is enshrined at each of eight lakes as a place of pilgrimage associated with Mt. Fuji worship. Pilgrims purified themselves with the water.

Hasegawa Kakugyo found a cave at the northern foot of Mt. Fuji at his mountain pilgrimage in 1617 and enshrined Asama-no-ookami. In 1673, current Funatsu Lava Tree Mold was found by Fujiko.

13In 1892, Yoshida Lava Tree Mold was maintained as the new “Otainai”. Konohana Sakuyahimeno Mikoto is worshiped in the cave. It is not open to public.

In large lava field created by flowing lava at great eruption of Mt. Fuji, there are 100 kinds of plants such as moss, maple tree, and ferns. It is also a treasury of animals including wild birds and deer. Stay only along the Aokigahara Jukai walking trail when strolling.

Designated natural treasures. The cavern was created after lava flowed, and the wall is covered by ice. Groundwater of Mt. Fuji leaked from the ceiling during winter creates natural icicles and ice pond.

☎0555-85-2300A lava cave with the total length of longer than 350 meters, and the cave wall maintains its original state since the lava stalactite surface was developed. The cave is known for a hibernaculum for bats since it is warm even in winter and does not freeze unlike many of the other caves.

Located in Shimoyoshida district. Since the ancient times, people have prayed the safety of people living in the area. At Yabusame Festival held every September, fortunes of the coming year are determined by horseshoe prints. In Koshogatsu (small New Year), there is also a festival called Tsutsugayu Festival which tells the number of Mt. Fuji climbers who will visit Mt. Fuji.

There is the grave of Tamaki Miura who was highly renowned throughout the world as a great opera singer in the early Showa period.
