YA Peer Leaders is an intervention which aims to:
‘Increase the activity levels of the least active youngpeople through the delivery of
inclusive, engaging activity led by YoungAmbassador Peer Leaders’

Programme Outline
• 10 peer leaders deliver 12 sessions of physical activity to 10 peers/younger students (100 participants in total)
• Participants should be identified due to their lack of engagement in the PE and School Sport offer and not meeting the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) physical activity requirements of 60 minutes per day

What does the research tell us (Girls Active)?
• Only 15% of girls aged 17 – 18 take part in at least 3 hours of PE and school sport each week compared to 68% of girls aged 10-14
• By age 14, just under 10% of girls achieve
the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity per day
• 51% of less active girls say PE and sport
put them off being physically active
