Y3 Learning pack – Week 13 (13/7/20) Summer term
Hello Year 3!
You’ve made it! Although it is not the ending to Year 3 we would have hoped for, we have loved teaching you all this year and we are going to miss you dearly. You have all been amazing during this time and you will be able to look back at this in years to come and remember how different things were. Think back to all the wonderful things you have done throughout this time, not just completing the home learning packs.
This is your final home learning pack to keep you busy. As before, you have five maths
activities, three English activities, three reading activities and a creative task. You can print
off this booklet or just complete the work on paper. This is your pack so you can use it
however you like. Remember your grown-ups are busy working too and some may have
even had to go back to work, so why not see how you get on with these tasks on your own.
Your grown-ups, and we, will be super impressed by your independence.
We have included some activities looking back at all the wonderful things we have done in
Year 3 this year and our fascinating topics
Food Glorious Food
Predator or Prey
How does your garden grow?
What makes the Earth angry?
With all of the changes, we are missing you all even more. Please tweet us your work, whether it is from these packs or just anything you get up to. We feel very proud when we see what work you have been doing at home. It definitely makes our day!
Stay safe and happy!
Love Miss Pillar, Mrs Barrett and Miss Steele
P.S. If you have forgotten your Times Tables Rockstars login, ask your grown up to either
email or ring school to get it.

Writing task 1 – Letter
This week we would like you to introduce yourself to your new teacher by writing them a letter all about yourself.
You might want to include some of these ideas
Name
Birthday
Favourite colour or food
Who you live with
Your family members
What you are good at
What your favourite hobbies are
Who your friends are
What you would like to be when you grow up
If you would like to write a letter to another member or staff at Carfield you can send them to us and we will share them with that member of staff.
Writing task 2 – Persuasive poster for Y3
Now that you’re Year 3 experts, we would like you to plan a persuasive poster to persuade the Year 2 children that Year 3 is amazing.
You can present this how you would like a couple of ideas – poster or leaflet.
Have a think about what you would include in a persuasive poster:
Rhetorical question
Superlatives and comparatives Comparative – compare to one other thing e.g. bigger Superlative – used to compare to all others in the same category e.g. biggest
Emotive language – to make the reader feel something
Pictures Remember to make it bright and colourful as it needs to stand out.
Writing task 3 – Recount
We would like you to think back to all the wonderful things we have done this school year,
the topics we have covered are
Food Glorious Food
Predator or Prey
How does your garden grow?
What makes the Earth angry?
We have been on two amazing trips this year to Yorkshire Wildlife Park and Magna.
In class we have looked at lots of exciting stories such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,
The Enchanted Wood and The Lost Happy Endings.
We have completed lots of amazing art work – observational drawings, using water colours
and oil pastels and looking at the famous artist Vincent Van Gogh
We have had a go at baking, making our own fair cakes and delicious pasta dishes. We’ve
even made our own flower pots!
Could you write a recount of your favourite activity or day. Remember it needs to be in the
past tense and include time adverbials.
Year 3 and 4 Statutory Spelling List
Whilst we are not sending spelling activities home, we thought it would be useful to attach
a list of the spellings that the children focus on throughout year 3 and 4.
There are many fun ways to practice spellings, each week we will give you a couple of
suggestions to try at home.
This week to practice your spellings you could:
Jumping Jack Words
Do jumping jacks as you spell each word – 1 jump for each letter.
Break It Up
Write each word by writing each syllable in a different colour.
his – to – ry
Maths tasks Here you will find a range of maths activities.
As we haven’t covered everything this year we are moving away from the videos on the white rose as these cover areas we have not taught in school this
year. You could still watch them if you wanted to!
The activities are from still from White Rose Maths that we use at school. This week we are looking at money.
Work can be printed off for you to work on, or you can look at the questions on the screen and complete your work on a piece of paper. Do whatever works
best for you. The answers for each task can be found at the end of this document
