I want to take the time to say THANKS to everyone that suppor-ted us in the launching of our community magazine. This magazine is important for several reasons. 1. It provides our internal members the national platform to showcase and build support for their busi-nesses, events, and outreach. 2. It is how we build revenue to fund our community initiatives such as the Book My Future Scholarship and Backpack 2 Briefcase, these are amongst a few of the many activities that Xcellence is contributing to. 3. It is our way of keeping our mem-bers excited and updated on the many collaborations and inspirational stories of success that affirms that this is not just another non-profit organization, trend, or fad temporarily passing through, but we are an organization that is building a solid infrastructure and legacy for many years to come.

I am most proud of this issue, because it represents our SONS & DAUGHTERS that have reached a monumental phase of their life as they prepare for their upcoming graduations the latter of April and throughout the month of May. These young individuals have no doubt faced many challenges, peer-pressure, thoughts of giving up, and thin-king if this day would ever come. Therefore, we do not take it lightly what this accomplishment means to them. Join me in saying CONGRA-TULATIONS TO THE CLASS OF 2013 HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGIATE GRATES, Xcellence is proud of you and will continuously support you as you embark upon the next great journey of your lives.

The flowers are blooming and Spring is in the air! It’s also a time of reflection for

packaging the old and reflecting the new. Opportunities to meditate on our own personal lives, gives us the chance to re-affirm, re-adjust, or re-align, where we are and where we are going. Never take for granted that each and everyday is a precious gift, sent from the Lord above, to serve. Xcellence is excited about the movement! We have held several community events, most notable, our introduction of Xcellence in Everett WA, during the “Bringing Communities Togeter” fair. Our membership is growing and the vision and mission of our organi-zation is impacting lives. Be sure to read our community to stay abreast of Xcellence activities, partnerships and collaborations. I pray that you enjoy reading this issue and join me in celebrating our future leaders of tomorrow: Sons & Daughters of Xcellence.

Spring time is here! Its hard to believe that we have entered the second quarter of 2013. For most people, this is the time that we start thinking about spring clean-

ing and making plans for the upcoming summer months. Xcellence is very committed to finding ways in which we can reach out and be a blessing to our communities.

I encourage you to think of ways that you and your friends and family can be a blessing to your

community. There is usually a great deal of yard work that needs to be done as the weather transitions from winter to spring. Is there perhaps an elderly neighbor that could use some help with spring cleaning or yard work? Or maybe you could find out if your city has any initiatives in place to help certain neighborhoods with clean up or restoration. There is always something that we can do to be a help to others. As the co-founder of Xcellence, I challenge you to set a goal of reaching out and finding ONE way that you can do something impactful to make a dif-ference in your community.

Email me at [email protected] to let me know what you did and the impact that it had not only on the commu-nity but how it impacted you as well. We at Xcellence would love to hear how you made a difference in the lives of others. Remember to allow the Xcellence of our King to shine forth in all that you do!

Modeling Community Outreach in the Most Miraculous Way!

Mayor Jerry Gist along with Monique Merri-weather, City of Jack-son TN Neighborhood

Services Director and Women of Xcellence President, introduces and coordinates the cities latest initiative to unite the community and create heroes the entire month of April. Like Gotham City and Metropolis, the city of Jackson now has its very own superstar hero sworn to make the community a bet-ter place. He calls himself Miracle Man and has been spotted around Jackson performing acts of kind-ness through volunteering. Miracle Man has met with the Mayor of the city, Jerry Gist. After teaching the Mayor all about the wonders of volunteering, together, they have

formulated a plan to bring unity to our community. Month of Miracles is the key component of their plan. Month of Miracles, strives to make he-roes out of everyday citizens in the Jackson community through acts of volunteerism. By match-ing individuals with a volunteer action suited to their personality, the Jackson community will be strengthened, one act of kindness at a time. The ultimate goal of this event is to assist in the betterment and uniting of the Jackson com-munity for future generations. As our Co-Founder Audra Buchanan stated, “There is always something we can do to help oth-ers.” Anybody can help the com-munity with volunteer projects in a variety of ways. People volunteer

for many different causes, but they all have common goals. They want to help people, the community, and future genera-tions. Volunteering is an oppor-tunity to share your skills, build your resume, make new friends, and get to know your commu-nity. Why not model what the City of Jackson is doing in your community? If you’re in the City of Jackson and would like more information regarding the Month of Miracles or would like to duplicate this effort in a commu-nity near you, please feel free to email: [email protected] or visit the website at: miraclesinjackson.com.

the

fActorwhAt leAdership needs to Know

Leadership can be a powerful word yet one that may also come

with a false sense of security, depending on how empower-ing a leader can be. First you have to ask yourself, what I need to successfully leader those who follow. Have you ever experienced being in a room full of people and find

that you are not able to get any responses that will settle your questions? There are two very powerful words in our vocabulary that we as leaders seem to ignore and those two simple words are; “I Need”. Think about those two words for a moment, “I Need” and what they imply. “I need”; does this imply weakness; un-fulfillment; a lack of direction; or do you view these two words as a part of success? Every individual needs something and yet so many individuals go throughout their journey in life with-out that need or their needs being fulfilled. Why? Because they do not understand the power behind those two words! Most of our life we are taught that if we want something we must ask for it. Children learn to say, “I want” at a very early age and

continue with that “I want” statement throughout their life. Again! We all want for something, I want to be rich and famous, but that does not mean I need to be.Recognize exactly what you need as a leader to be successful and then ask for it. As successful leaders we need knowledge, understanding, flexibility, wis-dom, loyalty, and the ability to understand how to get others to follow our paths. We need to recog-nize our strengths as well as our weaknesses and we need the ability to admit when we lack these com-mon assets. No one likes failure, but if we lack the ability to own up to our own mistakes as leaders we are not setting great examples, so we must learn to ask for what we lack or “need” in order to become empowering! So the next time you go to your team members and ask for assistance; “don’t say I want”, say “I need”. Remember one thing: “If we choose to change the world we must first change the light within our-selves”. How we deliver our words everyday can help deliver the change that we desire to see.

This issue I would like to talk about Endur-ance and what is takes to Endure for every person of Xcellence. So many times people get weary and give up on the

journey. My advice to you is to never quit. Don’t let anyone discourage you. I know sometimes that can be a hard pill to swal-low, but it’s true. Stay in the fight and be strong. You are not alone. There are some people who have had to endure many things but yet they held on to the promise that they shall reap it they don’t faint (Galatians 6:9). They never gave up. They kept the faith until the end. This is what endurance is all about. It is staying in the race and never letting go.Last year, I participated in my very 1st marathon. There were many women in our group who started out with us. Most were in excellent shape and they’ve worked out for several years. So as I looked all around, I began to feel intimidated because some of these women were far more experienced and better in shape than me. I soon began to ask myself, are you sure you can do this? I mean yes this was after all only walking marathon, I said to myself; but this was 26.2 miles we were talking about for heav-en’s sake. My nerves began to get out of control. Then this word came to my mind and spirit. It was the word Endure. I had soon realized that I trained up until this very moment and I wanted to finish the course. When the marathon began at 4am, I took off walking strong with confidence and my faith and courage began to build. I told myself that “I Can.” I now believed. About 15 miles into the walk, I began experiencing weariness and fatigue. My legs and feet were in pain, and I began doubting again whether or not I would be able to finish. I began to think of all of the reasons to quit. Again, I reassured myself to be strong and only

courageous. I continued on with a focused mind. When I got to mile marker 25, I was now on the home stretch, and I thought that I would receive my second wind but I never did. Mile 25 was probably my hardest mile because everything within my body told me to QUIT. Imagine being so close to your goal or dream only to abort your mission. I pressed my way. I refused to throw in the towel or quit. I had come too far.I am thankful to God that I completed my first marathon and I did it age 42. Not all of the women who started out with our group finished. But I do commend them for trying and giving it their all. I was a determined woman. To God be the glory. Whatever your plans or goals you have set in life, stick to it. You can do all things through Christ that

strengthens you (Philippians 4:13). I am so happy that I did not abort my mission. Now I seek to accomplish more things this year and for years to come. Whatever God has given you to do is what you can handle and it may not always be an easy task. But endure; be persistent and confident. Press your way through it and to it.

how do You xperience A life of xcellence?

Founder, Angella Banks, speaks to the Leading Ladies of Clarksville TN (Founder, Treva Gordon), in Downtown

Nashville at the beautiful historic Hermitage Hotel. She shares her formula for “Xperiencing Xcellence” 3 ways:

Through a state of TRANSFORMATION, ac-cepting seasons in your life of shiftingThrough a state of RENEWING, accepting seasons of newness in your lifeThrough a state of POSSESSION, accepting a season of ownership for who you are and

whose you are

On January 26, 2013, Ms. LaCita Mason made his-tory for Xcellence by launching our 1st Chap-ter in Nashville TN. A quaint and serene mood

filled the atmosphere as small and start-up businesses networked and established friendships for life. As one business owner stated, “I’ve attended numerous net-working events in Nashville and this one is by far one of the nicest that I’ve attended. In addition, I’m see-ing new faces and not the same circle in which I see at every event.” This statement alone speaks volumes to the unique niche of small and start-up businesses within our community that has never been approached or has not touched. This is one of the many things that make Xcellence Inc. one of the fastest growing community or-ganizations of today. Dedicating their efforts to serving leaders and businesses by providing a hub for collabora-tions, programs, activities, and events. What happened in Nashville will become a common story for Xcellence as it focuses its attention on expansion throughout the United States in both cities and rural communities abroad. Founder & President, Angella Banks states, “We are a Movement & We are Making a Difference!” Special Thanks to LaCita Mason and Jacqueline Knight for mak-

ing this day a memorable one for Xcellence!

Owner of ShakeitLatinStyle Fitness Club and Professional Dancer, Rosella “Rosie” Hardy shares her excitement with students as they read her previously published article from the first edi-

Xcellence, Inc. is overly excited to introduce to our communi-

ties, Mrs. Nedra Ball. She has been a long-time sup-porter of Xcellence since 2008. Sales and Marketing is an important aspect of any business or organiza-tion, but most important to non-profits charged with the task of doing good deeds with very limited capital. With a passion for

the community and over 15 years of Financial Services experi-ence, specializing in insurance sales and marketing, makes her new role even more meaningful. Per Nedra, “I was intrigued by the Xcellence vision and mission from the moment I was introduced to the company, and now with the opportunity to share my talents and aid in the growth of making Xcellence a household and community name, is an honor to me.” Nedra resides in Daytona Beach, FL with her husband Au-gustus Ball and is a mother of 3. In conjunction with her new role at Xcellence, Inc., Mrs. Ball is also the CEO of Ball Marketing & Associates, a marketing firm that she established five years ago. Her professional education was obtained from Warner University where she obtained a Bachelors degree in Business Administration with a minor in Marketing. Ms. Ball is currently attending Liberty University, pursuing her M.B.A. “Having tal-ent such as Nedra, affirms to me that Xcellence is armored and equipped with the right leadership team to carry forth its mission of developing Xcellence Communities abroad,” shared Founder & President, Mrs. Angella Banks.

Jacqueline joined the Xcellence leadership team in 2011 as the KY/TN Regional Coordinator and since that time, she has been a committed and devoted supporter of

the company. Her dedicated service to the U.S. Army as a Logistician, Xcellence, and her community only made it appropriate for her to head up this important role. With an expected graduation date of December 2013 as a Doctoral of Business Administration with a specialization in Marketing, proves that this young lady is disciplined in her studies and ensuring that Xcellence is adhering to its commitment to the people and communities in which it serves. Congratulations Jackie!

Ms. LaCita Mason is a native of Clarksville, TN where she attended Middle Tennessee State University and Austin Peay State University

Culinary School. She is the mother of one daughter, Ms. Chloe Mason, currently attends Middle Tennes-see State University in Murfreesboro Tennessee. “ She’s my heart and soul and keeps me motivated to do all that I do, Lacita advises.” She is the owner of Balanced Body Meals, a company that was envi-sion as a youth while Lacita learned to cook from her Famous Grandma Peete as she laughs and calls her name. I was a young girl always asking ques-tions and watching what she was doing. It grew into the love and passion that I have now for giv-ing my customers something tasty, different, and healthy everytime I prepare a meal. LaCita recalls a simple Facebook inbox message from Xcellence Founder, Angella Banks as being a divine one. I have been a friend of Xcellence Inc. on Facebook for quite some time and was very impressed by the professionalism and information

that was shown there. One day Angella invited me on a private conference call and advised with me that she loved my spirit and was exactly what she was looking for in a Chapter President. I was much honored, and at this stage in my life as I viewed it as a God send. It meant the world to me to be in a leadership position, directly centered in sharing with others an organization in which I feel is destined for GREATNESS! Little did I know that within just few months of accepting my new role within Xcellence that I would have the opportunity to lead in a much greater capacity? In addition to that, just a few weeks ago, I would embrace entrepreneurship 100%. I have prayed and to God for guidance and the ability to trust what he brings forth in my life. 2013 has moved expeditiously with grace and favor. My business clientele has more than doubled and I am encouraged to stay steadfast in the journey ahead. I want to THANK XCELLENCE for it’s connection in my life and share with others to Never give up! If God’s gives you a gift, he will make room for it. Lend a hand to others, it will bless your life greatly, and know that everything you go through is not for you it’s for you to bless someone else. If you need to get in touch with LaCita, she can be reached via email at: www.balanced-bodymeals.com.

J Whaley

J Whaley is most notably known for being a singer but his musi-cal talents extend past the old

school microphone that he melodi-ously uses to produce his soulful yet bluesy sound. J is also a songwriter, producer, actor and model. He is a native of Blytheville, Arkansas but has made his home in Nashville, Tn. Being the youngest of 3 children and the son of a pastor, musical and spiritual grassroots run deep throughout his family. He started playing drums in his father’s church at the age of five and sang in the church choir. In junior high he sang in the school choir and joined a rock band called the Chim-punx. His senior year in high school J was apart of a contemporary gos-pel group called Christianality. Music truly runs deep in his blood but he is very big on academics as well as athleticism and being physically fit.

J Whaley graduated Magna Cume Laude from Lane College in Jackson, Tn with a degree in Business Man-agement. He was apart of the 2005 SIAC Conference Champion Win-ning Basketball Team at the power forward position. He later received his Master’s Degree from Tennessee State University in Education.

J’s style has grown over the years to what he classifies as “New School” R&B/Soul with a little “Old School” sound of Blues. He continues to ex-pand and master his craft through music and several different instru-ments. He plays drums, keyboard and has recently added the acoustic and electric guitar to his repertoire of instruments. Not only does he have a love for mu-sic he also has a BIG HEART and love for children. how cAn You

in Your communitY?Make A Difference

How can you make a differ-ence in your community…By being a mentor. Be-ing a mentor allows you to

brighten the life of someone else. Our youth need positive role models who are working to build up their com-munities. Our youth are the young leaders of TODAY who need positive guidance from those around them. Take the time to encourage others, teach new skills, and volunteer in your community. The difference you can make, in the lives of others, is end-less. When we stop to look at the needs of someone else it helps us to fulfill our mission from Christ to love one another. Help our youth see the possibilities in today, have hope for tomorrow, and dreams for a life time. We, at Xcellence, help our sons and daughters of Xcellence to realize their potential to become great commu-nity leaders and carry on the legacy of service of those who have come before them. Are you making a differ-ence in the world around you?

What are you working on? Is your church preparing for a big event? Are you working on a new sermon series? Did something great happen? Did God speak to you in a fresh way today? Use Twitter to share many short thoughts throughout the day.

Try to leave enough room in your tweet for someone to be able to easily retweet it.• For example, “RT @roacpro:” is 13 characters. So we try to leave at least 13 extra spaces in our tweets so that someone can simply click the RT button and post without having to cut

anything out.• Use hashtags (#) and mentions (@) to draw people’s attention to your tweets. If you are tweeting about any public person, theme, book, or anything, there is almost certainly a hashtag that will allow anyone following that thing to automatically see your tweet. Perform a search on Twitter for it, and you will be able to see what the hashtag or username.• If you begin a tweet with a mention (@), it will be semi-private so that only people who are following both you and the user mentioned will be able to see it. Unless that is your intention, rephrase your sentence so it does not begin with the name, or just put a punctuation mark in front of the @ to allow it to be seen by the public.• Use Twitter intentionally to augment your worship services by tweeting out the theme and some food for thought beforehand. Let people know what Scriptures to read and what to be thinking about before they come. Then. Follow up afterward with more discussion questions and things to think about. • For the more technologically-advanced, you can even incorporate Twitter into your wor-ship services by allowing people to tweet their thoughts and questions during the service. Also. a pastor or church leader could tweet out discussion questions that people tweet their replies to. Read the example below to see how one church does this very well.• If you want to do something like this, make sure your church’s wireless Internet connection has enough strength and bandwidth to be able to handle that much traffic at one time. You do not want people distracted and frustrated at the failure of the technology. With the tremendous connectedness of the global world, the church is no longer confined to its own geographical address. Churches can use online resources to reach people all around the world. If you need assistance visit www.cuttingedgeweb.us for great resources. While remembering that the church’s end goal is always real, offline relationships, it is still better for a person to hear the Gospel and receive loving care from a Christian online than not at all right?

mArcusAnd the “triple d effect”

Xcellence is proud to showcase one of it’s very own Sons of Xcellence. Mr. Marcus Isaac is the son of Co-

Founder and Vice-President of Xcellence, Audra Buchanan and Mr. Michael Isaac Sr. Over the years, I have watched this young leader blossom into the handsome man he is today. We give him accolades not only because he is one of ours, but because he deserves it. Like many of our youth today, Marcus faced challenges of identifica-tion and finding his place in life, like many others. He is the love of his mother’s life! Struggling as a single mother to give him the best and teach him Godly values, she can stand today to say that being a friend, confidant, and a mother definitely pays off. We titled this article, the “Triple D Effect” because that is what comes in mind as we introduce this humble young man to our Xcellence Communities and youth abroad. Although, he could’ve given up, he stayed DETERMINED to finish the course. Mr. Isaac is DRIVEN to be a better man by doing what is right and pushing forward to reach his dreams, regardless of how difficult they may seem, and lastly, we believe he is DESTINED to reach success! Success in measured in many ways, wealth, health, sound mind, body, and soul. See, as young and talented as this young man is, he has already reached a level of SUCCESS in his life. Of course, he would love to pursue his athletic career beyond college in the NBA, and we stand in agreement with him that every wish he desires will come true, however…….Mr. Isaac has exemplified a trait that others may never experience in life and that is exercising his FAITH to believe that if you just stay focused, keep your eye on the prize, you’ll always be rewarded in life with GREATNESS!

was ninth in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage at .455, 36th in the nation in 3-point field goals per game with 2.4, and 49th in overall field goal percentage at .504. He is one of 71 players on the All-America list. With all of these many tributes and acco-lades, this young man remains humble when asked, how does it feel? He states, “It’s an honor. I’m happy to be noticed, but again the credit goes to my teammates for being behind me 100 percent,” Isaac said. “They are the reason I am able to do the things I am capable of doing and get an award like this.” None of this success happened to Isaac by chance, he worked hard and understood that certain behaviors predicts certain outcomes. Since this young athlete’s high school years at Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he was part of Class 4A Indiana State Champion-ship, he has continued to pride himself on where he’s going and not where he’s been. We have a gut feeling that you have not seen nor heard the last of Mr. Marcus Isaac on the athletic basketball scene. Marcus, in honor of your mother and the entire Xcel-lence family, we are so proud of you and your accomplishments and pray for much continued success on your behalf! Con-gratulations

Today I want to talk about being yourself. By being yourself, you will have friends who will love you for you and have your back forever-more.That’s one benefit but we’re going to talk about a few more!If you are yourself, you will be confident in yourself. Instead of being insecure, you will love yourself more than you ever had.I’ll leave you with some words that I say to my-self when feeling a little blue. This little poem is written by Dr.Seuss: Today you are you that’s truer than trueThere’s no one alive that’s youer than you Hope my article gave you some confidence and remember to love yourself too!

We are all targets for phone scammers regardless of our race, age or gender. Although you may have registered with

the “Do Not Call Registry”, this does not prevent scammers from contacting you. Scammers may represent themselves as your bank, your credit card company or a government agency; they al-ready have your personal information so asking for it should be a red flag to you. Review the following scams and don’t become a scammer’s next victim:

•Scammers may say you have won a prize or money; then ask you to wire money to them for processing and delivery fees – scam alert. (If you actually won money, they can take the fees out up front)•Scammers will send you a check in the mail and in-struct you to cash the check and send them a por-tion of it – scam alert. (The check is fake and once you deposit it into your account, you are respon-sible when there is insufficient funds to cover it)

No matter how legitament the check looks or how professional or friendly the caller may sound over the phone, never let your guard down. Remember, when someone asks you for personal information over the phone, this is information they should already have, hang up and report it to your local law enforcement agency. Getting the word out to the public will help prevent someone else from being scammed. Let’s work together to reduce the chance of becoming a scammers next victim.

whAt is A mArKetinG plAn & whY Your business needs one?

By nedra Ball vice President of Sales & Marketing, Xcellence inc.

The business document that is written to define the terms of engagement with the potential customers and describe

the current market position of a business and its strategies related to marketing for a spe-cific period is known as the marketing plan. It is widely used to determine who will be af-fected by the changes brought in the shape of new marketing strategies and what concerns are most likely to arise from each group. How-ever, it is always best advised to emphasize on the positive outcomes that your organization would get because of the proposed changes. You would find that the successful firms always tend to start with the marketing plan. Such companies make plans consisting of hun-dreds of pages and their basic purpose is to show a clear path of strategies that could be used in order to achieve the business market-ing objectives. The Marketing plan plays a sig-nificant role in bringing all your market research together so you could take important and ef-fective steps in order to work out where your business is headed and how exactly it is going to get there.

There are three types of audiences involved:

1. External users: The customers or users who are using the product or service and could easily be divided into target groups and mar-ket segments. 2. Internal users: Workers, employees and pro-fessionals of the institutions are included as the internal users. 3. Providers: The producers of the mate-rial, financial and personnel resources needed to implement the process. The administra-tive personnel and the national leadership of facilities also take part in the implantation of the changes through the strategic and political decision-making. After determining your audience, you need to analyze the types of audience you have by determining:o What positive outcomes and benefits you could expect out of the changes? o What could be the possible disadvantages that might occur because of the changes? o What costs would be involved? Design the message: Based on the market segmentation, you need to cater to all your users differently depending on their needs and concerns. If you want to increase sales of your product and/or services then it is important that you emphasize on the positive outcomes and benefits that could be obtained out of it by developing a promotional strategy. You need to choose a proper communication medium, place and time in order to transmit the message. Mass Communication (television, radio, posters, websites, social media (Twitter, Facebook, Linked In, etc.); and Interactive per-sonal communication (Seminars & Interviews); By now, you may be asking yourself, why is having a Marketing Plan so important? Well the main reason is that the marketing plan acts as a guide to promote and grow your business. If you have prepared an effec-tive marketing plan then you would be able to answer and resolve any problem regarding your business. Moreover, you would also get a deep insight of how you need to position your organization in a market and what neces-

sary steps you could take to differentiate your company from competitors and gain competi-tive advantage. Where and how to advertise and what should be your sales goals and ob-jectives are also defined in a marketing plan. Marketing plans play an important role in moni-toring and keeping a track of the marketing strategies of the company for a particular product or service. By making use of a mar-keting plan, owners or management make sure that the strategies that have been made are being implemented in a proper manner. The company could also get a fair idea of how well a particular product or service is doing and if an improvement is required then it would provide a proper guide of how the marketing strategy should be revised further. You could also make the marketing plan a part of the business plan and if you really want an effective and helpful plan then it is important that you create strong strategies for your product or services. If you have defined all the required actions in the marketing plan you have created, but didn’t mention anything regarding strategies then your plan would be useless. A good and effective marketing plan would help you to save money by leaving out all the unnecessary expenses and providing you with new marketing opportunities. If you have successfully created a useable marketing plan, then you would get a fair idea that whatever activities are being undertaken under the roof of an organization, are being done accord-ing to the budget and your marketing drive is reaching your target audience. However, if you fail to design an effective marketing plan, then you will not be able to take full advantage of all the means that you could have in order to reach your target audience and as a result of this, your company would have to face loss due to the rapid decrease in the sales. There-fore, you should always design a marketing plan that is meant to reach your target mar-ket and ensure that it focuses more on the consumer rather than the products or services being offered.

x celebrAtes educAtionAl leAdershipGettinG to Know lAuren I grew up in a suburb of Memphis, TN called Bartlett with my wonderful family, in what I have always called a dollhouse. =) It was a yellow house, with a huge porch and swing. The memories of living there always bring a smile to my face. My parents, who have been married for over 40 years and my two older sisters are absolutely everything to me. Family, for as long as I can remember, has been a center point in my life; there is constant laughter whenever we are together. My parents inspire me every day. Marriage is no piece of cake, but they have always shown me that hard work and compro-mise are vital in keeping your marriage fair and loving. I am extremely lucky to have just married Robert, who is equally in love with his family. I could not be more lucky.

mY hobbies My main hobby is running, it is my stress relief. =) I have also played the piano since I was 6, so I like to sit down and see what I can still play. This will be my first summer off, which is exciting, but I know I need to keep myself busy! I am going to try a painting class.

mY GoAls & Ambitions

My future goals are to have a family of my own. I want to become the role model my parents were for me to my children. A goal of mine every day is to learn more effective strategies I can use to make my classroom more successful. Teaching is so, incredibly challenging and

there is always room for improvement. I always want to try new ways to pres-ent material or ways for my children to become better problem solvers. Every lesson I teach brings challenges and I never end one without thinking of ways to improve it. Teachers need to learn WITH their students! In the future, I could see myself pursu-ing my doctorate and possibly teaching future educators of the world!

did i choose teAchinG or did teAchinG choose me? I have not always wanted to be a teacher, but I’ve known I have wanted to work with children. My undergrad was in Psychology and I had intentions of pursuing my masters in counseling; however, this changed when I thought about my third grade teacher. This teacher has been another major inspira-tion in my life, I remember EVERYTHING we did in her classroom and how much I loved being around her. As I was think-ing about my career choice, I realized I wanted to be “that teacher” to other children. I wanted kids to love coming to school and to build memories in my classroom every day. This teacher made learning an adventure; I loved it so much I had to ask for more work! The thought of becoming this major role model to children every day brought a smile to my face. Children need to come to school with excitement and eagerness to learn, and they need a positive person to be around. That is exactly what I strive for every day. I had the honor of working with my third grade teacher last year at my elementary school. What made my year was seeing things that I remember her doing. It inspires me every day to be the best teacher I can possibly be.

Teaching provides you with a new adventure every day, and with those ad-ventures brings many memorable experi-ences. What motivates me every day is seeing children’s faces light up when they figure something out or learn something new. Watching my students learn is a constant inspiration. They are so enthu-siastic about learning, which motivates me to make it even more fun for them. I try to think of new strategies I can use to introduce and teach new concepts, be-cause seeing them enjoy learning brings out their curiosity even more. That is the beauty of children; they are so curious and willing to learn. My favorite question in my classroom is, “why?”. The fact that I am teaching our future is the coolest thing in the world! My Inspirational Words

To the youth of today, never stop when you simply feel comfortable; strive for more. Challenge yourself because, without these hardships, you will never grow and become the stronger person you were meant to be.

i belieVe in x What makes Xcellence so great is the support and commitment of teamwork to simply help individuals better themselves. I think this generosity can get lost in the busy world we live in today. We need to remember that there is a whole world around us. By supporting and giving back to the communities we live in, how can it not strengthen the people, families, and businesses?

Although this was a very demanding time during my college experience, I must say it has made me a pro-found woman and helped to build my work ethic skills. Attending college gives students a higher education, which ensures a more prom-ising future. Along the way, I met life-long friends and got an opportunity to explore new cities and new people. Going to college helps you gain a sense of independence and learn who you are. It will open your eyes to a new world of opportunities and you can become whatever it is you aspire to be.”In her closing statement, Ms. Perry reflects back on meeting Founder and President of Xcellence, Inc., Mrs. Angella Banks, and shares that she was her business professor while at-tending Lane College. “She has been a mentor and idol of mine since my encounter with her. The love that she has for God and her business has pushed me to better myself spiritually and professionally. She has taught me the ins and outs of the business world that I will continue to use throughout my journey in life. I am for-ever thankful for the personal and business values Mrs. Banks has instilled in me. To be acknowledged as a Daughter of Xcellence is a privilege and honor.
