Flexible Solution for Carrier-Grade VoIP Traffic Management
MVTS Pro is a next generation Class 4 softswitchwith session border controller functionality.MVTS Pro's main job includes collection, switching and transcoding of VoIP traffic, management of signaling and media datastreams and border access control.
MVTS Pro is a comprehensive system designed toefficiently handle big amounts of IP telephonytransit across the carrier's network.
MERA VoIP Transit Softswitch Professional (MVTS Pro)
MVTS Pro
The solution delivers the followingbenefits:
High level of integration into the existingnetwork infrastructure thanks to a RADIUSinterfaceDistributed modular architectureUnlimited capacity growth Geographic redundancy and flexiblelicense distribution

Functionality Overview
Intrinsic and external routing:The MVTS Pro intrinsic routing mechanismallows a variety of traffic direction policies based on a diversity of parameters (ASR,gateway/route load, day of week, time of day, etc.) External routing is ensured by the RADIUSAPI which interfaces with third-party routingand billing systems.
Flexible approach to proxy mode:MVTS Pro serves as a single entry point on thecarrier's network and allows flexible choice ofthe necessary proxy mode for individual gateways and destinations. MVTS Pro featuresfull and signaling proxy modes. The full proxymode (both signaling and media proxy)provides topology hiding, enables seamlessinteraction with external gateways and bridgesbetween home and partner networks. The signaling proxy mode allows MVTS Proowners to channel media flows to bandwidthswith higher capacity, which enhances theefficiency of the system's switching resources use. Proxy options increase the system'sthroughput, while keeping high level ofdependability, network security, bandwidthmanagement and effective load balancingbetween channels.
- -
Operation and QoS analysis: The MERA solution provides carriers withelaborate analysis tools enabling networkcontrol and resolution of quality of service (QoS)problems. MVTS Pro allows the system operatorto view call statistics by originators, dial peers, terminating equipment, gateways or destinationsand detect performance degradation, therebyproviding service level agreement (SLA)assurance. MVTS Pro enables remote monitoringof the system operation under SNMP.
-
-
Seamless interoperability:The solution supports kernel level SIP/H.323translation and performs codec conversion, which guarantees MVTS Pro owners excellentquality of service and seamless connectivitywith partner and corporate networks.
-
Gate-keeper and SIP-registrar functionality enables carriers to interact withpartner networks built around whateverequipment. MVTS Pro can function eitheras a Gateway, or as a Gatekeeper/SIP registrardepending on the peering network architecture.
-
Building up Carrier's Network with MVTS Pro
Being a key element of the VoIP- networkMVTS Pro functions as a:
SIP-registrarH.323 GatekeeperSIP/H.323 signaling proxyH.323 RAS endpointRADIUS NAS port

MVTS Pro is a flexible solution thateasily integrates into the existingnetwork.
Number transformation helps meet variouspeering partner numbering plan requirements.MVTS Pro allows number transformation bothon the ingress and egress call legs.
- Load balancing: MVTS Pro performs dynamic re-distribution oflicenses depending on the current workload.Centralized license re-distribution adds tofault-tolerance of the system and ensures themost efficient use of the switching capacity.
-
A RADIUS API allows interaction withthird-party billing applications andbilling management systems.

Own routing mechanism allows routingpolicies based on:
The number of the calling/called party The route's answer seizure rate (ASR) Gateway/route traffic load
Caller ID group (one gateway can belongto several groups)
Day of week/time of day
External routing: is enabled by RADIUS API which interfaces withthird-party routing systems
is possible by any criteria relevant for thethird-party routing system

Traffic Manager
Traffic Manager is the system's intelligence thatprovides means for:
Authentication of VoIP endpoints
Traffic balancing policies implementation Call analysis, number validation andtransformation
QoS control
Generation of all relevant details for third-partybilling systems
Traffic Manager incorporates three types offunctional modules: the Routing module, theDatabase and the Web Server.
The Database contains MVTS Pro configurationfiles and CDRs and allows data export intoexternal billing systems.

Traffic Switch
Handles H.323 and SIP VoIP traffic, performskernel level protocol translation.
Functions as a session border controller:provides an IP-to-IP connectivity interface forsafe and secure interworking with customersand peering partners, enables interoperabilityof multi-vendor equipment, conceals thenetwork topology.
Traffic Switch is the source of call statistics, visualized and analyzed by means of the TrafficManager GUI.
Traffic Switch incorporates four types offunctional modules: Load Balancer/ H.323Gatekeeper/ SIP Registrar, Signaling Module,Media Module and Management Module.
