Term 3 Issue 2
August 2017
Buenas Tardes (good afternoon)
Keep an eye out in the newsletter for information regarding Literacy and Numeracy week. This year this event will be
between 28th August – 1st September. We will have our Book Parade on the 1st Of September (don’t forget to dress up and
come and be involved in the Parade. Our Book Fair will run from the 14th- 18th August in the Red Learning Community
Building. Keep an eye out on the coming newsletters for more information about this. I also look forward to seeing par-
ents during the Wyndham learning Festival Event running from the 1st September – 8th September across Wyndham.
What has been Happening ?
1. Kids Thrive as Catalysts Pitch event – 20 of our student leaders made Pitch presentations to local principals, univer-
sity and council members last week and successfully raised $2200 towards funding their projects. Our wonderful
students will be cleaning up the wetlands. Providing Care Packs to venerable families, hosting a Women of Wyndham
morning tea and creating multilingual welcome signage around the school. It was an amazing event and we should
all be very proud of what they are striving to achieve
2. Boit Street Choir – I have to privilege of attending this performance at the Melbourne Town Hall yesterday with 12 of
our students who were in a 300 student choir. The sang a range of songs and rhythmic performances. It was an out-
standing event and again we should feel very proud of all that our students are achieving this year. You can see pic-
tures and video of the performance on our school Facebook page.
The School Life
Our lift has been completed and is up and running. If you need to access the second level of the main building the lift can
be found next to the administration main entrance.
Parent Opinion Survey
The Parent Opinion Survey is completed annually by the Department of Education and Training and is conducted
amongst a sample of randomly selected parents at every school in Victoria. This year, about 114 randomly selected par-
ents have been invited to participate. Parents who were asked to participate will receive an email from the school on
Monday 7 th August. All responses to the survey are anonymous. The survey helps our school gain an understanding of
how you view our school climate, student engagement, and relationships. Our school will use these results to inform
school planning and improvement strategies. The survey will be conducted online by ORIMA Research Pty Ltd and only
takes 15 minutes to complete. If you receive a leter the online survey can be accessed from Monday 7th August to Sunday
27th August. Results will be sent back to our school at the end of September.
Lost Property
Lost property is starting to overflow. We invite you to check the lost property for lost and missing items. Please ensure
you label all your child’s clothing to ensure it can be returned to them. Items without names will be directed to our sec-
ond hand uniform shop if they are not claimed.
Money and other Valuables
Please encourage your children to leave treasured possessions at home. This includes playing cards, doll and toy cars.
Teachers may look after money if requested but are not responsible for valuables that students bring to school.
Care of Others Personal Belongings
Students who damage or take others property or belongings will be required to repair or replace the damaged or
lost article. Personal property is often brought to school by students, staff and visitors. This includes cards, dolls,
toy cars, mobile phones, electronic games, calculators, toys, sporting equipment and cars parked on school
premises. The Department does not hold insurance for personal property brought to schools and it has no
capacity to pay for any loss or damage to such property.
Working Bee
A reminder that the Working Bee for this term will be held on 16th September from 8am – 12pm. Please come
along and help beautify our school.
Kind regards
Laban Toose

This term we are offering a Drumbeat Program for parents/ carers. It will run for one hour per week on a Tuesday, for 10 weeks.
The Holyoake DRUMBEAT program was designed to engage children and young people resistant to talk based approaches. The program uses hand
drumming to foster improved levels of personal and social confidence and develop social skills.
DRUMBEAT involves up to 10 participants in 10 x 1 hour sessions with specific themes including self-responsibility, values, emotional expression, identity, peer pressure, harmony and team-work. Through hand drumming, the program uses a framework of fun and experiential learning to draw participants’ attention to connections between their experiences in the drum circle, and their re-lationships in the wider community.

clothing but if your child does come home with our clothing it would be appreciated if you could wash and return
item’s so other students can benefit from their use .
Remember to have all students contact and medical details current. Thanks
We are currently experiencing an increase of headlice at Wyndham Park Primary School.
In line with our Headlice Policy it is important that you notify the school if you find your child to have headlice and also en-
sure that they have been treated prior to their return to school. We also suggest that parents:
Check children’s hair on a weekly basis
Encourage children not to share hats, brushes or combs with anyone.
Follow the steps below to ensure your household is lice free including washing all bedding and clothing.
Follow up treatment is recommended after 7-10 days.
