Dear Parents, Thank you to all the parents who have supported the school, our students and the P&C at the recent events held such as Star Struck, the Athletics Carnival and our Movie Night. It is always great to get to see you all and get the chance to have a chat. Congratulations to the P&C who raised over $400 at our Movie Night! Dojo Rewards Over the last fortnight I have had a chance to reward 4 more of the Term 1 Dojo winners. I joined Calin in the computer room to assist him with Reading Eggs but it turns out he did not need my help! Wow, he did so well and we managed to get through 3 levels! Layla, Brianna and Lily then invited me to join them for gymnastics with the SISA teachers. We walked on the beam, did landings off the spring board, pushups, bunny hops off the mini tramp over a box, cartwheels and donkey kicks. The girls also did back walkovers – that was a little beyond me! This week I will be joining Lulu for her reward – I believe we are playing capture the flag!
Dance2bfit Next term we are going to have the company Dance2bfit working with all our classes. Dance2bfit is an energetic, innovative and fun way to get fit and funky with the latest dance styles to the hottest music tracks. This is a great program to improve the fitness levels of students while they are having a great time. Dance2bfit will be preparing and teaching our students dance routines for our school concert. Students will learn a professionally choreographed dance routine suitable for their age and ability, a whole school finale item and rehearse both of these items over the 9 week program. Our school concert will be held on Wednesday 11th September. Well done Star Struckers! Last Friday evening I was lucky enough to get to watch Star Struck and what a great show it was again this year! Well done to our Star Struck group – you were amazing! Thank you to Mrs Schaffer for all of your efforts and time spent preparing and supervising our students. Thank you also to Mrs Nichols and Mrs Moulder who gave up their time to assist in supervision over the weekend and to Miss Stacey, Mrs Mailey and Mrs Sharp who assisted with supervision during the rehearsal days. What a great team effort! I was also excited to see that our own Jacquie got herself a starring role in the Friday evening performance – well done Jacquie, always a great sport! Athletics Carnival – Thank you, thank you, thank you! Thank you to all the parents who assisted at the Athletics carnival last week and to SISA (Sport In Schools Australia) who provided the tabloid activities free of charge. It was wonderful to have so many parents assisting and ensuring the day ran smoothly and to have the weather on our side for the most part! Congratulations to all the parents and staff who ran in the parent/teacher races at the end of the day. I can’t believe we had 3 heats! What a lot of fun that was for all the students – thank you! Athletics Ribbons will be handed out next term due to Week 10 being a busy week with our NAIDOC celebrations and end of term activities. Debating Team Well done to our debating team who had their first debate last week at Valentine PS. Even though they did not get the win, Mrs Gomez was very proud of all the schools and the way they debated. Leave I will be on long service leave next week. Mrs Nichols will be relieving as Principal during that time. Please see Mrs Nichols if you have any questions or queries. School Reports The Semester 1 Academic Reports will be sent home on Thursday next week. The reports will show you the content that your child has covered this semester and clearly indicate whether they have achieved the content or if they are still working towards it. All students will also have 2-4 learning goals in English and in Mathematics clearly showing parents what they will be working on next semester. Have a great fortnight and a happy and safe holiday! Lyndal Coleman Principal Did you know? More Monopoly money is printed in a year, than real money printed throughout the world!

NAIDOC Week at Wyee
In Week 10, we will celebrate NAIDOC (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee) Week at Wyee PS. NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
The theme for NAIDOC 2019 is Voice. Treaty. Truth. Let’s work together for a shared future.
The following events will take place at our school:
Monday - Our Aboriginal student leaders will introduce NAIDOC Week at our morning assembly and we will have a performance by Dion Drummond from 1pm-2pm
Tuesday - All classes will learn about the significance of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags
Wednesday - We will have the official opening of the Learning Circle and bush tucker garden with special guests and a smoking ceremony
Thursday—We will have Indigenous games at lunch and recess
Friday—NAIDOC activities for all students from 12.10-2pm. Our Aboriginal student leaders will present at our afternoon assembly.
We would like to warmly invite all families to our Learning Circle Opening on Wednesday 3rd July at 1.30pm. We would also love your company on Friday 5th July from 12-2pm to be involved in NAIDOC activities with your child.
