Wychavon District Council Notes of the Meeting of the Agriculture and Migrant Workers Policy Development Panel held at 9.00 a.m. on Monday 23 June 2008 at Ledbury and Civic Centre, Pershore. Present:- Councillor Mrs A Steel - Chairman Councillors:- Officers:-

1. Apologies for absence. There were none.

2. Declarations of Interests. There were none.

3. Visit to Hereford - Presentations The Panel was welcomed by Members and Officers of the Herefordshire Council

and received presentations on the 2 documents annexed to these Notes from Officers of Herefordshire Council who answered their questions. They then visited Withers farm, Lebury for a conducted site visit by the owner who answered the Panels’ questions. The Panel after returning to the Civic Centre, Pershore made the following observations on their visit:-

• That Withers farm was a well run site, but it was acknowledged that packing and distribution took place from a site in Town,

• That the methology behind the Polytunnel policy was sound,

• That there had not yet been a challenge to the 3 month season

interpretation for seasonal workers’ accommodation,

• That their web site for potential visitors/migrant workers was a good idea and we could learn lessons from it,

• That the resources devoted to polytunnel matters was impressive and it was noted that a planner at Herefordshire had specialised in the matter for the last 5 years,

• That the presentations were good and very interesting,

• That the compact credit card style information system was good,

• That the mixture of facilities at Withers Farm worked well and the separate

central packing house was good idea,

• The short transportation distance from farm to packing house was good, environmentally,

• That landscaping at the farm was good. In this respect members asked

the Officers to investigate whether Wychavon could insist on earlier/better landscaping before developments took place, and

• That landscaping conditions should be vigorously monitored in respect of

major developments and that all current standard landscaping conditions should be reviewed.

4. Next Meeting. Monday 14 July 2008 at 1.30pm in the Chamber (previously Training Room). The Meeting closed at 4.10 p.m. CEW
