Starting NurseryStarting nursery is a big step. We believe it is important to develop a close partnership so that your child's first experience of school is a positive one. To help your child settle in, Nursery staff will visit you and your child at home. We gather information to allow us to give each pupil individual attention, to build their confidence as they embark upon this initial phase of their education.

In the early years, we provide a secure, friendly and exciting environment in which our younger children flourish.

Children approach all aspects of learning through structured play. They are taught using a motivating, child-centred curriculum which ensures children are keen to learn and proud of their achievements.

We make sure every child gets a very special start to their school life, one that lays firm foundations for their future development, well-being and success.

Nursery Parent

at Wyborne Primary children really matter. Every child’s ability is recognised, developed and rewarded. Our curriculum is tailored to meet individual needs and aspirations, which ensure all our children are interested and motivated to learn. We have high expectations and a strong focus on literacy and numeracy. We promote enjoyment for learning and encourage children to be independent, reflective learners through the development of thinking skills.

Knowledge of how each individual learns best is important. Clear procedures are in place to identify and meet children’s individual needs providing extra support and new challenges where appropriate to help every child fulfil their potential.

Guidance and support are strong features of our school ethos. We believe children learn most effectively when they are at ease with themselves and others, working both co-operatively and collaboratively. Children are expected to be thoughtful, considerate and self disciplined towards all members of the school community. We are a fully inclusive school having achieved the Chartermark for Inclusion award, offering equality of access and opportunity for all children.

Children settle in quickly and are soon eager to learn. Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) and Citizenship play a vital role in helping children to develop self esteem and become active citizens, who value themselves and care for those around them. School monitors, buddy and playpal systems give children opportunities to develop responsible attitudes helping them to make informed decisions.

Pupil voice is important and the school council takes an active role in school improvement. Through the school council children can have real influence in helping to develop the ethos of the school, school policies and practice that supports our drive towards high standards and self esteem.

as well as our enthusiastic and dedicated teaching and support staff we have volunteers who visit regularly to provide additional support to teachers and children. We have an active and hard working parents and friends association.

Our governors are representative of the parents, school staff and the local community. They bring a range of interests, knowledge and skills and have responsibility for overseeing the organisation, curriculum and budget of the school.

Partnership with parentsOur relationship with parents is extremely important to us. We aim to be partners in the learning process so that together we can provide the best possible education for your child.

We welcome parents into our school, encouraging them to take an active part in their child's learning. The school provides opportunities to discuss each child’s progress and needs through regular consultation. an Open Day and an exhibition is held in the summer term giving parents and carers a valuable opportunity to observe and spend time with their child in the learning environment.

We value the importance of homework. your time and interest in what your child does at school is very important and shows your child that you care about their learning. Regular involvement in homework supports children in consolidating their learning at school.

Beyond the ClassroomWyborne Primary has a strong commitment to helping children adopt healthy lifestyles and aims to make health an integral part of school life. We have achieved the Healthy Schools and activemark (P.E and Sport Strategy) awards; as well as the Extended Schools award and the Basic Skills Quality mark. We actively promote walking to school through our successful Travel Plan initiative.

We offer an active and thriving range of additional activities which help children to realise their full potential, both in their learning and personal development. a varied range of extra-curricular activities organised by enthusiastic staff (both school based and external coaches and tutors) provide additional opportunities to extend children’s experiences. Children are involved in sport, drama, music, gardening and creative opportunities. Some clubs are run independently from the school and may incur a charge.

Educational visits are arranged to support children’s learning, as well as visits to the school by speakers and theatre companies. year 6 have a further opportunity to experience a residential school journey to Swanage.

We run a very successful Forest School for Nursery, Reception and year 1 children. Forest school is based upon a desire to provide young children with an education that encourages a greater appreciation of the natural world; to take responsibility for nature conservation in later life and to use their own inherent learning style to explore this environment.

Children in year 6 take responsibility for organising ‘playpals’, a scheme that promotes active play at lunchtime.

The school works in partnership with ‘alpha Club’ who run both a breakfast and after school club for Wyborne pupils.
