Happy and Healthy New Year to All! As we enter into 2016, The

Wyandanch Public Library remains a popular destination that connects the

Wyandanch community to free educational and cultural resources that enrich

the lives of the Wyandanch Community residents and visitors alike.

The Library is very proud of the success we have made in 2015 which in-

cludes the completion of the new mezzanine level. A space that was created

for our community young adults and the renovation of the main level space

including new computers for our adults patrons. We also received grant

funds that were used towards the purchase and installation of a new heating

and air conditioning unit. Replacement of old fencing along the perimeter of

the building was done. As you look behind the building you will see a new

fence that encloses newly acquired property that the library has purchased

with plans for the possibility of future expansion. The latest upgrade for the

end of year 2015 is new public copiers and computer printer . The printer

will be able to print in color and the copier will fax and scan.

Our New Year’s resolution is to continue to self-evaluate and strive to

improve our services to you. We want to inspire lifelong learning through

connections to knowledge and each other. Happy, Healthy, Safe and Pros-

Storytime- Children ages 3-5 are invited to listen to

stories, sing songs, and create a craft.

Tuesdays @ 11:00 am

Toddler Time Storytime-Children ages 18 months-36

months are invited to listen to stories, songs, and rhymes.

Wednesdays @ 11:00 am

Domino Math- Children in grades 2-5 will have an

opportunity to practice their math skills while having fun

with their friends. Monday, January 11th, 4:00 pm

History for Kids- This program will be held monthly and

will highlight the important accomplishments of famous

African Americans. In January we will be celebrating the

work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Tuesday, January 12th, 4:00 pm

Explorers Book Club- The Explorers book club will

help children improve their vocabulary and reading

comprehension skills by exploring a variety of chapter

books. This program is recommended for children in

grades 3-5. Tuesday, January 19th, 4:00 pm

I Have a Dream -Whaling was one of the earliest

integrated professions in America. Celebrate Dr. Martin

Luther King Jr. Day by learning about well-remembered

African American captains, touch some of the navigational

tools they used, and create your own “I Have a Dream”

dream catcher to take home! This program is presented by

the Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum.

Grades 2-6. Monday, January 25th, 4:00 pm

Little Learners Book Club-The Little Learners book club

will help beginning readers increase their literacy skills.

This program is recommended for children in grades K-2.

African American Storytelling with Julie Pasqual– A

storyteller of African and African American tales Pasqual’s

storytelling she has told stories at venues such as the

Kennedy Center, the New Jersey Storytelling Festival and

the Connecticut Storytelling Festival.

Wednesday, February 3rd, 4:00 pm

Author Visit- Children of all ages are welcome to join us

and meet Priscilla J. Edwards author of The Best Things In

Life Are Dreamed. A limited number of signed books will

be available for free. Saturday, February 6th, 2:00 pm

African Safari Craft- Join us and listen to a traditional

African American folktale and create an animal puppet.

Monday, February 8th, 4:00 pm

History for Kids- This program will be held monthly and

will highlight the important accomplishments of famous

African Americans. Join us this month and learn more

about the first African American woman Astronaut

Dr. Mae Jemison. Tuesday, February 9th, 4:00 pm

Valentine’s Day Craft- Bring a friend and create a

special craft for this special day.

Thursday, February 11th, 4:00 pm

Introduction to the Mac - iMovie- In this two session

workshop, you will learn how to use iMovie on a Mac

computer for recording, editing, adding sound clips and

effects and more.

Shark Tank: Build a Business Plan– Think you have a

idea for best new product or business? Make a proposal

and see if your idea sinks or swims. Snacks will be

provided and prizes to the winning team.

Are you ready? Librarian Mr. Lopez will present career

readiness workshops for Teens. Topics include resume

review workshop, interview workshop, careers searching

The Skin I’m In Skin Club For Teen Boys and Girls-

Creating iOS Apps-In this multi-session class, we will learn

the basics of creating and using apps for the Mac, iPad and

NYS Tax & Finance and Bethpage Federal Credit

Union will be offering free tax preparation or tax

assistance. at the Wyandanch Public Library.

Every Wednesday starting from January 27th thru

April 6th from 10:00 am-7:00 pm.

You can qualify to e-file at no cost

if your income does not exceed $62,000 Call the library to schedule your appointment for free tax

preparation or tax assistance. .

Irene Goodman Memorial Scholarship The Mothers Club of

Wheatley Heights will present a scholarship to a qualified senior,

male or female, of African American and/or Caribbean descent,

who has exemplified community involvement, kindness to

others, sound moral judgment, educational strength and

perseverance. (Must graduate from the following schools:

Wyandanch Memorial High School, Half Hollow Hills West,

Half Hollow Hills East, Deer Park High School,

North Babylon High School)

Scholarship applications and application requirements can be

picked up at the library at the Circulation Desk.
