Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan Simplified Short Form Section 1

Demonstrated below is the complete section 1 from the Yang Style Simplified Short Form,

extracted from the exciting forthcoming book 'In the Shadow of the Masters - Simplified Tai Chi Chuan Training Manual'

Form 1 - Opening Form

1a. Your hands are held loosely by your sides, your feet are shoulder width apart and you look afar (straight ahead).

1b. Raise your hands shoulder level.

1c. Bend your elbows and knees at the same time. Your hands return to your sides as your body sinks down. This will be the level that your Tai Chi form will be performed at.

Form 2 - Part the Wild Horses Mane (3 times)

2a. Transfer your weight to your left leg and turn in your right foot 45o.

2b. Transfer your weight back to your right leg and pull in your left leg on your toe. Raise your right hand up to shoulder level, palm facing downwards, at the same time turn your left palm upwards. (hold the ball posture).

2c. Step away with your left leg in the direction of West

2d. Transfer your weight forwards. As your left arm moves to shoulder level, palm facing upwards, your right arm moves down to hip level, palm facing downwards.

2e. Sit back and turn out your left foot 45o.

2f. Now transfer your weight to your left leg. As your right foot steps up beside your left foot, your right hand circles across to your hip, palm facing upwards and your left hand pulls back to shoulder level, palm facing downwards, (hold the ball).

2g. Step forward with your right leg placing your foot onto its heel

2h. Transfer your weight forwards. As your right arm moves to shoulder level, palm facing upwards, your left arm moves down to hip level, palm facing downwards.

2i. Sit back and turn out your right foot 45o.

2j. Now transfer your weight to your right leg. As your left foot steps up beside your right foot, your left hand circles across to your hip, palm facing upwards and your right hand pulls back to shoulder level, palm facing downwards, (hold the ball).

2k. Step forward with your left leg placing your foot onto its heel.

2l. Transfer your weight forwards. As your left arm moves to shoulder level, palm facing upwards, your right arm moves down to hip level, palm facing downwards.

       

Form 3 - White Crane Spreads its Wings

3a. Step up with your right foot behind your left foot, turn Your left palm downwards and your right palm upwards, (hold the ball posture).

3b. Your left hand drops down to hip level as you raise your right hand above your head to formulate White Crane.

3c. Place left foot down on to its toe turn right palm upwards left palm turns downwards.

       

Form 4 - Brush Knee, Push (3 times)

4a. Pull back your left leg onto your toe.

4b. Drop your right hand to hip level, your left hand sweeps across to your right shoulder, (hold the ball).

4c. Your right hand rises up to shoulder level as your left leg lifts up ready to step forwards onto your heel.

4d. As you step forward onto your left heel bend your right arm placing your right palm beside your face ready to execute brush knee push.

4e. Place your left foot down heel first and as you transfer your weight to your left leg, your left hand sweeps across your left knee, palm facing downwards and your right palm pushes forwards.

4f. With out moving your hands sit back and transfer your weight to your right leg this will allow you to turn your left foot 45 degrees.

Your right hand sweeps across to your left shoulder, palm facing downwards, your left palm just turns upwards at hip level, (hold the ball).

4h. Your left hand rises up to shoulder level as your right leg lifts up ready to step forwards onto your heel.

Form 5 - Strum the Lute

5a. Your right leg steps up behind your left leg and you transfer your body weight to your right leg. Your left hand starts to raise and your right hand starts to pull in towards your centre line.

5b. Your left leg moves forwards placing your left foot onto your heel. As your right hand pulls inwards, place it beside your left elbow. Your left hand is in front of your right hand, both hands held at shoulder level.
