~ Macarthur CDC ~ The Spalding Method The Spalding Method teaches children to read, write and spell in a way that integrates explicit, sequential, systematic and multisensory teaching in the areas of: o Phonics o Spelling o Vocabulary o Reading o Writing o Comprehension It is a step by step program that begins with teaching the sounds of English and their corresponding letters, before moving onto spelling words, constructing oral and written sentences and reading and comprehension. A number of studies have shown that The Spalding Method produces consistently higher reading scores in primary school aged children. It is suited to children in primary school (K-6), English as a Second Language (ESL) students and students with learning difficulties. During therapy, the clinician’s role will be to teach your child how to read, write and spell in an interactive and fun way. Please note that each child learns at their own rate, with motivation and continuous home practice being the key factors involved in your child progressing through The Spalding Method.
