eW Cove EC Powercore
Cost-effective linear interior LED cove and accent xture with
solid white light
Integrates patented Powercore technology
Powercore rapidly, efciently, and accurately
controls power output to xtures directly from
line voltage, eliminating the need for an external
power supply. Contractor-friendly installation
dramatically simplies installation and lowers total
system cost.
Warm and cool color temperatures Warm
2700 K xtures are appropriate for intimate,
open environments such as restaurants and hotellobbies. Cool 4000 K xtures are appropriate for
lighting clean and efcient spaces such as ofces,
classrooms, and hospitals.
Support for multiple voltages eW Cove EC
Powercore accepts power input of 100, 120,
or 220 240 VAC for consistent installation
and operation from line voltage in a variety of
locations.
Dimming capability Patented DIMand
technology offers smooth dimming capability with
selected commercially available reverse-phase
ELV-type dimmers.
Compact and exible eW Cove EC Powercore
low-profile fixtures fit in narrow alcoves, display
cases, light boxes, and other tight spaces where
light sources requiring ballasts, external power
supplies, and other auxiliary equipment can not.
Sizes of 12 in (305 mm) and 6 in (152 mm) offer
further flexibility in positioning.
Easy installation Powercore delivers line
voltage directly to the xtures, simplifying
installation by eliminating the need for externalpower supplies and allowing long product runs.
Easy-to-install 4 ft (1.2 m) mounting tracks allow
quick project setup in linear applications.
Flexible mounting and positioning With end-
to-end locking power connectors that can make
180 turns, eW Cove EC Powercore xtures
are easy to position in even the most challenging
mounting circumstances. Fixtures rotate in 10
increments through a full 180 for precise aiming
and beam mixing. Optional mounting tracks
support vertical and overhead positioning. 1 ft
(305 mm) and 5 ft (1.5 m) jumper cables can add
extra space between xtures.
eW Cove EC Powercore is a dimmable, linear LED fixture that provides an affordable, energy-efficient alternative
to traditional cove lighting in applications requiring white light. With its low profile, rotating housing and flexible
end-to-end locking power connectors, eW Cove EC Powercore is the perfect choice for a wide range of interior
retail, exhibit, hospitality, and architectural settings.
Superior Binning Algorithm
Sets New Standard for ColorConsistency
eW Cove EC Powercore exceeds the
recognized standards for color quality to
guarantee uniformity and consistency of
hue and color temperature across LEDs,
fixtures, and manufacturing runs.

Warmth and Efciency witheW Cove EC Powercore
eW Cove EC Powercore white-light LED fixtures offer a sustainable, low-maintenance
alternative to linear incandescent or fluorescent systems.
Old North Church
Bostons Old North Church replaced its existing click-strip
incandescent lighting with 130 eW Cove Powercore units,
installed along interior niches of the churchs upper galleryAs shown on the cover and to the left, the eW Cove
Powercore fixtures cast a warm glow along the churchs
niches, while accentuating the historic arches and moldings
Not only do the LED fixtures consume six times less
energy than the previous incandescent system (40 watts
per eight-foot run, versus 240 watts), but the light sources
also offer a projected useful life of 50,000 hours up to
25 times longer than the previous sources. With eW Cove
Powercore fixtures in place, the management of Old North
Church expects to cut energy consumption by nearly 85%.
The fixtures low profile and simple line-power installation,
courtesy of patented Powercore technology, enable them
to fit in narrow alcoves and niches where traditional light
sources that require ballasts, additional power supplies,
and other equipment can not. For further efficiency and
ease of use, the church can smoothly dim the eW Cove Powercore fixtures with their
existing ELV-type dimmers.
Flinstering
Across the Atlantic, Flinstering, a fashionable restaurant in Breda, the Netherlands, uses
LED lighting to create ambiance and atmosphere while benefiting from its long lifetime,
low maintenance, simplicity of installation, and energy efficiency.
Flinstering uses thehigh-quality white
light offered by eW
Cove Powercore for
dramatic illumination
and accenting. As
shown here, eW Cove
Powercore fixtures
warmly illuminate the
surface beneath the
colored bottles behind
the bar.

eW Cove EC Powercore Product Guide
Installation
eW Cove EC Powercore offers high-output , energy-eff icient indoor solid white
alcove lighting with Powercore technology. Powercore, which delivers line voltage
directly to the fixture, eases installation by eliminating the need for external power
supplies or special wiring.
Owner / User Responsibilities
It is the responsibility of the contractor, installer, purchaser, owner, and user to
install, maintain, and operate eW Cove EC Powercore fixtures in such a manner as
to comply with all applicable codes, state and local laws, ordinances, and regulations.
Consult with the appropriate electrical inspector to ensure compliance.
Create a Layout PlanRegardless of the size and complexity of your installation, the time you spend up front
can help minimize installation and configuration issues later. Keep these suggestions in
mind as you plan your installation:
1. On an architectural diagram or other diagram that shows the physical layout of the
installation, create a layout map that species the appropriate location of the light
xtures in relation to each other, and to any dimmer switches, wall switches, and line
power sources. Identify any obstacles or physical features requiring exible jumper
cables between xtures.
2. Using the xtures power consumption and efciency ratings, the lighting
designer or architect should calculate the cove dimensions to ensure that
operating temperatures remain within safe levels. The designer or architect
should also determine the coves fascia design and xture setback based on the
cove dimensions and room width. For consistent results, the cove width and
height should accommodate the xtures minimum mixing distances. We strongly
recommend creating dimensional models and mockups prior to installation.
3. eW Cove EC Powercore xtures are installed in series. The in-line connectors
allow end-to-end xture connections for the best visual effects. When installing
xtures end-to-end, allow a minimum distance of .125 in (3 mm) between xtures
and a maximum distance of .625 in (16 mm). For more spacing between xtures,
use the 1 ft (305 mm) or 5 ft (1.5 m) jumper cables.
4. You can install a run of eW Cove EC Powercore xtures using the 10 ft (3 m)
Leader Cable with ying leads. This option is preferable when connecting to a third-
party junction box, or when retrotting an existing incandescent or uorescent cove
lighting installation.
In North America, you can use the Wiring Compartment when you want to run
branch conduit all the way to the rst xture in a series, or where local codes
require it. You can also create a portable installation by using the 8 ft (2.4 m) Leader
Cable with plug.

5. If xtures are installed end-to-end on a 20 A circuit using the standard 10 ft (3 m)
Leader Cable, each run can accommodate up 100 12 in (305 mm) xtures, or up
to 150 6 in (152 mm) xtures. Using the optional jumper cables can decrease the
number of xtures that you can connect in a single run.
Install Wall and Dimmer Switches (optional)eW Cove EC Powercore fixtures can be controlled either with a standard wall switch
(on / off) or a compatible, commercially available electronic low-voltage (ELV) dimmer.
eW Cove Powercore fixtures work with selected commercially available reverse-phase
ELV-type dimmers.
For a list of compatible ELV dimmers, and for details on selecting the appropriate
dimmer for your lighting installation, visit www.philipscolorkinetics.com/support/
appnotes, or consult Application Engineering services at [email protected].
Prepare for the Installation1. Verify that all supporting equipment (switches, line power sources) is in place.
2. If your installation calls for jumper cables to add space between xtures, make
sure they are available.
3. Ensure that all additional parts (optional mounting tracks, mounting hardware,
terminators) and tools are available.
Install the FixturesYou can mount eW Cove EC Powercore fixtures directly to a wall, ceiling, cabinet,
or other secure surface. You can install several eW Cove EC Powercore fixtures in
optional 4 ft (1.2 m) lengths of mounting track to ensure a straight run.
(Optional) Install Mounting Tracks
1. Field-cut the mounting tracks to the desired length with a hacksaw or tin snips.
2. Install the mounting tracks using hardware suitable for the mounting surface.
To ensure proper xture t, hardware must not extend above the track
standoffs after installation. The recommended maximum spacing between screws
is 12 in (305 mm).
ETo calculate the number of xtures yourspecic installation can support, download
the Conguration Calculator from
www.philipscolorkinetics.com/support/
install_tool/, or consult Philips Color
Kinetics Application Engineering Services at
ERefer to the installation instructionsincluded with the wall or dimmer switch for
installation and wiring information.
EYou can use the xture base as atemplate when pre-drilled pilot holes are
required. Hold the xture in place and mark
the four screw holes.
