Conclusions•The landscape has changed in recent years and the impact of OA publishing as well as social media is undeniable•Researchers are now able to use different formats to disseminate their research in accepted new models•Publishers not adapting or investing into new technology and/or offering new publishing output methods today are at risk of disappearing.
