But theres a catch. Because WerewolfWerewolfWerewolfWerewolfWerewolfhas had its eyes on the Final Battle for solong, the Final Battle has to be good. AndIm not talking Hollywood blockbustergood. It has to compare with Ragnarokitself. The giants in the earth break free, the works of man collapse, and a smallbut devoted army is all that makes thedifference between total destruction anda world that may have a second chance.

Thankfully, weve got room to play

with not just one scenario, but with four. When we decided that the Time of Judg-ment books would be hardcover, that gaveus tremendous amount of space to playwith. So, not only do we present a chapterthat lays out the state of the world as itescalates toward all Malfeas breakingloose, but we have four different takes onhow the world can end. And thats a goldenopportunity to tackle everything. Won-dering where we were going with the

growing emphasis on the Weaver beingan enemy of Gaia? Check out the WeaverAscendantchapter. Want to see how theties of Zhyzhaks destiny, the Perfect Metisand even the destruction in Bangladeshtie together? Take a look atThe Last Battle-ground. Ready for a world-ending scenario

that will scar Heaven and Earth forever?Look no further than Ragnarok, where wepull out all the stops. And as for the fourthscenario, well, that one you have to waitfor. If thats what your Storyteller chooses, youre in for a surprise.

But if theres a common thread amongall four of these Apocalypse scenarios(apart from thats it for the World ofDarkness), its one that we had to in-clude the Garou do down fighting. This

isnt some sissy T.S. Eliot poem where theworld ends not with a bang but a whim-per. What fun would that be to play?Although each of the scenarios tells thestory of Werewolf Werewolf Werewolf Werewolf Werewolfs end in a differentway, theyre all designed to be used asmuch as simply read. Your pack will bethe ones standing on the last battlefield, tearing into the foe under Anthelios hell-ish light. Your characters will be the onesracing to undo the Enemys rituals, to

give Gaia that last chance even if theyhave to give their own lives to do it. Theglory is yours.

Its going to be one wild, lunatic blow-out, and we hope you enjoy it. See you onthe battlefield.

Id be lying if I said I wasnt getting sentimental working onApocalypseApocalypseApocalypseApocalypseApocalypse. Sentimental in a good way. From the beginning,Werewolf Werewolf Werewolf Werewolf Werewolf has been the game line most prepared to end the world.Look at the title of the game! From the Prophecy of the Phoenix to thePerfect Metis to the Red Star, everything has led up to this. So in a way, much of the work was done long ago.

While one of MageMageMageMageMages popular ele-ments originated in the late 80s ArsMagica fantasy roleplaying game, thenew Storytelling Game of Modern

Magic was an innovation in wizardry, boasting the most versatile magic sys-tem of any roleplaying game. Iremember when Stewart Wieck finallyrevealed his giant manuscript to his fel-low White Wolfers. Thered never been agame like it, filled with philosophy, cos-mology and kick-ass wizardry, all in thesame world where vampire clans andwerewolf tribes stalked their prey. Like

any first draft, it went through thewringer of rigorous playtesting, tweak-ing and refining within an insanely tightschedule, and picking up new elementsalong the way. Everybody worked theirbutts off to make it the best game yet.

And it grew from there, with a plethoraof sourcebooks, ably helmed by PhilBrucato, who further refined the gamewith a second edition. As time marched onand the World of Darkness suffered the

Reckoning, MageMageMageMageMage changed. The AvatarStorm rose to force mages back to Earth, tofight their battle for Ascension in the meanstreets rather than in realms of dream andfancy. Revised by Jess Heinig, MageMageMageMageMage be-came a grim, realistic game set in arecognizable World of Darkness. And thats

where I came in, shepherding MageMageMageMageMage intoits next phase, a reminder that the pastoften comes back to haunt the present.

    Throughout all the sourcebooks and

plot twists, MageMageMageMageMages many authors havealso done their best to warp readersminds and vault their imaginations to-ward a world where magic is real anddangerous. Now its time to see wherethese modern mages struggles lead to enlightenment or oblivion.

Like any truly occult setting, MageMageMageMageMagehas introduced a knotwork tapestry ofsecret societies and plots, age-old ven-

dettas and impossible quests. The air isso thick with conspiracy that its some-times hard to breath. Ascension cutsthrough all these pretensions, likeAlexander the Great cutting the GordianKnot. The quick, unequivocal stroke thatsevers all complexity.

So what is Ascension, anyway? Thatwould be telling. Mages have sought theanswer to that question for ages. Now wegive you the tools to answer it for yourself.Therell be a return of old faces Dante,Amanda, Senex and Voormas but its upto you to fill Ascension with the most fit-ting cast of all: your characters. Theyrethe ones who deserve answers after 11years of asking the tough questions.

Thus is the premise behind World of World of World of World of World of Darkness: Time of JudgmentDarkness: Time of JudgmentDarkness: Time of JudgmentDarkness: Time of JudgmentDar kne ss: Tim e o f J udg men t. This single, hardcover, 224-page book addresses the Endfor five different game lines, each with its ownchapter. As with all the Judgment books, weoffer ideas on how each of the supernaturalraces might be affected by utter cataclysmor redemption. The conditions of demon ex-istence may change at the end, for example, altering everything the damned have come to

know and expect of their existence. The rulescan all change in the last days on two levels:in the setting and in game systems. Posses-sion of hosts might be altered inexplicably asthe forces of the universe shift momentum.Human bodies might spontaneously expeltheir invaders. Or acquiring hosts could be-come easier than ever for would-bepossessors, with the absence or frailty of hu-man spirits no longer required for demons. Those setting-based cosmological shifts maymean new game rules for demonic posses-sion, and for what the damned are capable ofat the End. Now imagine those same possibili-ties across all the games.

But this single book does more than showhow its games cosmology and rules can bealtered. It presents a host of suggestions andstory ideas for how the world can end fordemons, hunters, changelings, Kuei-jin and

Amenti. At no point does White Wolf say, Thisis how your chronicle must end. We give youand your troupe choices on how to end things, from absolute destruction to the salvation ofthe world and the turning of a new age. If youwant, your chronicle can stop with a punc-tuation mark or can continue on to newhorizons that you create. Its your game. Youget to decide the exact nature of its fate andthe role of your characters in that destiny.

Does one book covering five games short-change each of those storylines? No. Wevepacked this book with the best of the best ideasand information on how the various lines canclose. Pretty cool doesnt cut it. Its awe-some or nothing. The result are succinct andpowerful ideas and tools for your Judgmentchronicle. Suggestions and plot points that willsurprise, terrify and invigorate characters andplayers. We want each of these games to endon a high note, and the format of this book letsus do just that. We get right to the point. Wehope youll appreciate the final result.

Stories of endings, whether about theentire universe or just your games smallslice of it, necessarily involve characterscoming to terms with what theyve accom-plished, what theyre afraid of and most ofall what they continue to value. Charactersshould feel involved on every level not

just as supernatural beings dealing withsweeping mystical crises, but as simplefriends and lovers, family and neighbors.Doing so gets players involved on an inti-mate level that not only fuels the dramaticengine of live-action, but that helps playerssustain belief in the sweeping events takingplace. Dont worry about rising evil or fall-ing stars alone. Find time to confront themany personal victories and losses thatmake up so much of life (and unlife). Take

the opportunity to resolve your games mi-nor conflicts and subplots. Or perhaps lookat what its like to have regrets or to leavethings unsaid as the world ends.

This is not to say that every charactermust have a final Poignant Heart-to-Heartwith her Tearful but Supportive SignificantOther before resolutely marching off into the

Likewise, theres a fine line for a Storyteller betweenbeing true to the devastating nature of thematerial and simply being mean for its ownsake. Players will immediately know if thatline is crossed. Events are going to be big

enough without throwing layers of out-of-character melodrama on top of it all.Rather, as the title of this page suggests,

dont focus on only global events or the coolpowers possible at the end. Try to thinkabout what would really matter to youifthe world was ending. Chances are its a lotmore simple and humble not to mentionmoving than you might first believe. Most characters arent much different. Whatmakes them cry or fear or wonder is often

far removed from supernatural power andmystical trinkets. Quite often, its rooted inthe very human facets of their souls, fearsand dreams.

And thats the essence of live-actiondrama.

Endings are always about the little things. Its very tempting for Storytellers and players to think of the Endtimes

and immediately dream of events along the lines of summer actionmovies. Earthquakes! Fires! Riots! City streets running with the blood ofAncients! Thunderwyrms erupting and toppling skyscrapers! Sure, all ofthese images and more can be part of an interesting Judgmentscenario, but Ill tell you this right now overlooking the personal side of the

The Time of Judgment TrilogyJanuary, February and March of 2004 bring

about the unprecedented Time of Judgment, the end of the World of Darkness as it wasconceived 13 years ago. White Wolf Fiction isfront and center in this momentous event, with a trilogy of novels telling the story of theEndtimes from three distinct perspectives.Because of the extraordinary nature of these

events, weve expanded our mass-marketpaperback format to 352 pages (as opposedto 288) for this trilogy.

Beckett breaks down when he learnsGehenna is coming, explains author AriMarmell. Sure, he knew it was around thecorner, but he always assumed that some-thingwould happen between now and then something to show that there was a reasonfor it all, that it was more than the curse ofsome arbitrary God who chose to teach oneman a lesson by causing untold pain andsuffering to every generation to follow.Becketts last desperate search isnt just oneof curiosity. The final installment of the End trilogy,Bruce Baughs Mage: Judgment DayM age: Ju d gm en t D ayMage: Judgment DayM age: Ju d gm en t D ayMage : Ju dgme nt Da y un-veils the full scope of Ascension through theeyes of three mages. While vampires havefeared Gehenna for eternity and werewolveshave prepared for the Apocalypse through-out time, the diverse Traditions have eachheld to their own vision of the Endtimes,

cobbled together in the grand unificationof the Nine Spheres. Now, with the Red Starlooming, three mages from three very dif-ferent Traditions discover the legendary

Tenth Sphere: Telos, Judgment. Its the miss-ing component of the grand cosmologicalsystem of the awakened. After dissolutioninto Entropy and before resurrection intopure Primal energy, all things are judged. Now that judgment happens on a universalscale. This, at last, is Ascension, when allthings face their ultimate measure.

From beginning to end, OrpheusOrpheusOrpheusOrpheusOrpheus hasbeen a storytelling experiment, re-inter-preting the foundations of the World ofDarkness while remaining true to theirspirit. Gone are the secret societies vying tomanipulate humanity. This is a story about

people. The revelation of ghosts and anafterlife doesnt shatter society as we knowit. Humanity is made of sturdier stuff thanthat. No, OrpheusOrpheusOrpheusOrpheusOrpheus is about humanitystenacity to survive even past death.

OrpheusOrpheusOrpheusOrpheusOrph eus is also about heroes. No gamesurvives without protagonists and antago-nists struggling to accomplish their goals. The World of Darkness always casts charac-ters within the uncertain grays. While this isa realistic depiction of the world, it alsocreates opportunities for characters to fail.In contrast, OrpheusOrpheusOrpheusOrpheusOrpheus tries to provide rea-sons for characters to succeed. This isespecially important for ghosts, who haveevery reason to lament their condition. Evenin popular literature, few disembodied spir-its can be defined as heroic. Most are spitefulor angry, with only a rare few inspiring

hope. OrpheusOrpheusOrpheusOrpheusOrpheus provides characters withreason andincentive to help one another.Whether by aiding ghosts to find a finalreward or by fighting an enemy that endan-gers eternal souls, the characters areheroes if only to a handful.

Finally, with the monumental scale ofthe World of Darkness, its easy to over-look characters as insignificantindividuals. But OrpheusOrpheusOrpheusOrpheusOrpheus helps charac-ters be important to the world. Whatmakes their contribution so poignant isthat their exploits are not likely to bepublicized. Their fight to save ghosts froma massive threat is waged on the battle-field of the hereafter, where no one cancelebrate their victories.

Against the waning light of the Worldof Darkness, where hope falters with eachpassing moment, the characters are thenew beacons of their kind. But no hero isever born without threat of adversity, death, temptation or eternal damnation.Thats why there are so few heroes likeyour characters.

The corerulebook focuses on ghosts and terror through exploration of the unknown.Subsequent books focus on different themes, whether horror through loss of
