Imperialism led to many conflicts over territory and self-interest. Imperialism was the want to expand and conquer new lands for colonization and resources.

NATIONALISM

Nationalism is an extreme form of patriotism, especially marked by a feeling of superiority over other countries.

ALLIANCES

Alliances were used to deter other nations from attacking. Two notable alliances were formed before WW1.

The Triple entente: France, Britain, Russia

The Triple Alliance: Germany, Italy, Austria-Hungary, and Bosnia

MILITARISM

Militarism is the practice of building large armies for self-defense and the promotion of a nation’s agenda. Many countries started building large armies, more noticeably Germany and Britain.
