COURSE OUTCOMES:

At the end of the course , the students should be able to:-

1. identify and select materials

2. prepare mortar according to proportions

3. construct stretcher, English and Flemish bond wall in various forms with pointing and jointing

4. construct door and window opening on brick wall with rough and axe arches are constructed horizontally5. dismantle formwork

6. construct isolated piers and attached piers with the erection of coping and capping

7. construct paver, block and slab paver8. construct hollow block walls

9. lay off damp proof course in brickwork

COURSE DESCRIPTIONThis course is designed to give knowledge how to construct the building structures as brick walls in various form , arches , isolated and attached piers, construct brick paver , hollow block walls and slab paver.It also to explain what is the correct method how to construct and to select the suitable material. 2 PREPARE MORTAR

2.1 Identify types of mortar

2.1.1 Select the types of mortar required according to proportions

2.2 Identify materials for mortar

2.2.1 List out the materials for mortar according to work specification.2.2.2 Select the materials for mortar as required by drawing plan according to Job specification. 2.2.3 Describe the usage of the selected materials in accordance with manufacturer's instruction and specification

2.3 Confirm place for mixing

2.3.1 Select suitable place and proper method for mixing

2.4 Compose the required proportion

2.4.1 Measure the required proportion by weight and volume according to job specification

2.5 Compose mortar according to mixing ratio

2.5.1 Carry out mixing mortar by using hand and machine according to job specification

3 CONSTRUCT STRETCHER,

ENGLISH AND FLEMISH BOND WALL IN

VARIOUS FORMS WITH POINTING AND JOINTING

3.1 Identify types of bonds

3.1.1 List out types of bonds according to work specification.3.1.2 Select the proper types of bonds required

according to job specification

3.2 Prepare required materials

3.2.1 Select the materials for brick wall as required by drawing plan according to Job specification. 3.2.2 Mix required mortar by proper procedures in accordance with manufacturer's instruction and the "Product Manual

3.3 Lay bricks in dry bonding3.3.1 Carry out dry bonding for brick wall by proper method according to job specification.

3.4 Mark the position of bricks with joint 3.4.1 Carry out marking position of bricks with joint as required according to job specification

3.5 Cut bricks where it is necessary

3.5.1 perform cutting bricks using proper tools and

equipment according standard procedure

.

3.6 Lay the first course of brick bonding and it consecutive layers up to the required height

3.6.1 Perform spreading , buttering and grouting of

mortar on bricks by proper technique and tools according to job specification

3.6.2 Carry out laying the first course of brick bonding and it consecutive layers up to the required height according to standard operational procedure

3.7 Measure level , plumb , gauge ,square and range

3.7.1 Carry out checking level , plumb gauge ,

square and range by using proper equipment

according to standard operational procedure

3.8 Maintain perpendicular joints and its

thickness

3.8.1 Carry out maintaining perpendicular joints and its thickness according to standard operational procedure

3.9 Identify types of pointing and jointing3.9.1 List out types of pointing and jointing according to work specification.3.9.2 Select pointing and jointing according to blue print / drawing plan

5. CONSTRUCT ROUGH

AND AXE ARCHES

5.1 Recognize Rough and axe arches5.1.1 Define arches and their functions according to manual specification .5.1.2 Describe types af arches and terms according to manual specification .5.1.3 Define Rough and axe according to standard requirement.

5.2 Specify the position of an arch

5.2.1 Mark the position of an arch by proper method

using approprite tools and equipment according to

job specification

5.3 Erect centering

5.3.1 Define centering and its functions according to manual specification .5.3.2 Fabricate the centering by proper material, method and tools according to job specification5.3.3 Erect temporary support for centering according to standard procedure.5.3.4 Place the centering into position by using wedges as required by drawing plan.

5.4 Set up wall with opening up to

springing level

5.4.1 Carry out wall construction with opening up to springing level according to job specification

5.4 Set up skew back where required

5.4.1 Erect skew back where required by proper method according to job specification

5.5 Perform voussiors sizing

5.5.1 Determine size of voussiors according

the drawing.

5.5.2 Cut voussiors to required size by proper

tools and equipment according to job specification

5.6 Set out the position of voussiors on centering

5.6.1 Carry out marking position of voussiors on centering according to standard procedure.

5.7 Lay voussiors in position using V shape joint with correct thickness

5.7.1 Carry out laying voussiors using V shape joint as required by drawing plan.

5.8 Maintain good finishing and cleanliness5.8.1 Acquire good finishing and cleanliness of the brick arches according to standard operational procedure

6 DISMANTLE FORMWORK

6.1 Strip off bracing, strut and props to formwork

6.1.1 Carry out stripping off bracing, strut and props to formwork by using proper tools and equipment by referring to working schedule in sequence

6.2 Strip off formwork to any constructed structure

6.2.1 Carry out stripping off formwork to any constructed structure by referring to working schedule in sequence

6.3 Clean and stack for proper storage

6.3.1 Carry out cleaning and stacking for proper storage according to manufacture instruction

6.4 Clean working area from debris

6.4.1 Carry out cleaning working area from debris according to standard requirement.

ISOLATED PIERS

7.1 Recognize Isolated Pier7.1.1 Define Isolated Pier according to manual specification

7.2 Specify the position of Isolated Pier

7.2.1 Mark the position of an arch by proper method using approprite tools and equipment according to job specification

7.3 Lay bricks in dry bonding

7.3.1 Carry out dry bonding for Isolated Pier by proper method according to job specification.

7.4 Lay the first course of Isolated Pier and it consecutive layers up to the required height

7.4.1 Carry out spreading , buttering and grouting of

mortar on bricks by proper technique and tools according to job specification.

7.4.2 Carry out laying the first course of Isolated Pier and it consecutive layers up to the required height in required bond according to the standard operational procedure

7.5 Lay the consecutive courses up the

required height

7.5.1 Carry out laying the consecutive courses up the required height by using proper tools in required bond according to the standard operational procedure .


7.6.1 Carry out checking level , plumb gauge , square and range by using proper equipment according to standard operational procedure

7.7 Maintain good finishing and cleanliness

8.1 Recognise attached Pier8.1.1 Define attached Pier according to manual specification

8.2 Specify the position of attached Pier

8.2.1 Mark the position of an arch by proper method using approprite tools and equipment according to job specification


8.3.1 Carry out dry bonding for attached Pier by proper method according to job specification.

8.4 Lay the first course of Isolated Pier and it consecutive layers up to the required height

8.4.1 Carry out spreading , buttering and grouting of

mortar on bricks by proper technique and tools according to job specification.

8.4.2 Carry out laying the first course of Isolated Pier and it consecutive layers up to the required height in required bond according to the standard operational procedure

8.5 Lay the consecutive courses up the

required height

8.5.1 Carry out laying the consecutive courses up the required height by using proper tools in required bond according to the standard operational procedure .



8.7 Maintain good finishing and cleanliness

9. ERECT COPING AND CAPPING ON BRICKWORK9.1 Recognise coping and capping
