- SCOUTING THE FIELDLINCOLNLincoln University is led by first year head coach Chad Kerr who was named the skipper back on July 14th. Kerr spent the previous season at Alderson Broaddus as he led the Battlers to the GMAC Tournament, Kerr played collegiate baseball at Truman State. The Blue Tigers are a member of the MIAA and based out of Jefferson City, Missouri.

The Blue Tigers are 0-5 overall this seson with losses to Delta State, Southern Arkansas, Cameron, Texas Woman’s and Newman during the SAU Invite back on Feb. 5-7 in Magnolia, Arkansas. Lincoln is led offensively by Macie Kinsey who is hitting .300 with a double and one RBI while Megan Heimbaugh and Laren Stamp have driven in two runs each to lead the team. In the circle, the Blue Tigers are led by Stamp who is 0-0 with a 0.00 ERA in her 3.2 innings of work with two strikeouts.

WESTERN OREGONWestern Oregon is led by fourth year head coach Lonny Sargent. In his 22 years in the coaching ranks, Sargent has compiled a collegiate career coaching record of 288-242. Sargent led the Wolves to the West Regional Tournament in 2014 and a GNAC Tournament appearance last season.

The Wolves enter the weekend with an overall record of 3-6 following a 2-3 showing at the Dixie State Tournament last weekend as they topped Western New Mexico and Cal Baptist while falling to Hawaii Hilo and #2 Dixie State (twice). WOU is led at the plate by Zoe Clark

who is hitting .429 with two doubles and a homerun to drive in five RBI while Stephanie Morgan paces the Wolves in the circle with an overall mark of 1-1 with a 2.53 ERA with five strikeouts in her 10.2 innings of work so far this season.

NEWMANThe Jets are led by first year head coach Janice Esses who came to Wichita following a 14 year stint at Bethany College. Esses led the Swedes from 2002 to 2015, totaling an overall record of 364-298 with nine seasons of 25 or more wins.

Newman enters the weekend with an overall record of 2-4 following the Southern Arkansas Classic back on Feb. 5-7 in Magnolia as the Jets topped Cameron and Lincoln while falling to Texas Woman’s, Delta State, Southern Arkansas and Southwest Baptist. Newman is led at the plate by Bayley Horsch who is hitting .333 to drive in two runs while Kate Smith is 0-3 in the circle with a 2.37 ERA with nine strikeouts in her 19 innings of work so far this season.

LSC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEKWest Texas A&M freshman outfielder Brittany Cruz was named the Lone Star Conference Softball Offensive Player of the Week announced on Tuesday morning by the league’s offices in Richardson, Texas.

Cruz had a monster weekend for the #22 Lady Buffs during the WT Invitational at Schaeffer Park in Canyon as WT moved to 10-0 on the season with wins over Fort Lewis, Chadron State, No. 12 St. Mary’s, Metro State and Adams State. The freshman outfielder hit .643 with nine hits in her 14 at-bats while scoring seven runs as she tallied three doubles, one triple and one homer to drive in a team leading 10 RBI for a slugging percentage of 1.214 while walking two times for an on-base clip of .647. Cruz also had a great weekend in right field as she registered a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with two putouts and one assist.

TRADITION NEVER GRADUATESThe Lady Buffs return nine letter-winners from last season’s LSC Championship team that registered an overall record of 45-11, All-American selec-tions Lacey Taylor, Stacey Ramirez and Allie Smith highlight the talented returning group that have led WT to back-to-back LSC Titles. Taylor and Ramirez are joined by Brittany Gehle, Tori Bayer and Andrea Sitter for a senior class that looks to become the winningest in program history as they have reg-istered a 149-31 (82.8%) mark over the last three seasons in Canyon.

HOME SWEET HOMEThe Lady Buffs have turned Schaeffer Park in Canyon into one of the top home environments in all of NCAA Division II Softball. WT is 146-26 (.849) at Schaeffer Park since the facility opened prior to the 2011 season including 55-12 (.821) during regular season Lone Star Conference games in Canyon. 2015 marked the fourth time in the last five years (‘11, ‘13, ‘14, ‘15) that the Lady Buffs hosted NCAA Postseason action in Canyon.

LSC PRESEASON OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEARWT senior catcher and returning 1st Team All-Amer-ican Lacey Taylor was named the LSC Preseason Player of the Year on Jan. 27th. Taylor was a 1st Team All-American while finishing in the Top-10 for the Schutt

Sports NFCA DII National Player of the Year Award. She registered a .458 batting average with 11 doubles, two triples and 12 homeruns to drive in 63 RBI for a slugging percentage of .813 while tallying 40 walks for an on-base clip of .584. The Byers native registered 271 putouts with 22 assists and just two errors for a fielding percentage of .993.

2015 IN-REVIEWThe Lady Buffs continued their dominance in 2015 as Kevin Blaskowski led the program to their second straight and third overall Lone Star Conference Championship as they finished the season 45-11 with a 22-6 mark in LSC play. WT made national news during the 2015 season, remaining the top team in the National Fastpitch Coaches Associ-ation (NFCA) Division II Top-25 Poll for a record 56-straight weeks (2/26/14 - 3/25/15). WT led the nation in four offensive statistical categories during the 2015 season while also hitting 102 homeruns to become the first team in Division II history to reach the century mark in back-to-back years.

2016 LSC LEADERS



Having been hired to re-start West Texas A&M softball following a 24-year absence, Kevin Blaskowski has wasted little time in building the Lady Buffs into a

perennial national title contender. In 10 years at the helm, he has registered a 365-230 mark, recorded five NCAA tournament berths and an overall record of 717-507 over 23 seasons. While at WT, Blaskowski has claimed three Lone Star Conference title, two LSC Tournament Title, two South Central Regional Cham-pionships, a South Central Super Regional Title and the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championship. The Lady Buffs continued their dominance in 2015 as Blaskowski led the program to their second straight and third overall Lone Star Conference Championship as they finished the season 45-11 with a 22-6 mark in LSC play. WT made national news during the 2015 season, remaining the top team in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Top-25 Poll for a record 56-straight weeks (2/26/14 - 3/25/15). WT led the nation in four offensive statustical categories during the 2015 season while also hitting 102 homeruns to become the first team in Division II history to reach the century mark in back-to-back years after hitting 105 bombs in 2014. Senior outfielder Renee Erwin concluded her incredible collegiate career in style as the Anna, Texas native became the first player in history to be named a back-to-back winner of the Daktronics Ron Lenz National Player of the Year award. 2014 saw the Lady Buffs capture the program’s first ever NCAA Division II National Championship as WT topped perennial power Valdosta State in a Memorial Day thriller at the Moyers Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia. The Lady Buffs finished their dream season with an overall record of 60-7, becoming just the fourth team in NCAA history to win a title while also reaching the 60-win mark (Cal State Northridge-1985; Augustana-1991; North Dakota State-2000). Blaskowski and his staff were rewarded for their efforts on the diamond, being named the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II National Coaching Staff of the Year while Coach B also picked up Lone Star Confer-ence Coach of the Year accolades. Coach B reached another career milestone in 2013 as he claimed his 600th career victory against St. Edward’s in Austin, Texas on April 14th. The 2012 season saw the Lady Buffs make another appearance in the LSC Tournament before falling to rival Angelo State in the semifinal round, WT just missed out on the NCAA Postseason, finishing the season with an overall record of 35-18. Blaskowski reached a personal milestone on February 19, 2012 as he coached his 1,000th career game in a win over New Mexico Highlands in Canyon. The 2011 season saw the Lady Buffs make a historic run to their first ever South Central Regional Championship as they finished the season with an overall record of 50-18. WT claimed the program’s first ever Lone Star Confer-ence Tournament Championship in 2011. Blaskowski also reached a personal milestone in 2011, claiming his 500th career victory on March 5 in a 15-2 win over Eastern New Mexico at Lady Buff Yard in Canyon, the win was also special for WT’s centerfielder Kim LeComte who hit for the first cycle in program history. The Lady Buffs finished the 2010 season with a 45-18 overall record and ad-vanced to the NCAA South Central Region Finals. Blaskowski was honored as the Lone Star Conference South Division Coach of the Year. Blaskowski was hired in December of 2004 to bring back the softball program to WTAMU’s campus after a 24 year absence. Blaskowski came to WT from Lone Star Conference rival Eastern New Mexico University where he served as the head coach for one year. Prior to ENMU, Blaskowski coached at Southern Arkansas University for five years, where he started the SAU softball program and led them to the postseason in each of his five years. In 2003, SAU was the Co-Champion of the West Division in the Gulf South Conference with

a 31-19 overall record and a 19-4 conference mark. While at SAU, Blaskowski served as a member of the NCAA Division II South Region rating committee in addition to being named Gulf South Confer-ence Co-Coach of the Year in 2000. Blaskowski also has served as the head coach at Phillips Univer-sity from 1996-1998. He started the program at Phillips which qualified for postseason play in each of its two seasons before the school closed in 1998. He was also the head coach at Washburn Univer-sity in Topeka, Kan., and Kansas Wesleyan University, in Salina, Kan. Blaskowski received a Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in Physical Education from Valley City State University in North Dakota in 1986. He completed a Master of Science in Education with an emphasis in Health, Physi-cal Education and Recreation at Emporia State University in Kansas in 1989. Blaskowski and his beautiful wife, April, are the parents of two daughters, Kaelyn Rose and Kelsey Rhea.
